This paper develops a stability region computation method for time delayed power systems based on the value set method. It is designed to accommodate systems with multiple uncertain parameters and time delays. This method serves to analyze the small signal stability margin of power systems and offer guidance for system parameter design. Different from many previous works, this method achieves relatively high efficiency without any conservativeness. First, it processes polynomials with exponentials through polynomial transformations. Second, by continuously subdividing and discriminating the uncertain space, the parameter stability region of the system is obtained. Finally, the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method are validated through simulation examples in MATLAB/Simulink.

The increasing use of modular multilevel converters (MMCs) raises system stability concerns, such as instability in a wide frequency range. Accurate stability analysis of such systems thus is urgently demanded. In this regard, the small signal modeling of the system can be described by a set of linear time- periodic (LTP) differential equations involving time delays, which requires much more effort. A generalization of the ordinary differential equation (ODE)-based harmonic state space (HSS) framework to delayed differential equations (DDEs), HSS-DDE for short, has been proposed to tackle time delays and periodicity within a unified framework. However, the authors found in practical application that this model produces erroneous results when the time delay involved is not an integer multiple of the period. Therefore, this paper first intensively analyzes the limitations of the HSS-DDE model, and then introduces the time-periodic infinitesimal generator and partial discretization idea to reconstruct an improved model that is not affect by the relationship between time delays and period. Thus, the stability of delayed periodic systems can be readily studied. The results of a numerical example and the grid-connected MMC system verify the accuracy and validity of the proposed model.

This paper introduces CM-RETS, a 4-Level address Communication Model designed specifically for real-time simulation of electromagnetic transients in power systems. CM-RETS incorporates a unique 4-Level address scheme and leverages Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology to enable efficient and reliable data exchanges between computing nodes in a distributed system. By effectively distributing computational load, CM-RETS facilitates faster and more realistic simulations, ensuring precise and timely data exchanges within a 5μs time step to capture transients in real time. Experimental results validate the effectiveness and efficiency of CM-RETS in achieving accurate and real-time simulations of electromagnetic transients. With its robust and cost-effective solution, CM-RETS provides researchers and engineers with the means to perform detailed analysis and studies on power systems under various transient conditions.

Nowadays increasing AI techniques, e.g., reinforcement learning, imitation learning, etc., are applied to solve sequential decision-making problems by modeling them as Markov Decision Process (MDP), and achieve superior performance in areas, such as video games, robotics and autonomous driving etc. The reliability of such models is facing severe challenges especially in some safety-critical areas, where failures would bring intolerable disasters. Existing works testing episodic decision-making models are not workable, since they neglect the nature of sequentiality and interactivity in MDP. While other works testing sequential decision-making models are challenged by low testing efficiency because the interaction of MDP is time-consuming. In this paper, we propose an optimized fuzzing framework SeqDivFuzz which infers the sequence diversity during the MDP interaction process to effectively and efficiently test sequential decision-making models in blackbox settings. It adapts the existing fuzzing framework, including Seed Selection, Seed Mutation, Feedback Analysis and integrating a module of Diversity Inference to accelerate the fuzzing procedure. The module learns historical in-process information to check the diversity of test cases when running up to checkPoint in the course of MDP, and early terminating those non-diverse ones. We conduct experimental evaluation with four models involving three simulation environments. The results reflect that SeqDivFuzz exposes 12.3%~49.1% more crashes during a 12-hour testing procedure in four pairs of models and environments compared with the state-of-the-art fuzzing framework. The idea of in-process terminating can potentially boost other techniques for testing sequential decision-making models.

User-side distributed energy storage, as a flexible demand response resource, possesses excellent source-load interaction characteristics and can effectively interact with the power grid. However, currently in China, user-side distributed energy storage resources often face difficulties in directly participating in grid regulation due to factors such as dispersed geographical distribution, small individual installed capacity, and uncertain output time. To address this issue, this paper proposes an optimal economic dispatch strategy for microgrids that considers distributed energy storage aggregation. First, a distributed energy storage aggregator is introduced to manage scattered user-side distributed energy storage resources in a scaled manner, and the scheduling potential of distributed energy storage in each time period is assessed based on consumer psychology theory. Subsequently, a multi-objective optimal dispatch model for microgrids is constructed, which takes into account both economic and environmental aspects. The multi-objective optimization problem is transformed into a single-objective optimization problem using the weighted assignment method, and the CPLEX solver is employed to solve the problem. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method in this paper are verified through a microgrid test system.

Previous studies on the UAV swarm air combat decision-making problem lack consideration of uncertainty, intense confrontation, and high dynamics of aerial combat scenarios. This paper delves into the target allocation decision problem of the UAV attack and defense confrontation in a dynamic aerial combat environment. First, a dynamic game model is proposed to adapt changes in combat resources and adversaries’ behavior throughout multi-stage game processes. Then, the corresponding Nash equilibrium is solved based on a game learning algorithm- the Q-Learning algorithm. Finally, we consider the case where the UAV destructive probability is unknown, an uncertainty model is designed for predicting the UAV destructive probability based on the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In the paper, stability analysis of a class of incommensurate fractional-order systems (IFOS) is studied. These sufficient conditions are based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) and straightforwardly used to solve the feasible solutions with the LMI toolbox. Finally, two examples including a circuit example are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, and the comparison with the previous results shows that the proposed method is less conservative.

Communication stands as a potent mechanism to harmonize the behaviors of multiple agents. However, existing works primarily concentrate on broadcast communication, which not only lacks practicality, but also leads to information redundancy. This surplus, one-fits-all information could adversely impact the communication efficiency. Furthermore, existing works often resort to basic mechanisms to integrate observed and received information, impairing the learning process. To tackle these difficulties, we propose Targeted and Trusted Multi-Agent Communication (T2MAC), a straightforward yet effective method that enables agents to learn selective engagement and evidence-driven integration. With T2MAC, agents have the capability to craft individualized messages, pinpoint ideal communication windows, and engage with reliable partners, thereby refining communication efficiency. Following the reception of messages, the agents integrate information observed and received from different sources at an evidence level. This process enables agents to collectively use evidence garnered from multiple perspectives, fostering trusted and cooperative behaviors. We evaluate our method on a diverse set of cooperative multi-agent tasks, with varying difficulties, involving different scales and ranging from Hallway, MPE to SMAC. The experiments indicate that the proposed model not only surpasses the state-of-the-art methods in terms of cooperative performance and communication efficiency, but also exhibits impressive generalization. For renewable energy producers, the uncertainties of power generation and time-varying electricity prices may lead to economic losses. This paper proposes a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based control model combined energy storage system (ESS) to maximize the income of the wind power producer. It is able to adapt the uncertainties by itself that can avoid the errors caused by modeling the uncertainties. It can also learn and improve the strategy based on feedbacks got by the mechanism of interacting with the environment. Moreover, Rainbow, an improved DRL algorithm, is introduced to formulate the optimal model. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model is verified based on the wind farm located in Jiangsu, China. © 2021 IEEE.

Understanding Individual Agent Importance in Multi-Agent system via Counterfactual Reasoning

Explaining multi-agent systems (MAS) is urgent as these systems become increasingly prevalent in various applications. Previous work has provided explanations for the actions or states of agents, yet falls short in understanding the black-boxed agent's importance within a MAS and the overall team strategy. To bridge this gap, we propose EMAI, a novel agent-level explanation approach that evaluates the individual agent's importance. Inspired by counterfactual reasoning, a larger change in reward caused by the randomized action of agent indicates its higher importance. We model it as a MARL problem to capture interactions across agents. Utilizing counterfactual reasoning, EMAI learns the masking agents to identify important agents. Specifically, we define the optimization function to minimize the reward difference before and after action randomization and introduce sparsity constraints to encourage the exploration of more action randomization of agents during training. The experimental results in seven multi-agent tasks demonstrate that EMAI achieves higher fidelity in explanations than baselines and provides more effective guidance in practical applications concerning understanding policies, launching attacks, and patching policies. © 2024, CC BY.
