Deployable space structure technology is an approach used in building spacecraft,especially when realizing deployment and folding *** in orbit,the structures are released from the fairing,deployed,and *** the development of communication,remote-sensing,and navigation satellites,space-deployable structures have become cutting-edge research topics in space science and *** paper summarizes the current research status and development trend of spacedeployable structures in China,including large space mesh antennas,space solar arrays,and deployable structures and mechanisms for deep-space *** technologies of space-deployable structures are addressed from the perspectives of deployable mechanisms,cable-membrane form-finding,dynamic analysis,reliable environmental adaptability analysis,and ***,future technology developments and trends are elucidated in the fields of mesh antennas,solar arrays,deployable mechanisms,and on-orbit adjustment,assembly,and construction.

Methods of configuration test and deformation analysis for large airship

In recent years, high-altitude aerostats have been increasingly developed in the direction of multi-functionality and large size. Due to the large size and the high flexibility, new challenges for large aerostats have appeared in the configuration test and the deformation analysis. The methods of the configuration test and the deformation analysis for large airship have been researched and discussed. A tested method of the configuration,named internal scanning, is established to quickly obtain the spatial information of all surfaces for the large airship by the three-dimensional(3D) laser scanning technology. By using the surface wrap method, the configuration parameters of the large airship are calculated. According to the test data of the configuration, the structural dimensions such as the distances between the characteristic sections are measured. The method of the deformation analysis for the airship contains the algorithm of nonuniform rational B-splines(NURBS) and the finite element(FE)method. The algorithm of NURBS is used to obtain the reconfiguration model of the large airship. The seams are considered and the seam areas are divided. The FE model of the middle part of the large airship is established. The distributions of the stress and the strain for the large airship are obtained by the FE method. The position of the larger deformation for the airship is found.

Solar-driven water evaporation is considered to be a viable and very efficient technology for fresh water ***,the photothermal membrane has a low absorptivity,low photothermal conversion and poor recyclability,which are difficult to meet the demands of self-floating solar driven evaporators in practical ***,a hierarchical nanostructure Ni_(3)S_(2) has been prepared by in-situ growing method on Ni foam(NF),which shows excellent absorptivity,outstanding recyclable and high mechanically durable *** photothermal membrane was composed of hierarchical nanostructure Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF,which exhibited excellent solar absorption(93.13%) in the wavelength range of 250–2500 nm and sustained anti-corrosion capacity for one *** addition,the hierarchical nanostructure Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF has good hydrophilicity and strong binding force,indicating this photothermal membrane exhibits good stability and outstanding photothermal conversion *** evaporation system based on 3D Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF membrane exhibited excellent water evaporation ability,the highest water evaporation rate(1.53 kg m^(-2)h^(-1)) and the photothermal conversion efficiency(84.7%) under 1 sun *** the desalination experiment,the water evaporation rate and photothermal conversion efficiency almost keep constant over 5 cycles tests and do not decrease compared with the experiment in pure *** result demonstrated that the Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF membrane has shown good corrosion resistance and outstanding *** to the simple preparation method,low cost,outstanding recyclability and high mechanical durability in the sea water,this Ni_(3)S_(2)@NF membrane have great potential for long-term solar distillation applications.

Deep space exploration missions and the construction of planetary research stations impose strict demands on energy self-sufficiency systems. Solar energy, due to its abundant availability and sustainability, has become the preferred solution. However, extreme environmental conditions in space – including drastic temperature fluctuations, vacuum environments, high-energy particles, and intense radiation – pose significant challenges to the performance and lifespan of solar energy systems. Concentration technology, which enhances photoelectric and photothermal conversion efficiency by focusing sunlight, is crucial for space missions. This review examines the primary environmental factors affecting the performance of solar concentrators, including solar irradiance, thermal cycling, vacuum-induced outgassing, radiation effects, and impacts from micrometeoroids and orbital debris. The analysis focuses on three types of high-temperature concentrators: Fresnel lenses, Scheffler concentrators, and parabolic dish concentrators. Fresnel lenses are characterized by low cost and simple structure but are susceptible to optical degradation at high temperatures. Scheffler concentrators utilize geometric optimization to improve uniformity of light distribution, while parabolic dish concentrators achieve high optical efficiency, making them suitable for high-energy applications though requiring precise solar tracking. Performance comparisons in the thermal power range of 0 to 25 kW reveal that parabolic dish concentrators excel in high-power scenarios with greater efficiency and smaller aperture sizes. Conversely, Fresnel lenses and Scheffler concentrators are more effective in medium to low-temperature applications. Based on these findings, this review emphasizes the need to select concentrators according to mission requirements and outlines future research directions. Enhancing Ultrasound Scanning Skills in a Leader-Follower Robotic system through Expert Hand Impedance Regulation

Traditional breast cancer surgeries require collaboration between ultrasound (US) doctors and surgeons, making the procedure complex and treating physicians prone to fatigue. In leader-follower robotic surgery, a surgeon controls an US robotic arm and an instrument robotic arm with their left and right hands, enabling independent surgical performance. However, the lack of US scanning skills among surgeons, as well as the physical separation in leader-follower operations, can negatively impact both the scanning and surgical outcomes. This paper proposes a robot-assisted scheme based on dynamic arm impedance compensation (IC) that references expert arm stiffness to compensate for novice arm stiffness. The impedance compensator adjusts the compensation strategy according to the scanning area and scanning stage. The impedance force generator estimates the scanning direction via Kalman filtering and applies stiffness and damping forces in the vertical direction to suppress tremors and other involuntary movements. The experimental results revealed that during the coarse and fine scanning phases, the probe position variance decreased by 57.9% and 73.6%, the contact force variance decreased by 55.2% and 42.5%, and the US image confidence increased by 22.0% and 23.8%, respectively. Compared with traditional filtering compensation (FC) schemes, this approach reduces the average position variance and contact force variance by 32.0% and 25.3%, respectively, and increases confidence by 7.3%. In a no-compensation test, the IC training group outperformed the FC group. This scheme can assist leader-follower US scanning and rapidly improve surgical skills. © 2013 IEEE.

An asymmetric plasma activation strategy was developed for targeted activation towards dissimilar materials. By using the appropriate plasma gases, a balance is achieved between surface functionalization and subsurface regulation to avoid damage formation. Therefore, the defect-free InP/Si and InP/LiNbO3 interfaces were constructed at low annealing temperatures for hybrid integrated quantum systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Transformer-Enhanced Motion Planner: Attention-Guided Sampling for state-Specific Decision Making

Sampling-based motion planning (SBMP) algorithms are renowned for their robust global search capabilities. However, the inherent randomness in their sampling mechanisms often result in inconsistent path quality and limited search efficiency. In response to these challenges, this work proposes a novel deep learning-based motion planning framework, named Transformer-Enhanced Motion Planner (TEMP), which synergizes an Environmental Information Semantic Encoder (EISE) with a Motion Planning Transformer (MPT). EISE converts environmental data into semantic environmental information (SEI), providing MPT with an enriched environmental comprehension. MPT leverages an attention mechanism to dynamically recalibrate its focus on SEI, task objectives, and historical planning data, refining the sampling node generation. To demonstrate the capabilities of TEMP, we train our model using a dataset comprised of planning results produced by the RRT*. EISE and MPT are collaboratively trained, enabling EISE to autonomously learn and extract patterns from environmental data, thereby forming semantic representations that MPT could more effectively interpret and utilize for motion planning. Subsequently, we conducted a systematic evaluation of TEMP's efficacy across diverse task dimensions, which demonstrates that TEMP achieves exceptional performance metrics and a heightened degree of generalizability compared to state-of-the-art SBMPs. "Volume Transfer": A New Design Concept for Fabric-Based Pneumatic Exosuits

The fabric-based pneumatic exosuit is now a hot research topic because it is lighter and softer than traditional exoskeletons. Existing research focused more on the mechanical properties of the exosuit (e.g., torque and speed), but less on its wearability (e.g., appearance and comfort). This work presents a new design concept for fabric-based pneumatic exosuits: "Volume Transfer", which means transferring the volume of pneumatic actuators beyond the garment's profile to the inside. This allows for a concealed appearance and a larger stress area while maintaining adequate torques. In order to verify this concept, we develop a fabric-based pneumatic exosuit for knee extension assistance. Its profile is only 26mm and its stress area wraps around almost half of the leg. We use a mathematical model and simulation to determine the parameters of the exosuit, avoiding multiple iterations of the prototype. Experiment results show that the exosuit can generate a torque of 7.6Nm at a pressure of 90kPa and produce a significant reduction in the electromyography activity of the knee extensor muscles. We believe that "Volume Transfer" could be utilized prevalently in future fabric-based pneumatic exosuit designs to achieve a significant improvement in wearability. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
