Decision Support System for Adaptive Restoration control of Transmission System

The power system restoration control has a higher uncertainty level than the preventive control of cascading failures. In order to ensure the feasibility of the decision support system of restoration control, a decision support framework for adaptive restoration control of transmission system is proposed, which can support the coordinated restoration of multiple partitions, coordinated restoration of units and loads, and coordination of multi-partition decision-making process and actual restoration process. The proposed framework is divided into two layers, global coordination layer and partition optimization layer. The upper layer partitions the transmission system according to the power outage scenario, constantly and dynamically adjusts the partitions during the restoration process, and optimizes the time-space decision-making of inter-partition connectivity. For each partition, the lower layer pre-selects restoration targets according to the estimated restoration income, optimizes the corresponding restoration paths, and evaluates the restoration plans according to the expected net income per unit of power consumption. During the restoration process, if the restoration operation such as energizing the outage branch fails, the current restoration plan will be adaptively switched to the sub-optimal one or re-optimized if necessary. The framework includes two operation modes, i.e., the on-line operation mode and training simulation mode, and provides an information interaction interface for collaborative restoration with related distribution systems. The effectiveness and adaptability of the proposed framework is demonstrated by simulations using the modified IEEE 118-bus system.

In the field of high-speed railway communication, solving the growing demand for multimedia services of passengers has always been a problem. To provide users with stable video services, caching technology has received more and more attention. In this paper, we refine the details when users assist the on-board relay to cache videos in railway stations. Based on this scenario, we improve the existing asynchronous allocation strategy and propose a user-assisted caching strategy named sequential allocation algorithm with recommendation for caching videos. The experimental results show that the algorithm is superior to synchronous and asynchronous allocation algorithm in social revenue and user participation ratio. © 2022 IEEE.

In the extrusion process of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables, when the local extrusion temperature is higher than the decomposition temperature of the cross-linking agent, the cross-linking agent will be thermally decomposed in advance, resulting in a low degree of pre-crosslinking of the material. In order to study the effect of pre-crosslinking on the space charge characteristics of XLPE DC cable materials, this paper carried out low-level pre-crosslinking treatment at different temperatures before the high-temperature cross-linking of the material. The aggregate structure of the material was characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and cross-linking degree test, and the space charge characteristics at different temperatures were studied. The experimental results show that pre-crosslinking will reduce the crosslinking degree of XLPE on the one hand, and also lead to the decrease of crystallinity and the reduction of spherulite size. The changes of the aggregate structure make it easier to inject the homopolar charges in pre-crosslinked XLPE samples. Under the high temperature, the residual impurity molecules in the sample will also dissociate, generating a large number of the heteropolar charges, resulting the occurrence of severe electric field distortion. © 2022 IEEE.

Due to the continuous improvement of new energy penetration, grid-forming control has become a hot issue in grid-connected technology. Grid-forming control simulates the mechanical and electrical transient characteristics of the synchronous unit. The power or load using the converter has the inertia, damping, frequency and voltage adjustment, and other operating characteristics of the synchronous unit machine technology. This paper introduces the development process and basic concept of grid-forming control. It introduces the application of grid-forming control from three aspects of grid connection, frequency modulation, and virtual inertia. This paper focuses on the current problems of grid-forming control, such as control parameter tuning, power oscillation, and parallel grid-forming control circulation. At the same time, the prospect of research direction is put forward given the above problems. © 2021 IEEE.

Light gas protection only operates when gas within the transformer collection chamber reaches threshold volume. Such criterion failed to reflect transformer conditions accurately due to the lack of understanding for defect developing process and corresponding gas generation- convergence pattern, which has led to lower protection reliability and has caused several transformer explosions. To address current problem, an experimental tank with structure resembling that of a power transformer is set up, inside which the needle-plate oil-pressboard breakdown model is planted. Experimental results indicate that throughout fault development, voltage drops became more frequent until arcing occurs, so is HFCT signal;meanwhile gas generation rate increases through slight partial discharge, spark discharge and arcing stage, the collected gas volume corresponds with patterns above. The purpose of this study is to clarify the defect developing process and the gas generation-convergence pattern for oil-immersed transformer internal fault in guidance for a more reliable protection method. © 2021 IEEE.

With the wide application of power semiconductor devices in severe working conditions, the reliability and lifetime estimation of power semiconductor devices have become the research hotspot. Power cycling test is a significant method to study the reliability issues. This paper first analyzes the existing methods and then proposes a new power cycling method which considers not only realistic electrical conditions but also the thermal stress from different regions. Firstly, rainflow algorithm is used to extract the temperature cycles with large amplitude. Next, the junction temperature cycles and case temperature cycles are matched using integer programming algorithm and modified by means of equivalent substitution. At the same time, a method to control the case temperature and the junction temperature simultaneously is proposed. Afterwards, modified rainflow reconstruction algorithm is used to combine these matched cycles to temperature arrays. Finally, test load profile is formed. An electric vehicle motor drive system based on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure mission profile is used to verify the proposed method. This method can simultaneously stress the bonding wire and the solder layer, which provides a new way to access the reliability of power devices in real application. © 2021 IEEE.

The communication safety of the safety and stability control system has received more and more attention. This paper analyzes the risks and consequences of the inter-station communication in detail. Based on the special structure of the inter-station communication, a security and stability control system inter-station communication protection method is proposed. This method builds a complete communication management scheme by adding function codes, counting bits and check codes in the message, thereby realizing effective identification and protection of risk points such as communication interruption, information tampering, and playback attacks. At present, China has overtaken the United states to become the world's largest new energy vehicle market. Due to differences in developmental trajectory, developmental mode, and charging standards, China and the U.S. have common interests and the foundation for cooperation, which can work together for a win-win development. Charging interoperability is the basis for ensuring charging safety and interchangeability of electric vehicles. This study examined and compared the differences between China and the U.S. in the standards for conductive AC charging of electric vehicles. The requirements for a control pilot circuit, proximity circuit, current capacity, and charging-state transition timing were analysed. Hierarchical and layered interoperability test cases based on GB/T 34657 and SAE J2953 series were presented. A dual interface interoperability test system was constructed and used to verify the test method rationale. The results provided a mutual inspection solution for AC charging equipment between China and the U.S. and accelerated global application and promotion of the electric vehicle industry. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The high proportion of renewable energy into the power grid, say, the large-scale wind power generation connected to the power grid, is the key approach to achieve the clean and low-carbon energy transition. Under the premise of ensuring power grid's safe and stable operation, it is necessary to study the influence of wind power capacity expansion on the transient angle stability (TAS). Aiming at several typical dominant modes in Qinghai power system, which holds many new energy resources, the sensitivity of wind power capacity expansion in different locations to the TAS, as well as its key influence factors and feasible explanations, are explored. It may lay the foundation of the location optimization of wind power capacity expansion. © 2020 IEEE.

The dynamic load distribution within in-service axlebox bearings of high-speed trains is crucial for the fatigue reliability assessment and forward design of axlebox bearings. This paper presents an in situ measurement of the dynamic load distribution in the four rows of two axlebox bearings on a bogie wheelset of a high-speed train under polygonal wheel–rail excitation. The measurement employed an improved strain-based method to measure the dynamic radial load distribution of roller bearings. The four rows of two axlebox bearings on a wheelset exhibited different ranges of loaded zones and different means of distributed loads. Besides, the mean value and standard deviation of measured roller–raceway contact loads showed non-monotonic variations with the frequency of wheel–rail excitation. The fatigue life of the four bearing rows under polygonal wheel–rail excitation was quantitatively predicted by compiling the measured roller–raceway contact load spectra of the most loaded position and considering the load spectra as input.
