Automatic Collecting Representative Logo Images from the Internet

With the explosive growth of commercial Iogos, high quality logo images are needed for training logo detection or recognition systems, especially for famous Iogos or new commercial brands. This paper focuses on automatic collecting representative logo images from the internet without any human labeling or seed images. We propose multiple dictionary invariant sparse coding to solve this problem. This work can automatically provide prototypes, representative images, or weak labeled training images for logo detection, logo recognition, trademark infringement detection, brand protection, and ad-targeting. The experiment results show that our method increases the mean average precision for 25 types of Iogos to 80.07% whereas the original search engine results only have 32% representative logo images. The top images collected by our method are accurate and reliable enough for practical applications in the future.

This paper presents a new impedance-based fault distance calculation formulation for power distribution systems. The majority of low- or medium- voltage distribution systems are characterized by having numerous branches, laterals and sub-laterals, highly unbalanced operation, and time varying load profile. All of these and other characteristics make most efficient approaches proposed for fault location in power distribution systems not applicable to distribution systems. The proposed method uses only measurements of voltage and current at the beginning of the analyzed feeder, and additional equipments such as, fault locators and monitoring devices are not needed to be installed in the distribution system. The apparent impedance is calculated by using the fundamental rms values of the measured voltage and current in this paper. This method is suitable to any kinds of fault and can be used to unbalanced power distribution systems, since it is derived in phase domain.

Limiting short circuit current and increasing power system stability is a contradiction. An optimization and decision model for limiting short circuit current considering sensitivity ranking is established. Firstly, the influence on impedance matrix caused by current limiting measures is analyzed, and a variable selection strategy considering the sensitivity relation between current limiting measures and node self-impedance is proposed. Secondly, the objective functions which minimize the total investment costs and the short circuit capacity margin are presented, and an adaptive hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to find a scheme set. Finally, a comprehensive evaluation model is established based analytic hierarchy process and the systematic and quantitative assessments are realized by the fuzzy algorithm. Simulation results of the practical power grid demonstrated the efficiency and speediness of this proposed model.

Controllable load can actively participate in power balance control, which will have positive impact on power system operation. Lighting load takes a significant proportion in the electricity demand. Many features of Light emitting diodes (LEDs), small size, high luminous efficiency and long lifetime, make them very attractive for use in lighting. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) control strategy is designed for LED luminance control in response to power system frequency. The pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming method is used to realize luminance control of LED. In order to regulate the LED power demand in response to frequency measurement signal, the ANN control strategy adjusts the ratio between the on-time and off-time of the PWM dimming signal of LED. Simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed the ANN control strategy.

With the development of wind power, how to use wind power fully has become an important research. In this paper, wind power accommodation robust model with security constraints considering demand response is built to accommodate wind power as much as possible. The robust model is a two-level optimal model: the upper level is to minimize the curtailed wind power and the lower level is to re-schedule the generator output to minimize the changed power between enterprise and the local grid for guaranteeing the grid safety. In order to solve the two-level model, it is equivalently transformed to single-level model. Finally, simulations are performed and the results show that such proposed approach can accommodate the uncertainty of wind power and electricity load and demand response can help to raise the utilization ratio of the wind power obviously.

In order to achieve the function of measuring friction on contacting surface between wafer and manipulator in real time, in this paper, we mainly measured the resolution and precision of the three dimension force sensor based on piezoresistive conductive ink. Resolution of tangential force improves with preload in normal direction increasing and the maximum resolution is less than 0.025 N with 0.8 N preload. Maximum error is about 30.62% because of low tangential stiffness of elastomer. The experiment results indicate that this sensor has characteristics of small volume, high flexibility and high resolution, which is prospective for using in wafer transfer system with improvement of higher precision in the future.

Temperature is an important factor that limits the current-carrying capability of overhead transmission lines. An online estimation approach is proposed in this study to dynamically track the temperature of transmission lines and thereby fully use their capability. In the proposed approach, the temperature is represented as a function of the transmission loss and current. A Kalman Filter model is set up to track the dynamic change of the temperature. The proposed approach uses only the accessible electrical measurements to form the estimation models and is therefore more practical than other approaches. Test results on a real 110 KV transmission line illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A new active vision based lane markings recognition approach is presented. An efficient method for separating road surface data from a 3D LIDAR data frame is proposed which delimitates the drivable region by its profile. A new approach for extracting significant points of lane markings is developed using digital signal processing technology. And the significant points are clustered based on an orientation guided scheme. The tracking problem of lane markings in sequential frames is investigated. The experimental results show that the presented approach has a global perspective of surrounding road environments and is not sensitive to different natural illuminations. © 2013 IEEE.

A biomimetic controller with online adaptation of impedance and force is applied to a full kinematic and dynamic model of the Baxter bimanual robot. A set of fuzzy logic engines are proposed to infer the values of tuning gains which affect the control performance and control effort of the controller, which would conventionally be set to a static value based on expert knowledge of the controller; the aim of this being to avoid the use of arbitary values to set these values. A simulated experiment is carried out, where the Baxter robot is required to move an object through a trajectory while subjected to two different disturbance forces in four phases. The controller with fuzzy inferred control gains is compared against the same controller with fixed gains to gauge the effectiveness of the new method. Results show that fuzzy inference of control gains impart an improvement in both tracking error and control effort.

Since the consumption of air conditioning devices takes a significant proportion in the electricity demand, implementation of appropriate control strategies will conserve a considerable amount of energy. A proper space thermal model is required for any control strategy, which is built on the accurate identification of unknown parameters. A first-order lumped parameter model is employed to depict space thermal dynamics. The model is discretized using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. We use a particle filter algorithm to identify the model parameters, thermal capacitance and conductance. The recursive algorithm follows the steps including initialization, prediction, update, weight normalization, and resampling. An experiment is conducted to collect indoor and outdoor temperature measurements of a test room. The error is very small between the measured data and prediction results derived by the identified parameters, which verify the effectiveness the identification method proposed in this paper.
