The popularization and promotion of smart home appliances and electric vehicles represents a challenge as well as an opportunity for distribution system operators. On the one hand, these new loads will significantly increase the operating burden of the distribution area;on the other hand, the controllability of these new devices also makes it possible to meet various technical and commercial purposes through flexible solutions such as incentive demand response. Based on the massive operation data collected from electricity meters, low-voltage fault indicators, leakage protection units and other devices in the distribution station area, a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is proposed to manage the operation status of low-voltage circuit in distribution station area. Then the evaluation results are applied to the incentive demand response, which realizes the comprehensive management of three-phase unbalance and under-voltage of low-voltage circuit in distribution station area through reducing load. The simulation results show that the proposed strategy can quantitatively evaluate the operation status of the distribution station area, and improve the load distribution and voltage level of distribution station area significantly through utilizing incentive demand response. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the rapid development of high-speed rail technology in China, the traction transformers of various types have been used more and more extensively. The differential protection of traction transformers has different differential conversion modes [1-2] which are different in their sensitivities. In this paper, taking the YNV traction transformer as an example, by comparing the sensitivities of two different common differential conversion modes and through analysis, it shows that the sensitivities of differential protection are slightly different. The sensitivities of differential protections based on different principles depend on the retention degree of differential current to the positive sequence, negative sequence and zero sequence components in the internal fault current. The sensitivity of phase current minus zero sequence differential is the highest when single-phase grounded, which completely retains all the sequence components in the internal fault current. The sensitivity of interphase differential protection is the highest when interphase fault occurs. The widely used phase current differential and phase current minus zero sequence differential do not reflect the zero-sequence component of internal fault current, which provides the basis for field fault analysis and setting. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The domestic distribution network is mainly non-effectively grounded system, single-phase grounding fault accounts for more than 80% of the total number of faults, the fault characteristics are not obvious and easy to be affected by noise signals, at the same time, the polarity of zero sequence voltage and current transformer is unknown or reverse connection often occurs, which makes the local fault identification and line selection more difficult, and directly affects the fault response speed and disposal efficiency. In this paper, an improved single-phase to ground fault line selection method based on transient energy is proposed. By using the energy matching degree of transient zero mode current in each interval and the polarity relationship between transient zero mode current and steady-state zero sequence current in this interval, the existing fault line selection methods are easy to be affected by the polarity of external mutual inductors, and the polarity of mutual inductors can’t be checked online in the fault process. The physical concept of the method is clear, and the criterion threshold is not affected by the grounding mode and fault location of the system. RTDS simulation experiment and field engineering application verify the effectiveness and universality of the proposed fault line selection method. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the rapid development of ultra-high voltage AC and DC power supply and the increase of large-capacity power bases, China’s power system shows obvious integration characteristics of power balance in the whole power grid, which poses new challenges to the existing model of scheduling plan with provincial balance and weakly coupled dispatching at all levels. For this reason, an integrated optimization model of power generation and transmission planning for the entire power grid is proposed, which is suitable for engineering practice and takes into account the characteristics of multi-energy generation complementation on the generation side, transmission operation characteristics of ultra-high voltage lines and flexible load response characteristics on the demand side. The model of multi-energy complementation of generation side is established, which can reduce the fluctuation of clean energy and increase the accommodation of clean energy. The flexible load response model of the demand side is established, which can coordinate with the power adjustment of the power generation to increase the accommodation space of clean energy. The power model of transmission channel is established to connect the energy base with the load center, which can consider the distribution characteristics of the power grid globally and reduce the overall operation cost of the grid. Based on the actual data of a cross-regional interconnected power grid, the validity of the model is verified. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Achieving the national goal of "carbon peak, carbon neutral" is a complex and challenging task. The carbon emission of the power industry accounts for nearly 40% of the total carbon emission, so the task of reducing emissions is heavy. However, carbon emission reduction in the power industry requires the joint effort of all segments of power generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption. It should be noted that the contribution of scientific assessment of carbon emission reduction in each segment is essential. This paper proposes a framework for assessing the carbon emission reduction additionality of subjects in every link of the power system. The proposed framework identifies the carbon emission reduction additionality of each link of power production, transmission, and consumption by comparing the carbon emission reduction benefits of a given measure with the intervention of the measure. In the evaluation framework, a multi-dispatching scenario evaluation method based on AC optimal power flow (AC OPF) is proposed to evaluate the carbon emission reduction benefits of the power grid under the clean-energy-consumption dispatching and network-loss-minimization dispatching modes. The proposed method examines different transmission power scenarios of a new energy outgoing ultra-high voltage line and analyzes the carbon emission reduction additionality of the power grid. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed method is verified by simulations using a provincial power grid as a case study. © 2021 IEEE

The management of massive security and stability control devices (SSCD) configured for power grids is relatively decentralized, and there is an urgent need for refinement and intensification. Focusing on the purpose of improving the reliability level of SSCD, and referring to the power grid digitization work plan, this paper constructs a digital management and application platform for SSCDs based on 'running on the cloud platform+localization'. First, it introduces the platform positioning and overall framework, and then elaborates the business functions such as device management, version management, test management, evaluation and decision-making. This achieves digital management and reliability test evaluation of mass SSCDs, also improves the reliability level of SSCDs. Finally, illustrates the actual application effect of this platform in a laboratory. © 2023 IEEE.

With the large-scale access of new energy sources, the operation mode and the uncertainty factors of the power grid increase, meanwhile the short-term power shock has an increasing impact, which exacerbates the complexity of the system frequency response characteristics and the difference in space-time distribution. Based on the analysis of principles and adaptability of emergency control and correction control, this paper comprehensively considers the operation mode and new energy access, and proposes a centralized control decision-making method based on model and trajectory driving from the perspective of global frequency control. The method also considers the continuously adjustable control resources and low voltage ride through of new energy. Finally, the practicality of the proposed method is verified based on the actual power grid simulation. © 2022 IEEE.

Flexible interconnection of low-voltage distribution station area with power electronic device can realize dynamic capacity increase and coordination. When three-phase four-leg converter is used as a flexible interconnection device, there is no need to the isolation transformer, which can reduce the volume and cost of the system, but it will generate circulating current on the ground line. According to the main circuit topology of the system, the average circuit model of ground circulating current is established, and the influencing factors of ground circulating current are deduced. The low-frequency circulating current suppression strategy based on the average duty cycle control of the fourth leg and the high-frequency circulating current suppression method based on the DC side common mode inductor are proposed respectively for the low frequency and high frequency components of the ground circulating current. Finally, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed average circuit model and the suppression method. © 2023 IEEE.

The modular multilevel converter based battery energy storage system (MMC-BESS) has the problem of pulsating current affecting battery life, and the high cost of retrofitting traditional modular multilevel converter (MMC) stations. The proposed DC direct-mounted energy storage topology in this paper is battery friendly and required number of battery cells is only 1/6 of MMC-BESS, greatly saving costs. This paper analyzes the topology structure and working principle of DC direct-mounted energy storage devices, and proposes a design method for the DC direct-mounted energy storage devices. The proposed design method is validated through simulation and prototype experiments. The simulation and construction of a DC 750V prototype have verified that the prototype has achieved good charging and discharging functions for DC energy storage, with small fluctuations in DC grid connected current and good power control effect. This study can provide reference and guidance for the design and application of high-voltage and high-capacity direct current energy storage devices that support offshore wind power to move towards the deep sea in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

To improve the intelligent supervision level of substation, a defects images dataset facing to substation scenario was built by collecting and labeling a huge number of images about substation equipment defects. Then a transfer learning model based on the YOLOX model was trained by adjusting the model training parameters. Finally, a model with 87.4 % mean average precision and affordable speed (about 0.07 second per image) was constructed. And the experiments results proved that this model can detect the preset defects of substation equipment accurately in acceptable speed according to the visible image obtained from monitoring equipment, which means it has satisfying application potential in future. © 2022 IEEE.
