Analysis of planform migration characteristics and lag effects in meandering rivers using remote sensing image interpretation

Meandering rivers of various scales are found globally and exhibit a high degree of regularity in their evolutionary processes. This study utilized remote sensing interpretation techniques to extract and analyze the planform migration characteristics of meandering rivers. Specifically, remote sensing images of three meandering rivers—the Black and White Rivers in the Tibetan Plateau and the Itui River in the Amazon Basin—were selected for this analysis. By comparing these observations with existing research data, this study quantitatively revealed the lag response patterns in the planform migration processes of meandering rivers. The findings of the study revealed several key insights.(1) The average migration rates for the three rivers were determined to be 1.74, 3.84, and 2.34 m/a, respectively. The critical values of the relative curvature radius for the river channels ranged from 1.5 to 2.0, 1.7 to 2.2, and 2.5 to 3.0, where local migration rate peaks were observed. These findings align with previous research that reported critical values between 2.0 and 4.0.(2) A significant lag is observed in the migration rate relative to curvature in spatial variation, with lag distances for the Black, White, and Itui Rivers measuring 227, 281, and 324 m,corresponding to 2.02, 2.39, and 3.15 times the river width, respectively.(3) A comparison with other meandering rivers indicates that, despite significant variations in climatic and hydrological conditions and river discharges differing by over 1,000times, the ratio of lag distance to river width(relative lag distance) for meandering rivers consistently falls within the range of 2.0to 4.0. This study suggests that the establishment of critical values for the relative curvature radius and the concentration of the relative lag distance reflects distinct quantitative relationships that emerge during the evolutionary processes of meandering rivers, aiming to minimize energy expenditure. Effect of backward-facing step heights in vegetation-step model on reducing the velocity of a tsunami inundation and increasing the energy dissipation efficiency

A coastal forest combined with a backward-facing step is an efficient facility to reduce tsunami damage to residential areas behind sea *** study establishes a generalized model,and experimentally explores the water level changes upstream of the vegetation-step mitigation model as well as its energy dissipation effect under different initial Froude numbers,step heights,and vegetation *** results show that the relative backwater rise increases with the growth of vegetation density,patch length and initial Froude number,representing a slowing down of the tsunami *** for energy dissipation,it is mainly caused by the additional resistance of the vegetation and the hydraulic *** the vegetation condition not only affects the energy dissipation due to stem-scale turbulence within the patch,but also changes the hydraulic jump process of water falling from the step in cooperation with the step *** a result,the energy dissipation efficiency always increases with the growth of vegetation density,vegetation patch length and step *** the criterion that the energy dissipation efficiency and its growth rate can hardly change with vegetation parameters,this study innovatively defines the threshold slope and gives the principle of judging the most cost-effective vegetation conditions at different step *** results are expected to provide an important reference for the design of composite tsunami mitigation facilities.

A curvature-driven cloud removal method for remote sensing images

Cloud coverage has become a significant factor affecting the availability of remote-sensing images in many *** mitigate the adverse impact of cloud coverage and recover ground information obscured by clouds,this paper presents a curvature-driven cloud removal *** that each image can be regarded as a curved surface and the curvature can reflect the texture information well due to its dependence on the surface's undulation degree,the presented method transforms image from natural domain to curvature domain for information reconstruction to maintain details of reference *** order to improve the overall consistency and continuity of cloud removal results,the optimal boundary for cloud coverage area replacement is determined first to make the boundary pass through pixels with minimum curvature ***,the curvature of missing area is reconstructed based on the curvature of reference image,and the reconstructed curvature is inversely transformed to natural domain to obtain a cloud-free *** addition,considering the possible significant radiometric differences between different images,the initial cloud-free result will be further refined based on specific checkpoints to improve the local *** evaluate the perfor-mance of the proposed method,both simulated experiments and real data experiments are carried *** results show that the proposed method can achieve satisfactory results in terms of radiometric accuracy and consistency.

Forest in situ observations through a fully automated under-canopy unmanned aerial vehicle

Close-range sensing has yet to attain the status of being a dependable source for in situ forest information as the conventional field *** solution has its advantages and disadvantages in terms of accuracy,completeness,and *** a forest area,Terrestrial Laser Scanning(TLS)has the highest data quality,but is limited to static perspectives and lack the *** Mapping Systems(MMS)systems gain on the efficiency but compromise the data *** recently,under-canopy UAV caught attentions for its potential to leverage the advantages of both TLS and MMS *** study demonstrates the feasibility of autonomous forest in situ investigation using an autonomous under-canopy UAV Laser Scanning(ULS)system,and evaluates the perfor-mance of such system in deriving key forest and tree attributes through a comparison with other close-range sensing systems such as the TLS and the Personal Laser Scanning(PLS).The under-canopy ULS system uses an onboard LiDAR sensor to aid its self-traverse in an unknown forest environment and to collect point cloud data during its movement inside the *** factors influencing the systems'overall performance were investigated via various *** point cloud data collected by the under canopy autonomous ULS system deliver similar stem capturing capacity as TLS in single layer forest stands with less *** RMSEs of the DBH estimates were 0.81 cm(3.80％),4.12cm(19.92％),and 5.13cm(22.01％),*** RMSEs of the stem curve estimates were 1.27 cm(5.48％),3.97 cm(17.63％),and 5.18 cm(22.49％),*** geometric accuracy and the completeness of the point cloud significantly improved when the trajectory was *** studies on autonomous route planning in complex unknown forest is required to improve the system mobility,data quality,and the applicability of such systems in future practical forest in situ observations.

Graph neural network-based similarity relationship construction model for geospatial services

Spatiotemporal imagery selection for full coverage image generation over a large area with HFA-Net based quality grading

Remote sensing images often need to be merged into a larger mosaic image to support analysis on large areas in many ***,the performance of the mosaic imagery may be severely restricted if there are many areas with cloud coverage or if these images used for merging have a long-time ***,this paper proposes a method of image selection for full coverage image(i.e.a mosaic image with no cloud-contaminated pixels)***,a novel High-Frequency-Aware(HFA)-Net based on Swin-Transformer for region quality grading is presented to provide a data basis for image *** constraints are presented to optimize the image *** the temporal dimension,the shortest-time-span constraint shortens the time span of the selected images,obviously improv-ing the timeliness of the image selection results(*** a shorter time span).In the spatial dimension,a spatial continuity constraint is proposed to select data with better quality and larger area,thus improving the radiometric continuity of the *** on the GF-1 images indicate that the proposed method reduces the averages by 76.1％and 38.7％in terms of the shortest time span compared to the Improved Coverage-oriented Retrieval algorithm(MICR)and Retrieval Method based on Grid Compensation(RMGC)methods,***,the proposed method also reduces the residual cloud amount by an average of 91.2％,89.8％,and 83.4％when compared to the MICR,RMGC,and Pixel-based Time-series Synthesis Method(PTSM)methods,respectively.

E-PRedictor: an approach for early prediction of pull request acceptance

A pull request(PR) is an event in Git where a contributor asks project maintainers to review code he/she wants to merge into a project. The PR mechanism greatly improves the efficiency of distributed software development in the opensource community. Nevertheless, the massive number of PRs in an open-source software(OSS) project increases the workload of developers. To reduce the burden on developers, many previous studies have investigated factors that affect the chance of PRs getting accepted and built prediction models based on these factors. However, most prediction models are built on the data after PRs are submitted for a while(e.g., comments on PRs), making them not useful in practice. Because integrators still need to spend a large amount of effort on inspecting PRs. In this study, we propose an approach named E-PRedictor(earlier PR predictor) to predict whether a PR will be merged when it is created. E-PRedictor combines three dimensions of manual statistic features(i.e., contributor profile, specific pull request, and project profile) and deep semantic features generated by BERT models based on the description and code changes of PRs. To evaluate the performance of E-PRedictor, we collect475192 PRs from 49 popular open-source projects on GitHub. The experiment results show that our proposed approach can effectively predict whether a PR will be merged or not. E-PRedictor outperforms the baseline models(e.g., Random Forest and VDCNN) built on manual features significantly. In terms of F1@Merge, F1@Reject, and AUC(area under the receiver operating characteristic curve), the performance of E-PRedictor is 90.1%, 60.5%, and 85.4%, respectively.

FCN-Attention:A deep learning UWB NLOS/LOS classification algorithm using fully convolution neural network with self-attention mechanism

The Ultra-Wideband(UWB)Location-Based Service is receiving more and more attention due to its high ranging accuracy and good time ***,the None-Line-of-Sight(NLOS)propagation may reduce the ranging accuracy for UWB localization system in indoor *** it is important to identify LOS and NLOS propagations before taking proper measures to improve the UWB localization *** this paper,a deep learning-based UWB NLOS/LOS classification algorithm called FCN-Attention is *** proposed FCN-Attention algorithm utilizes a Fully Convolution Network(FCN)for improving feature extraction ability and a self-attention mechanism for enhancing feature description from the data to improve the classifica-tion *** proposed algorithm is evaluated using an open-source dataset,a local collected dataset and a mixed dataset created from these two *** experiment result shows that the proposed FCN-Attention algorithm achieves classification accuracy of 88.24％on the open-source dataset,100％on the local collected dataset and 92.01％on the mixed dataset,which is better than the results from other evaluated NLOS/LOS classification algorithms in most scenarios in this paper.

Developing non-noble catalyst synthesis under green conditions with efficient electrochemical reactions is a challenging task in green energy *** meet this challenge,the synthesis of hybridized non-noble cobalt and iron in the zeolitic-imidazole framework(Co/Fe-ZIF)through a solid-state thermal(SST)method is *** the obtained Co/Fe-ZIF structure,iron atoms are uniformly dispersed and randomly hybridized with primary cobalt atoms and imidazole linker,similar to the structure of *** hybridized Co/Fe-ZIF shows potential as an electrocatalyst for oxidation evolution reaction(OER).The optimal iron-incorporating catalyst,Co/Fe_(0.2)-ZIF,demonstrates remarkable performance with a minimized overpotential of 285 mV at the current density(j)of 10 mA·cm^(-2)in 1 M *** synergistic effect of iron and cobalt ions on the catalyst provides active sites that bind to intermediate(OOH^(*))more strongly and facilitate high electron charge transfer,enhancing efficient ***,the synergistic Co/Fe_(0.2-)ZIF catalyst demonstrates excellent durable reaction time compared to non-iron catalyst(ZIF-67)and conventional catalyst(RuO_(2)).

Experimental study of reservoir flushing through a bottom tunnel initially covered by cohesive sediment

Reservoir sediment flushing,one of the most effective strategies for alleviating reservoir sedimentation,involves discharging sediment-laden flows downstream through bottom ***,whether flushing can be accomplished if the intake of a bottom tunnel is initially covered by cohesive sediment remains poorly ***,flume experiments were done to investigate cohesive sediment flushing in a *** is demonstrated that cohesive sediment in a reservoir is harder to flush than non-cohesive sediment.A higher water level in the reservoir,initially smaller cover layer thickness,and lower dry density of the sediment favor the occurrence of sediment *** flushing process of cohesive sediment is significantly affected by *** the combined action of gravity erosion and water erosion,the scour hole upstream of the dam is characterized by angular and broken *** threshold conditions for flushing of non-cohesive and cohesive sediments are *** for-mulas applicable to both non-cohesive and cohesive sediment are proposed to estimate the equilibrium scour depth immediately upstream of the bottom tunnel ***,empirical models are proposed for the time variation of sediment position in the bottom *** current findings are significant for informing the design and operation of reservoirs on rivers carrying fine-grained cohesive sediment in support of reservoir benefits and capacity preservation.
