Recent years, modular multilevel converter (MMC) is one of the most promising topologies applied to high voltage direct current transmission (HVDC). In order to solve the circulating currents caused by structural defects of MMC, a fuzzy adaptive PI circulating current suppressing controller is proposed based on mathematical model of MMC and functioning fuzzy subset inference method: The fuzzy number is calculated according to the error of system state, error variation, membership function and fuzzy control rules;The center of gravity method is used for defuzzification, and finally the PI parameters are modified. Finally, the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation model with fuzzy adaptive PI controller is established. The results show that the fuzzy adaptive PI circulating current suppressing controller is effective for MMC-HVDC. © 2023 IEEE.

Decision Support System for Adaptive Restoration control of Distribution System

Aiming at the high-dimensional uncertainties of restoration process, an optimization model for distribution system restoration control is proposed considering expected restoration benefits, expected restoration costs, and security risks of the overall restoration scheme. In the proposed model, the effect of security control on restoration process is actively analyzed considering the security control costs of preventive, emergency, and correction controls. A two-layer decision support framework for distribution system restoration decision support system(DRDSS) is also designed. The upper layer of the proposed framework generates the pre-adjustment schemes of operation mode for energized power grid by load transfer and selects the optimal pre-adjustment scheme and the corresponding partitioning scheme based on the partition adjustment results of each pre-adjustment scheme. In addition, it optimizes the spatial-temporal decision-making of the inter-partition connectivity. For each partition, the lower layer of the proposed framework pre-selects the units and loads to be restored according to the pre-evaluated restoration income, generates the table of alternative restoration scheme for coping with uncertain events through simulation and deduction, and evaluates the risk and benefit of each *** the uncertain events in the actual restoration process, the current restoration scheme can be adaptively switched to a sub-optimal scheme or re-optimized if necessary. Meanwhile, the proposed framework provides an information interaction interface for collaborative restoration with the related transmission system. A 123-node test system is built to evaluate the effectiveness and adaptability of the proposed model and framework.

The modular multilevel converter based battery energy storage system (MMC-BESS) has the problem of pulsating current affecting battery life, and the high cost of retrofitting traditional modular multilevel converter (MMC) stations. The proposed DC direct-mounted energy storage topology in this paper is battery friendly and required number of battery cells is only 1/6 of MMC-BESS, greatly saving costs. This paper analyzes the topology structure and working principle of DC direct-mounted energy storage devices, and proposes a design method for the DC direct-mounted energy storage devices. The proposed design method is validated through simulation and prototype experiments. The simulation and construction of a DC 750V prototype have verified that the prototype has achieved good charging and discharging functions for DC energy storage, with small fluctuations in DC grid connected current and good power control effect. This study can provide reference and guidance for the design and application of high-voltage and high-capacity direct current energy storage devices that support offshore wind power to move towards the deep sea in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

The Low-Frequency Oscillation (LFO), Ultra-Low Frequency Oscillation (ULFO) and other oscillation can endanger the safety and stability operation of the power grid. However current relevant standards only have clear provisions on the critical damping ratio of LFO. Based on the risk of ULFO in high proportion hydropower systems, the principle and key influencing factors of ULFO are derived theoretically. According to the characteristics and hazards of ULFO, a method for determining the critical damping ratio of ULFO is explored, and the effectiveness of the method is tested through the actual response trajectory. © 2024 IEEE.

The uncertainty of new energy power forecasting makes it difficult to implement the dispatching plan. Therefore, a security and stability checking method of the dispatching plan considering the uncertainty of new energy is proposed. The security and stability margin minimization calculation model considering the uncertainty constraints of new energy is established. A high-risk planning situation set that may lead to the abnormal implementation of the planning is generated based on the conservative principle. Based on the high-risk planning situation set, the security and stability of the assessment fault set are evaluated by quantitative analysis method. The security and stability check results and the implementation of the dispatching plan are obtained considering the uncertainty of the new energy power forecasting. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by an example of actual power grid. © state grid Electric Power Research Institute 2023.

Extreme weather, such as cold waves and frosts, can significantly impact the output of wind farms. To address this issue, this paper proposes a short-term power prediction and correction method suitable for wind farms during extreme weather, based on the K-nearest neighbor algorithm and multiple linear regression model. By verifying that wind power output is affected by wind speed, temperature, humidity, wind power kurtosis, and other factors, the K-nearest neighbor algorithm is used to obtain the sample set of similar days on the day to be measured. The regression model of influencing factors and output errors is established to improve the power prediction accuracy. A wind farm in northwest China is used as a test example to verify the effectiveness of the output correction method. © 2024, state grid Electric Power.

Filters are key equipment in LCC-HVDC projects. It filters out characteristic harmonics generated by the converter and prevents the effect of harmonics generated by converters on the AC power grid. Currently, most DC transmission projects use passive filters. The first use of hybrid active power filters in the Fujian Guangdong DC interconnection project. This paper introduces the application framework, theory, control and protection system design of hybrid active power filters in LCC-HVDC projects. © 2023 IEEE.

With the rapid development of new energy resources and the economic consideration for the construction of the grid, the four-terminal and above lines are being used more and more, but subject to technical and other conditions, the fault ranging of the current multi-terminal line is mostly single-terminal ranging achieved by distance protection, which has large errors when a single-phase ground fault occurs via transition resistance. In this paper, a double-terminal data ranging method is introduced for multi-terminal line faults based on the combined sequence component. First, the fault section selection is performed by the combined sequence component bucking voltage algorithm. Then the fault ranging is performed based on the fault section selection results with the analog information collected at the first end of the faulty branch and the virtual analog information at the nearest T-point of the branch. After theoretical analysis and RTDS simulation experiments, it is verified that the above fault ranging methods can accurately range the multi-terminal line faults under various conditions of line faults. © state grid Electric Power Research Institute 2023.

In the urban environment, the positioning results of RTK/INS integrated navigation are often influenced by grosses, which degrades the positioning accuracy and damages the stability of the navigation system. To solve this dilemma, a loose coupled RTK/INS positioning method based on robust estimation is proposed. Firstly, during RTK positioning, for eliminating corrupted measurements caused by Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) signals and multipath, this paper researches the RTK positioning algorithm based on bifactor robust estimation. In this method, the ambiguity is fixed and solved back into the Double-Difference (DD) equation in least square model. The posterior residual vector is used for the bifactor robust processing to eliminate the influence of some abnormal observations. Then, the RTK positioning results are loosely integrated with Inertial Navigation System (INS), and the robust processing based on Huber equivalent weight function is implemented in the process of the Kalman filter update. Finally, the proposed algorithm is validated by vehicle data in a typical urban environment. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional least squares-based RTK, the accuracy of the bifactor RTK method is improved by 2.48 cm in the horizontal direction. Meanwhile, in contrast with the RTK/INS method based on the single robust processing, the accuracy of the proposed robust bifactor error method in the horizontal direction is increased by 3.85 cm. The navigation accuracy and reliability are significantly enhanced. In dynamic environment, this research has certain theoretical reference and practical value for vehicular and autonomous driving applications. © Aerospace Information Research Institute 2024.

This paper presents a method of applying MMC based on battery energy storage system (BESS) to HVDC system to realize power decoupling control on AC and DC side. Firstly, the basic structure and working principle of MMC-HVDC system based on BESS are analyzed. Then, based on the mathematical equivalent model, the MMC-BESS decoupling control method based on DC power control is derived, and the AC-DC power decoupling control is realized. Finally, a +400kV MMC-HVDC system is built on the RTDS platform, and the proposed control strategy and power decoupling effect are verified. The results show that the MMC-BESS control strategy proposed in this paper is effective. The MMC-HVDC system based on BESS can realize active power decoupling control between AC side and DC side, and the unbalanced power between AC side and DC side can be compensated by the charge and discharge of BESS. © 2023 IEEE.
