Deep learning models are widely used in security-sensitive tasks such as facial recognition and autonomous driving. security issues in deep models could have serious implications for people’s lives, such as life-threatening situations resulting from autonomous driving failures. To enhance the security of deep models, security testing is necessary before their formal deployment. Since different scenarios may involve different deep models, a security testing method that targets multiple scenarios would be more universally applicable. In this paper, we propose a security testing method for deep models that can be applied across multiple scenarios, primarily utilizing adversarial attacks to test the models. For the deep model under test, we first construct threat scenarios and then associate the model with datasets and adversarial attack methods. Subsequently, we generate adversarial examples to input into the deep model to check its accuracy in classification. Finally, we evaluate the success rate of adversarial attacks on the deep model. A high attack success rate indicates low model security, necessitating developers to employ adversarial training or other methods to enhance model security. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Metal-Frame Slot Antenna with a Small Ground Clearance for the Wi-Fi 6E Operation in Laptop Applications

In this communication, a metal-frame slot antenna with a very small ground clearance for laptop is proposed. Regarding the antenna structure, it is an asymmetrical modified inverted T-shaped slot (AMITS) structure, which includes a long step slot arm, a short slot arm and a loop slit. The AMITS antenna is integrated with the metal casing connected with an inverted L-shaped strip, covering the 2.4/5/6 GHz frequency bands with four resonant modes excited. The antenna is analyzed and a prototype is fabricated and measured. The proposed AMITS antenna features a very-small ground clearance measuring merely 1.2 mm, covering a-10 dB impedance bandwidth of 160 MHz (2.33-2.49 GHz) and 2.4 GHz (4.92-7.32 GHz) with a peak efficiency of 70%. The low-profile, simple-structure AMITS antenna shows prospect for the narrow-bezel laptop in Wi-Fi 6E applications. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

FPGA Real-Time Deployment of Low-Complexity Volterra Equalizer Based on Pruning and Non-Uniform Quantization

Electronic nonlinear equalization technology is a promising signal impairments compensation technique with great development potential and wide application scenarios. However, its high complexity makes it challenging to implement in field-programmable gate array (FPGA). We propose a low-complexity real-time nonlinear equalization scheme based on FPGA, which can provide similar performance as traditional schemes but only occupies very low digital signal processing (DSP) resources. With the help of this scheme, by using pruning and non-uniform quantization, the computational complexity of a Volterra equalizer with 15 linear taps and 25 nonlinear taps is comparable to that of a Volterra equalizer with 8 linear taps and 4 nonlinear taps. By non-uniformly quantizing the taps of the equalizer, the quantization accuracy can be saved compared to uniform quantization, and after the taps are quantized, complex multiplication can be replaced by simple shift operations, simplifying the complexity of multiplication operations. The scheme of weight pruning and non-uniform quantization significantly reduces the required hardware resources and power consumption. We verify the proposed scheme in a decision-directed Volterra (DD-Volterra) equalizer, The equalizer was successfully deployed in a 230.4 MHz xcvu9pflgb2104-2-I Xilinx FPGA and achieved real-time IM/DD transmission of 29.4912 Gbit/s PAM4 signals over 25 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF), meeting the 3.8 × 10-3 hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) standard. The results show that the proposed low-complexity Volterra equalizer scheme can reduce DSP resources by up to 75.3% and power consumption by 26.2%. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Federated learning combines with fog computing to transform data sharing into model sharing, which solves the issues of data isolation and privacy disclosure in fog computing. However, existing studies focus on centralized single-layer aggregation federated learning architecture, which lack the consideration of cross-domain and asynchronous robustness of federated learning, and rarely integrate verification mechanisms from the perspective of incentives. To address the above challenges, we propose a Blockchain and Signcryption enabled Asynchronous Federated Learning (BSAFL) framework based on dual aggregation for cross-domain scenarios. In particular, we first design two types of signcryption schemes to secure the interaction and access control of collaborative learning between domains. Second, we construct a differential privacy approach that adaptively adjusts privacy budgets to ensure data privacy and local models' availability of intra-domain user. Furthermore, we propose an asynchronous aggregation solution that incorporates consensus verification and elastic participation using blockchain. Finally, security analysis demonstrates the security and privacy effectiveness of BSAFL, and the evaluation on real datasets further validates the high model accuracy and performance of BSAFL. © 2024 Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications

Smart eyeglasses are emerging as a new medium for human-computer interaction. Existing solutions typically rely on cameras or touchpads, raising privacy invasion concerns or requiring users to physically interact with the glass frames. Here, we present, a novel mid-air gesture interaction system for eyeglasses, based on radio frequency identification (RFID). The design of our system involves embedding a conformal RFID tag into the eyeglass frame, where the received signals change with user gestures. We optimize the radiation gain of the tag to avoid view blockage while preserving a long working range. To discriminate different gestures, we propose an adaptively weighted multi-channel fusion network to extract their respective distinctive features. To allow efficient adaptation of the pre-trained network to new users, we also introduce a novel diagonal dot-product attention in our contrastive learning framework to uncover the feature similarities of different users. The proposed system was evaluated through extensive experiments, demonstrating an average recognition accuracy of 98.86% across twenty users and a cross-user accuracy of 98.75%. © 2014 IEEE.

Impacts of Land–Atmosphere Coupling on Summer Extreme Hot-Humid Compound Events over Southern Eurasia under Different Sea Surface Temperature Backgrounds

Land–atmosphere coupling and sea surface temperature(SST)anomalies both have essential impacts on weather and climate *** on the ERA5 reanalysis dataset and the CESM1.2.2 model,this study investigates the influence of land–atmosphere coupling on summer extreme hot-humid events(EHHE)over southern Eurasia under different SST *** results suggest that coupling causes near-surface air temperature increases that exceed 0.5℃.From 1961 to 2020,the frequency of EHHE has continuously increased,and is closely related to soil moisture anomalies in the northern Indian Peninsula(IDP)and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River(YRB).Numerical simulations further demonstrate that land–atmosphere coupling raises the risk of EHHE by 25.4%.In a typical El Niño SST background state,intensified land–atmosphere coupling tends to produce notable increases in the frequency of *** dominant processes that land–atmosphere coupling affects the EHHE variations are evidently different between these two *** surface thermal anomalies predominate in the IDP,while moisture conditions are more critical in the *** warm SST anomalies exist,dry soil anomalies in the IDP are prominent,and evaporation is constrained,increasing sensible heat *** geopotential height anomalies are significant,combined with adiabatic warming induced by descending motion and a noticeable warm center in the near-surface *** southward shift of the westerly jet enhances divergence over *** anticyclonic circulation anomalies over the western Pacific are conducive to guiding moisture transport to the YRB,providing a favorable circulation background for the development of summer EHHE.

Enhanced influence of the North Atlantic Oscillation on winter snowfall in northern China since 2000

Because of the profound impacts of snowfall in northern China on the economy society and human lives,it is essential to understand the physical mechanisms behind the variability of snowfall in this *** on the observational and reanalysis data during 1961–2018,this study examines the relationship of winter snowfall over northern China with the North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO).The results show that their relationship experiences an interdecadal change around *** 2000–2018,the NAO is significantly and negatively correlated to winter snowfall in northern *** the NAO is in the negative phase,the East Asian subtropical jet and polar front jet tend to move northward and southward,respectively,concomitant with an anomalous cyclonic circulation from Lake Balkhash to Lake Baikal in the middle and lower *** an atmospheric background favors the increase of snowfall over northern China by empowering the interactions of cold air with moist airflows in the target ***,during 1981–1999,the association of the NAO with the above atmospheric circulations seems inconspicuous,thereby reducing its relation to winter snowfall in northern *** investigation suggests that the enhancement of the connection between the NAO and aforementioned atmospheric circulations may result from the westward displacement of the NAO southern center from the former period to the latter period.

Interdecadal Change of Relationship between North Atlantic Oscillation and Tropical Cyclone Genesis Frequency over the Western North Pacific

This article investigates the relationship between spring (March–May) North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the tropical cyclone genesis frequency (TCGF) over the western North Pacific (WNP) from June to November. It is found that their relationship appears insignificant from 1950 to 1971, intensifies significantly from 1972 to 2010, and then weakens again since 2011. The interdecadal change of this relationship is strongly influenced by the meridional displacement of the North Atlantic jet stream (NAJS). During 1972–2010, the NAJS is located southward, facilitating the spread of Rossby wave energy to the equatorial region and enhancing the NAO impact on sea surface temperatures (SSTs) over the tropical North Atlantic (TNA). Generally, positive (negative) phases of the NAO relate to negative (positive) TNA SST anomalies in spring, subsequently triggering positive (negative) SST anomalies in the central Pacific through the wind–evaporation–SST feedback. The central Pacific SST anomalies, intensifying from summer to autumn, lead to a basin-uniform circulation anomaly over the WNP and ultimately control the WNP TCGF. Conversely, in the other two periods, owing to the northward shift of the NAJS, the influence of the NAO is constrained to the extratropics, thereby disrupting the linkage between the NAO and TNA SST anomalies. As a result, the interannual relationship of spring NAO with the WNP TCGF weakens. The decadal meridional shift of the NAJS is supposed to be associated with the phase transition of the Pacific decadal oscillation. © 2025 American Meteorological Society.
