A behavior model of planar Silicon Carbide MOSFET considering avalanche breakdown is proposed in this paper. This model is consisted of a traditional MOSFET model and a parallel branch circuit describing avalanche breakdown, which is established based on cell-level physical mechanism. An RC thermal network is used for simulating junction-temperature change during avalanche breakdown fault. For calculating SiC MOSFET’s breakdown voltage, we present an easily implementable and accurate calculation methodology that does not need to use element finite method. The proposed methodology simplifies planar SiC MOSFET’s 2-D structure to 1-D model for electric field intensity calculation and selects a high-temperature impact ionization model that is suitable for 4H-SiC. Proposed behavior model is verified by unclamped inductive switching test in experiments and Simulink simulations. Results of simulations excellently fit experimental measurement and the simulation speed is far faster than element finite method. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The utilization of repurposed second-life batteries from electric vehicles in DC microgrids presents a sustainable and cost-effective solution. However, efficiently integrating these batteries within DC microgrids poses two main challenges: (1) poor consistency among retired battery packs;(2) fluctuations in the DC bus voltage. Traditional approaches primarily focus on achieving the state of charge (SOC) balancing within retired battery packs, often neglecting the suppression of voltage fluctuations, thereby compromising system stability. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a virtual DC machine (VDCM)-based control strategy that enhances both the power quality of the DC microgrid and the consistency of retired battery packs. On the one hand, reconfigurable topology and SOC balancing strategies are developed to manage the equalization current, achieving SOC balancing within the retired battery packs. On the other hand, a VDCM strategy is designed to leverage the capacity characteristics of retired batteries to increase the inertia of the DC microgrid. Compared to conventional methods, experimental results show that the proposed strategy not only maintains SOC balancing during both the charging and discharging phases but also significantly reduces overshoot and settle times of dc voltage to 64.2% and 55.6%, respectively. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Traditional assessment indexes could not fully describe offshore wind resources,for the meteorological properties of offshore are more complex than *** a result,the uncertainty of offshore wind power projects would be increased and final economic benefits would be ***,a study on offshore wind resource assessment is carried out,including three processes of“studying data sources,conducting multidimensional indexes system and proposing an offshore wind resource assessment method based on analytic hierarchy process(AHP).First,measured wind data and two kinds of reanalysis data are used to analyze the characteristics and reliability of data ***,indexes such as effective wind speed occurrence,affluent level occurrence,coefficient of variation,neutral state occurrence have been proposed to depict availability,richness,and stability of offshore wind resources,*** with existing parameters(wind power density,dominant wind direction occurrence,water depth,distance to coast),a multidimensional indexes system has been built and on this basis,an offshore wind energy potential assessment method has been ***,the proposed method is verified by the annual energy production of five offshore wind turbines and practical operating data of four offshore wind farms in *** study also compares the ranking results of the AHP model to two multi-criteria decision making(MCDM)models including weighted aggregated sum product assessment(WASPAS)and multi-attribute ideal real comparative analysis(MAIRCA).Results show the proposed method gains well in practical engineering applications,where the economic score values have been considered based on the offshore reasonable utilization hours of the whole life cycle in China.

Optimized Design of A Haptic Unit for Vibrotactile Amplitude Modulation

Communicating information to users is a crucial aspect of human-machine interaction. Vibrotactile feedback encodes information into spatiotemporal vibrations, enabling users to perceive tactile sensations. It offers advantages such as lightweight, wearability, and high stability, with broad applications in sensory substitution, virtual reality, education, and healthcare. However, existing haptic unit designs lack amplitude modulation capabilities, which limits their applications. This paper proposed an optimized design of the haptic unit from the perspective of vibration amplitude modulation. A modified elastic model was developed to describe the propagation and attenuation mechanisms of vibration in the skin. Based on the model, two types of hierarchical architectural design were proposed. The design incorporated various materials arranged in multiple layers to amplify or attenuate the vibration amplitude as it traveled through the structure. Anti-Overturning Fully Symmetrical Triboelectric Nanogenerator Based on an Elliptic Cylindrical Structure for All-Weather Blue Energy Harvesting

Triboelectric nanogenerators(TENGs) have shown promising potential for large-scale blue energy harvesting. However, the lack of reasonable designs has largely hindered TENG from harvesting energy from both rough and tranquil seas. Herein, a fully symmetrical triboelectric nanogenerator based on an elliptical cylindrical structure(EC-TENG) is proposed for all-weather blue energy harvesting. The novel elliptical cylindrical shell provides a unique selfstability, high sensitivity to wave triggering, and most importantly, an anti-overturning capability for the EC-TENG. Moreover, benefiting from its internal symmetrical design, the EC-TENG can produce energy normally, even if it was overturned under a rude oscillation in the rough seas, which distinguishes this work from previous reported TENGs. The working mechanism and output performance are systematically studied. The as-fabricated EC-TENG is capable of lighting 400 light-emitting diodes and driving small electronics. More than that, an automatic monitoring system powered by the EC-TENG can also monitor the water level in real-time and provide an alarm if necessary. This work presents an innovative and reliable approach toward all-weather wave energy harvesting in actual marine environments.

Improved Model Predictive Control with Prescribed Performance for Aggregated Thermostatically Controlled Loads

Aggregate thermostatically controlled loads(AT-CLs)are a suitable candidate for power imbalance on demand side to smooth the power fluctuation of renewable energy.A new control scheme based on an improved bilinear aggregate model of ATCLs is investigated to suppress power ***,the original bilinear aggregate model of ATCLs is extended by the second-order equivalent thermal parameter model to optimize accumulative error over a long time ***,to ensure the control performance of tracking error,an improved model predictive control algorithm is proposed by integrating the Lyapunov function with the error transformation,and theoretical stability of the proposed control algorithm is ***,the simulation results demonstrate that the accuracy of the improved bilinear aggregate model is enhanced;the proposed control algorithm has faster convergence speed and better tracking accuracy in contrast with the Lyapunov function-based model predictive control without the prescribed performance.

TRISO coated fuel particle has been adopted in the design of various reactors and Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) due to its excellent accident tolerant performance under high temperatures and other severe conditions. Accurately estimating fission product release from TRISO-coated fuel particles is indispensable to calculate the mechanistic source term. In most models, a bare kernel is substituted conservatively for failed particle. Thus, a theoretical method was proposed to describe the transport of fission products in intact and failed fuel particles. In this paper, to analyze the diffusion and release characteristics of intact TRISO-coated fuel particles' fission products, the fission products diffusion model of TRISO-coated fuel particles with thermal-mechanical coupling was established based on the COMSOL Multiphysics software and verified by the IAEA CRP-6 benchmark. The results indicate that the predictions by the developed fission product transport model is reasonable. Moreover, to analyze fission product release for failed partials, a conceptual theoretical method was proposed. The adsorption and desorption constraint model for fission products at the gas-solid interface and the gas phase diffusion model were added to the original model to analyze. Subsequently, predictions comparison for fission products' fractional release in failed particles between the proposed method and the Settings adopted in BISON were completed. The result suggests that the gas-phase diffusion model is feasible and seems favorable to simulate the diffusion of fission products in the failed coating layers. © 2023 by JSME.

Experimental Study on Gas Flow Uniformity in a Diesel Particulate Filter Carrier

A Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF)is a critical device for diesel engine exhaust products *** using active-regeneration purification methods,on the one hand,a spatially irregular gas flow can produce relatively high local temperatures,potentially resulting in damage to the carrier;On the other hand,the internal temperature field can also undergo significant changes contributing to increase this *** study explores the gas flow uniformity in a DPF carrier and the related temperature behavior under drop-to-idle(DTI)condition by means of bench *** is shown that the considered silicon carbide carrier exhibits good flow uniformity,with a temperature deviation of no more than 2%with respect to the same radius measurement point at the outlet during the regeneration *** the DTI test,the temperature is relatively high within r/2 near the outlet end,where the maximum temperature peak occurs,and the maximum radial temperature gradient is located between r/2 and the *** these quantities grow as the soot load increases,thereby making the risk of carrier burnout ***,it is shown that the soot load limit of the silicon carbide DPF can be extended to 11 g/L,which reduces the frequency of active regeneration by approximately 40%compared to a cordierite DPF.
