Deniable Identity-Based Matchmaking Encryption for Anonymous Messaging

Anonymous messaging system allows users to deliver messages without revealing the sending content and their identifiers, which has attracted ongoing concerns. However, to the best of our knowledge, all the existing solutions still fail to protect users' privacy under coercion. That is, the user's communication transcripts might be tracked and cached, and later coerced to reveal the underlying messages associated with the ciphertexts due to law enforcement reasons or for evil purposes. In addition, anonymity alone is not enough for some practical scenarios. For instance, a journalist just wants to communicate with those intended informants, and thereby gather information from anonymous but authenticated sources. In this paper, to address the above-mentioned issues, we introduce an authenticated and deniable anonymous messaging framework. Its core component is a new cryptographic primitive dubbed deniable identity-based matchmaking encryption (DIB-ME), which captures plausible deniability under coercion and mutual authentication without interactions simultaneously. We further present a concrete DIB-ME construction and prove its security in the random oracle model. The performance analysis indicates merits of the proposed DIB-ME scheme. We also implement the proposed DIB-ME construction and present extensive experiment results, as a proof of concept to demonstrate its soundness and practicability. © 2024 IEEE.

Surface-Continuous Scene Representation for Light Field Depth Estimation via Planarity Prior

Light field (LF) imaging captures both spatial and angular information of the real world, enabling precise depth estimation. However, images are merely discrete expressions of scenes. Limited by imaging technology, LF camera cannot capture the infinite rays emitted by scenes, leading to the discrete information storage (e.g. pixel). Consequently, previous deep learning methods have encountered challenges in accurately extracting depth information from LF images. In this paper, we investigate a surface-continuous scene representation using planarity prior and design PlaneNet, a Plane-based Network that successfully generates highly detailed depth maps for real scenes. Specifically, inspired by the plane assumption that real-world scenes generally yield piecewise smooth surfaces, we refine it to the pixel level for continuous surface approximation, which can overcome the limitations of discrete representation. Rather than explicitly parameterizing planes as multiple coefficients, we propose a novel plane regular sampling operator (PRSO), enabling the network to fit smooth depth surfaces easily. To explore the role of our theory at the feature level, we also introduce PRSO into the intermediate layers of PlaneNet. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on both synthetic and real-world LF scenes, ranking 1st (MSE) on the HCI 4D Light Field benchmark. Furthermore, we explore the utilization of our representation in multiple LF depth estimation networks, and experiments demonstrate improved performance when surface-continuous representation is applied. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Progressive Semantic-Visual Alignment and Refinement for Vision-Language Tracking

In recent years, vision-language tracking has drawn emerging attention in the tracking field. The critical challenge for the task is to fuse semantic representations of language information and visual representations of vision information. For this purpose, several vision-language tracking methods perform early or late fusion to fuse visual and semantic features. However, these methods cannot take full advantage of the transformer architecture to excavate useful cross-modal context at various levels. To this end, we propose a new progressive joint vision-language transformer (PJVLT) to progressively align and refine visual embedding with semantic embedding for vision-language tracking. Specifically, to align visual signals with semantic signals, we propose to insert a semantic-aware instance encoder layer (SAIEL) into each intermediate layer of transformer encoder to perform progressive alignment of visual and semantic features. Furthermore, to highlight the multi-modal feature channels and patches corresponding to target objects, we propose a unified channel communication patch interaction layer (CCPIL), which is plugged into each intermediate layer of transformer encoder to progressively activate target-aware channels and patches of aligned multi-modal features for fine-grained tracking. In general, by progressively aligning and refining visual features with semantic features in the transformer encoder, our PJVLT can adaptively excavate well-aligned vision-language context at coarse-to-fine levels, therefore highlighting target objects at various levels for more discriminative tracking. Experiments on several tracking datasets show that the proposed PJVLT can achieve favorable performance in comparison with both conventional trackers and other vision-language trackers. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Network Intrusion Detection for Modern Smart Grids Based on Adaptive Online Incremental Learning

New and evolving cyber attacks against smart grids are emerging. This necessitates that the network intrusion detection systems (IDSs) have online learning ability. However, most existing methods struggle to handle new and evolving attacks while retaining old attack knowledge, and many of them employ deep models requiring long update periods. Therefore, we propose an IDS based on adaptive online incremental learning (AdaOIL-IDS). 1) A class-correlated broad learning system (CC-BLS) is proposed for intrusion detection. A weighted CC-factor derived from intra- and inter-class correlations is introduced in CC-BLS to improve classification accuracy. CC incremental learnings are designed to quickly add new inputs and additional nodes without retraining. The CC-factor for new inputs is adjusted based on correlations of new and old classes, which enables simultaneous adaptation to new attacks and new observations of old attacks while retaining more old knowledge. 2) An adaptive learning framework is proposed for online offline combined learning of models. Online learning and offline retraining are adaptive switched based on the real-time loss to achieve efficient lifelong learning. Experiment results show that CC-BLS has better performance than selected state-of-the-art incremental broad and deep models, and the proposed adaptive learning framework behaviors better effectiveness and efficiency than selected existing frameworks. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

With the proliferation of data-intensive industrial applications, the collaboration of computing powers among standalone edge servers is vital to provision such services for smart devices. In this paper, we propose an edge-driven industrial computing power network (CPN) by orchestrating the computing and network resources of edge servers through the centralized resource scheduling and decentralized task computing. However, efficient task offloading and collaborative processing is challenging, which requires higher degrees of network automation and intelligence. Therefore, we incorporate digital twins (DTs) into the edge-driven CPN architecture, where the DTs are created as the digital replicas to assist both the computation offloading and collaborative processing. A joint optimization problem of the computing power assignment, service association, task partition, and transmit power control is formulated for maximizing the system average weighted utility. Due to the temporal-spatial variability of tasks and the resulted dynamic environment, we transform the original problem as a Markov decision process aiming at maximizing the long-term average weighted utility. To efficiently handle the high-dimensional discrete-continuous action space, a hybrid soft actor-critic based deep reinforcement learning algorithm is developed for optimizing the joint design. Simulation results validate the superiority of our proposed algorithm over the benchmarks, showing the significant gains obtained by integrating DTs into the edge-driven CPN. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Fratricide! Hijacking in Android Multi-Window

Android’s multi-window solutions allow several apps to coexist on one screen, providing powerful functionalities and appealing visuals for modern mobile devices. However, this opens the door for potential malware hijacking attacks. In our study, we unveiled Android’s insufficient security measures against malware activity in multi-window modes, and identified strategies on how to bypass these measures. We first introduced long-term monitoring methods through background services or malicious sub-window activities, and then designed and implemented 7 multi-window hijacking strategies to achieve multi-window hijacking in the three mainstream multi-window modes. To evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the attacks, we ran the hijacking in different system versions supporting multi-window solutions, and simulated the hijacking on 262 popular apps. All of the apps suffer from at least two types of multi-window hijacking attacks, and more than 65% of them can be attacked by all the 7 multi-window hijacking attacks. Furthermore, we designed and distributed a questionnaire to gather user opinions towards these attacks. 85% of respondents believe that the multi-window hijacking is highly covert and difficult to defend against. Of significance, we received acknowledgement and award fund from development teams of impactful apps. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

RIS-Assisted ISAC Systems for Robust Secure Transmission With Imperfect Sense Estimation

In this paper, we investigate reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems for robust physical layer security (PLS) schemes. Traditionally, eavesdroppers (Eves) typically avoid interacting with the base station, making it challenging to obtain their relevant information, which limits the implementation of PLS. Fortunately, the sensing information obtained by ISAC can contribute to the design of PLS. Therefore, leveraging imperfect sensing estimation and employing dedicated radar signals as artificial noise, we formulate an RIS-assisted joint active and passive beamforming design problem to maximize the sum secrecy rate while satisfying the user’s quality of service constraints, the transmission power constraints, and the sensing signal strength requirements. To make the problem tractable, we first derive the bound for Eve’s channel state information uncertainty region based on security approximations. Subsequently, we employ the S-procedure and the symbolic-deterministic methods to transform the infinite number of inequalities. We then utilize the first-order Taylor expansion, the second-order cone methods, and the successive convex approximation to address the nonconvexity problem, leading to an efficient suboptimal solution obtained by an iterative algorithm. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the significant potential of the sensing function in enhancing security and the effectiveness of the proposed robust scheme in flexibly balancing communication and sensing quality. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Lithium-rich layered oxides (LLOs) are increasingly recognized as promising cathode materials for nextgeneration high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).However,they suffer from voltage decay and low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) due to severe structural degradation caused by irreversible O ***,we introduce a three-in-one strategy of increasing Ni and Mn content,along with Li/Ni disordering and TM–O covalency regulation to boost cationic and anionic redox activity simultaneously and thus enhance the electrochemical activity of *** target material,Li_(1.2)Ni_(0.168)Mn_(0.558)Co_(0.074)O_(2)(L1),exhibits an improved ICE of 87.2%and specific capacity of 293.2 mA h g^(-1)and minimal voltage decay of less than 0.53 m V cycle-1over 300 cycles at 1C,compared to Li_(1.2)Ni_(0.13)Mn_(0.54)Co_(0.13)O_(2)(Ls)(274.4 mA h g^(-1)for initial capacity,73.8%for ICE and voltage decay of 0.84 mV/cycle over 300 cycles at 1C).Theoretical calculations reveal that the density of states (DOS) area near the Fermi energy level for L1 is larger than that of Ls,indicating higher anionic and cationic redox reactivity than ***,L1 exhibits increased O-vacancy formation energy due to higher Li/Ni disordering of 4.76%(quantified by X-ray diffraction Rietveld refinement) and enhanced TM–O covalency,making lattice O release more difficult and thus improving electrochemical *** increased Li/Ni disordering also leads to more Ni^(2+)presence in the Li layer,which acts as a pillar during Li+de-embedding,improving structural *** research not only presents a viable approach to designing low-Co LLOs with enhanced capacity and ICE but also contributes significantly to the fundamental understanding of structural regulation in high-performance LIB cathodes.

Recently, graph neural networks(GNNs) have played a key crucial in many recommendation situations. In particular, contrastive learning-based hypergraph neural networks (HGNNs) are gradually becoming a research focus for addressing issues of data sparsity and noise. Despite many studies proving their outstanding performance, there are still some shortcomings: i) Most contrastive learning-based HGNNs primarily rely on cross-view contrastive learning, while neglecting contrastive learning on the interaction graph. ii) Utilizing node embedding for hypergraph structure learning is susceptible to the influence of low-quality representations, thereby constraining the learning capability of HGNNs. To address these issues, we offer a Semantic Similarity-based Graph Contrastive Learning framework (SSGCL), which aims to jointly learn representations with rich semantic information through within-view and cross-view contrastive learning. Specifically, we first introduce consistency contrastive learning, which captures self-supervised signals through semantic similarity between nodes and their neighborhoods. It better captures the unique features of nodes through the connections between nodes and their neighborhoods. Then, we utilize interaction graph learning hypergraph structure, promoting it to extract potential node connections and thus improving its ability to describe homogeneous node relationships. Experimental evaluations on three actual datasets show that SSGCL performs much better than the current baseline models. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
