The high penetration of renewable energy sources connected to the grid has brought great challenges to the frequency stability of the power system. For the combined wind/pohotovoltaic/storage power station, it is of great significance for better frequency performance to realize the coordination control of active power. Therefore, this paper presents a frequency active support strategy for combined wind/pohotovoltaic/storage power station. By establishing the model of combined wind/pohotovoltaic/storage power station, this strategy applies model predictive control (MPC) to optimize the total active power reference value and the allocation of response power of the combined wind/pohotovoltaic/storage power station. For obtaining better frequency performance, this strategy aims at absorbing wind and solar energy resources and improving the economy of energy storage station. In order to verify the performance of the proposed strategy, it is compared with droop control using MATLAB/Simulink when the load increasing and decreasing respectively. The simulation results clearly show the effectiveness of the active frequency support strategy proposed in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of DC transmission technique is prompting the development of AC/DC hybrid grid. As a new form of the grid, AC/DC hybrid grid faces many challenges one of which is the effect of DC blocking on AC lines. This paper analyses the influence of DC blocking on AC lines. Based on the analysis, a control strategy using wide area information is proposed to avoid the severe overload of AC line after blocking a DC line. The proposed strategy increases the transmission power of normally operating DC line aiming to afford part or all of the transmission task of the blocked DC line. The test result obtained from simulation indicates that the proposed strategy can reduce the overload of AC line after blocking a DC line. © 2020 IET Conference Publications.

With the increasing penetration of new energy, the problem of static voltage stability of power grid has become increasingly prominent, and there is an urgent need for a static voltage stability analysis method to simultaneously evaluate the new energy stations and load buses in a region. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a static voltage stability index based on the voltage stability criterion, which is used to judge the voltage stability of new energy station buses and load buses in the regional network. Firstly, based on the Thevenin equivalence method, the power network with a high proportion of new energy is equivalent to a single machine single load system;Secondly, the analytical static voltage stability index is derived based on the voltage stability criterion;Then the mechanism of this index is compared with L index from the analytical formula, and the reasons for the error of L index in the case of heavy load and large new energy generation are described;Finally, the validity and accuracy of the proposed index in judging the static voltage stability of new energy stations and load buses are verified based on the modified IEEE 3-unit 9-bus example with new energy stations. © 2023 IEEE.

Distance protection is widely applied in High/Ultra- High Voltage AC transmission system. Impedance relay, the core element of distance protection, may operate incorrectly under power swing, so a power swing blocking unit is needed in distance protection. In this paper, the phase difference between the measurement voltage and compensation voltage under power swing and line fault is analyzed. Based on the analysis, a power swing blocking strategy using the change rate of phase difference between measurement voltage and compensation voltage is proposed. Simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC indicate that the proposed strategy can block the impedance relay reliably under power swing and unblock the impedance relay after detecting the fault under power swing. © 2019 IEEE.

In the extrusion process of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables, when the local extrusion temperature is higher than the decomposition temperature of the cross-linking agent, the cross-linking agent will be thermally decomposed in advance, resulting in a low degree of pre-crosslinking of the material. In order to study the effect of pre-crosslinking on the space charge characteristics of XLPE DC cable materials, this paper carried out low-level pre-crosslinking treatment at different temperatures before the high-temperature cross-linking of the material. The aggregate structure of the material was characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and cross-linking degree test, and the space charge characteristics at different temperatures were studied. The experimental results show that pre-crosslinking will reduce the crosslinking degree of XLPE on the one hand, and also lead to the decrease of crystallinity and the reduction of spherulite size. The changes of the aggregate structure make it easier to inject the homopolar charges in pre-crosslinked XLPE samples. Under the high temperature, the residual impurity molecules in the sample will also dissociate, generating a large number of the heteropolar charges, resulting the occurrence of severe electric field distortion. © 2022 IEEE.

In the integrated operation mode of the smart grid dispatching and control system, there is a large amount of real-time data such as important alarms and manual operations that need to be shared between systems. How to synchronize these real-time data across systems with high reliability and performance becomes a problem to be solved. This paper studies the application scenarios of cross-system message synchronization and proposes a scheme based on redundant dual networks, including hardware and software architecture. The key technologies and important functions were implemented, reliability and throughput verifications were performed, and the expected results were achieved. © 2020 IEEE.

The grid-forming control is recognized as an effective method to cope with the power grid stability problems with high renewable power penetration. The application of grid-forming control in modular multilevel converter-based high-voltage direct-current (MMC-HVDC) transmission systems is a promising trend. However, the MMC usually needs to switch between different control modes, such as DC voltage control, active power control, AC voltage control, etc. Conventional grid-forming control structures are hard to meet the above requirements. To solve this problem, a generic grid-forming control structure is proposed in this paper. The stored energy in the submodule capacitors of the MMC is utilized to construct the grid-synchronization mechanism. On this basis, a multi-variable control structure is applied on the DC side, making it easy to switch between different operation modes. Finally, simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC show the effectiveness of the proposed control structure. © 2023 IEEE.

New energy has been vigorously promoted for its advantages such as cleanliness, large reserves and renewability. Recently, power-to-gas (P2G) technology has provided a new idea for energy conversion, which helps to improve energy efficiency. In view of the current high penetration rate of photovoltaics, the impact of three measures with regard to energy conversion, energy storage configuration and demandside response on the economics of the microgrid and the optimal scheduling of the microgrid are explored. Firstly, a microgrid scheduling model with P2G device is built;Secondly, a bi-level planning model for the economic cost of the microgrid scheduling is presented. The upper layer will be based on absolutely accommodation of photovoltaics as the prerequisite to conFigure the optimal energy storage capacity;Then lower layer performs optimized scheduling under the upper model to ensure the economy of the microgrid. Finally, a comparison example is used to analyze the optimal energy storage capacity in different scenarios and an optimized scheduling scheme is given. © 2020 IEEE.

In the case of large-scale power loss fault in the operation of UHV AC-DC hybrid power grid, it is impossible to adjust the grid correction control problem by the unit output adjustment. Fully utilize the adjustable capacity of the load control to achieve safety correction control to meet the load control aid decision-making requirements of existing dispatching system. According to the characteristics of the dispatching system in accordance with the sub-regional load as the target of unified implementation of load control, this paper proposes a safety correction optimized aid decision-making calculation method based on sub-regional load control, with the sub-regional load as the control object and the minimum sub-regional load as the target. Consider the system power flow constraint, the sub-regional controllable load constraint and the key monitoring section safety constraints, the continuous power flow method and the line planning method are combined to solve the problem. The proposed method has the characteristics of simple model, easy solution and good convergence. It shows the effectiveness of the proposed method in the actual power grid. 1

The HVDC transmission schedule for clean energy seldom considers the demand of receiving grid. With the expansion of clean energy scale, it brings great pressure to the receiving grid for safe and stable operation. For this reason, a generation and transmission scheduling model of inter-regional HVDC tie-line system considering conditional section is proposed. A step power adjustment model for the HVDC tie-line operation optimization is developed with consideration given to various constraints on tie-line power, which not only give full play to the characteristics of HVDC tie-line that can be flexibly adjusted, but also avoid the frequent conversion of HVDC converter equipment, making the HVDC tie-line schedule more executable. The joint operation model of cascaded hydropower plants in sending grid is established to meet the operational constraints such as the restricted operating zones of hydropower units, and to ensure the priority of clean hydropower resources and the practicability of the hydropower schedule. The model of conditional control section is established, which can effectively deal with the problem of the coupling between the power limits of section and the number of running units, so as to ensure the safe and stable operation of related sections. Based on the actual data of a cross-regional interconnected power grid, the validity of the model is verified, which can promote the accommodation of clean energy across a wide range of regions, reduce the supply cost of large power system, and alleviate the pressure of safe and stable operation at the receiving system.
