The 5-axis milling processes were conducted with several uncoated WC-Co tools, which are with taper ball end mills with four flutes. There is a severe problem of high rate of tool failure, which has led to the high cost and low productivity of the milling process. In order to find out the real reason, some former work, which included the tool geometry analysis, tool path and tool posture analysis, as well as the cutting force calculating, had been done. It has been found that most of the tool failures are resulted from cutting edge chipping or the workpiece material of titanium alloys attached to the tool, Meanwhile, a suddenly applied load or an abrupt unloading of the tool at the end of a cut is another important factor. Moreover, the tool materials had been analyzed, which included the element composition analysis with XRD, the microstructure analysis with SEM. XRD results indicate the cobalt at the tip of tool is less than at the shank of tool. SEM results indicate there are micro-cracks concentrated in the cutting edge area. The tool material failure mechanism will be set up based on the tool material analysis in this study.

In order to reduce the oxidizing, volatilizing and carbonizing caused by Mg element in the traditional methods for synthesizing Mg2X (X=Si, Ge, Sn) compounds, solid state reaction at low temperature was introduced, DTA, XRD, SEM, and EDS were used to characterize the powders. At the same time, the influences of parameters during the synthesisprocessing were discussed. The results suggest that the oxidation of Mg can be restrained by changing heating programs, the separation of Sn can be controlled by adjusting pre-pressure, the volatility of Mg can be made up by controlling excessive content of Mg. When the excessive content of Mg is about 0.0025 mol, the pre-pressure is about 20 MPa, the samples is kept under 823 K for 8 h, high purity Mg2Sn powders can be obtained under this experimental conditions.

In this paper the inflaming retarding effects of epoxy resins blended with basic magnesium carbonate [Mg(OH)2·4MgCO3·5H2O] were synthesized. When the add-on of basic magnesium carbonate reached 56.5%, the LOI of the epoxy resins increased to 29.7%. The flame retardant mechanisms of basic magnesium carbonate for epoxy resins was investigated by XRD, TG-DSC and SEM. Results showed that through the ways of diluting, cooling, isolating and their synergies, basic magnesium carbonate achieves the flame retarding target.

Nearly single-phase and polycrystalline charge-density-wave compound K0.3MoO3 have been prepared by using a simple method. In this work, K2CO3 and MoOs were used as starting materials and reacted by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) sintering. The product is nearly single phase K0.3MoO3 determined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Measurement of temperature dependence of resistivity reveals that the transport property of polycrystalline K0.3MoO3 obviously differs from that of single crystal due to the grain boundaries and the anisotropic structure in this kind of compound.

After combining the PVDF and BST powders with different particle sizes, the anti-voltage strengths of composites was tested. Although the concentrates of ceramic were all the same, their anti-voltage strengths were distinguished. The results showed that the bigger particles or less thickness of material could benefit to the anti-voltage strength and ultimately enhanced the energy storage density of composites. Moreover, the distribution of particle dimension also influenced the strengths of materials. Composite with homogeneous particles performed higher strength than that of composites with inhomogeneous particles.

Taking the running parameters of boiler drum in 8 typical working conditions as data of boundary conditions, the transient thermal stress, mechanical stress and total stress of a 300MW boiler drum is calculated by finite element method. The results show that when the vapor pressure is close to or higher than the normal working vapor pressure, the temperature difference on the boiler wall has little influence on the total stresses. The vapor pressure in boiler drum is the main influential factor to the total stresses, and there is a proportion relationship between them. With the relationship, the maximum stress in the drum can be calculated.

BaCO3 whiskers exhibiting different morphologies were fabricated by a simple precipitation reaction of barium ch/oride with sodium carbonate in the absence and presence of poly-(styrene-alt-maleic acid) (PSMA) as a crystal growth modifier at room temperature. The as-prepared products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The influences of experimental parameters on the size and morphology of BaCO3 whiskers were investigated and discussed. It was found that the as-prepared BaCO3 whiskers are single crystals with diameter ranging from 100 to 300 run, and grow along the crystallographic a-axis or [100] direction. BaCO3 whiskers with different morphologies, such as branching and dendritic structure, can be obtained depending on the experimental conditions. With increasing PSMA concentration, the diameter of BaCO3 whiskers decreases.

The thermal shock resistance and anti- aluminum erosion of TiB2 - BN multiphase ceramics composites were studied. The experimental results show that the TiB2-BN multiphase ceramic possesses a good thermal shock resistance at high temperatures ( 1000, 1200, 1400, 1500 ℃ ), with the increasing in thermal shocking temperature, the electro-conductivity of TiB2-BN ceramics increases. The metal aluminum has a great influence on the properties of TiB2 - BN ceramics and the main reason is that the aluminum reacts seriously with BN. It is suggested that the content of BN should be reduced to the greatest extent.

Ordered iron fiber arrays were electrodeposited on the surface of zinc foils using "FeSO4 solution-sodium caprylate-Decanol" 3-component reverse hexagonal liquid crystal as soft templates. The structure of the soft templates and the synthesized iron ,fibers were characterized by polarizing microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis etc. The experimental results shou that the synthesized iron fibers with a crystal phase grew up in the form of fiber clusters of about 200 nm along the direction perpendicular to the cathode surface. Each cluster was composed of several tens of fibers. The fibers had almost the same length of more than 10μm with a diameter of about 50 nm.

The isothermal oxidation behavior at 900–1300°C for 20 h in air of bulk Ti3AlC2 with 2.8 wt% TiC sintered by means of hot pressing was investigated in the work. The isothermal oxidation behavior generally followed a parabolic rate law. The parabolic rate constants increased from 1.39×10[10] kg[2]·m[4]·s[1] at 900°C to 5.56×10[9] kg[2]·m[4]·s[1] at 1300°C. The calculated activation energy was 136.45 kJ/mol. It was demonstrated that Ti3AlC2 had excellent oxidation resistance due to the continuous, dense; adhesive protect scales consisted of a mass of α-Al2O3; a little of TiO2;/or Al2TiO5. In principle, the oxide scale was grown by the inward diffusion of O[2]; the outward diffusion of Ti[4+]; Al[3+]. The rapid outward diffusion of cations usually resulted in the formation of cracks, gaps,; holes.
