Atomistic study on the microscopic mechanism of grain boundary embrittlement induced by small dense helium bubbles in iron

The helium bubbles induced by 14 MeV neutron irradiation can cause intergranular fractures in reduced activation ferritic martensitic steel,which is a candidate structural material for fusion *** order to elucidate the susceptibility of different grain boundaries(GBs)to helium-induced embrittlement,the tensile fracture processes of 10 types of GBs with and without helium bubbles in body-centered cubic(bcc)iron at the relevant service temperature of 600 K were investigated via molecular dynamics *** results indicate that in the absence of helium bubbles,the GBs studied here can be classified into two distinct categories:brittle GBs and ductile *** atomic scale analysis shows that the plastic deformation of ductile GB at high temperatures originates from complex plastic deformation mechanisms,including the Bain/Burgers path phase transition and deformation twinning,in which the Bain path phase transition is the most dominant plastic deformation ***,the presence of helium bubbles severely inhibits the plastic deformation channels of the GBs,resulting in a significant decrease in elongation at *** bubble-decorated GBs,the ultimate tensile strength increases with the increase in the misorientation ***,the coherent twin boundary∑3{112}was found to maintain relatively high fracture strength and maximum failure strain under the influence of helium bubbles.

Fiber materials are key materials that have changed human history and promoted the progress of human civilization. In ancient times, humans used feathers and animal skins for clothing, and later they widely employed natural fibers such as cotton, hemp, silk and wool to make fabrics(Fig. 1a). Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) are used widely for that it is small and sensitive. It is suitable to insert a sensor based on FBGs to some narrow cavities. At the same time, a slender continuum structure requires tiny sensors inside it. A multi-node differential curvature measurement sensor of FBG fiber is designed in this paper to realize temperature compensation. Considering the friction among FBG, driving wires, and niti tube and external forces applied on the end, a mechanical model about the FBG sensor and the continuum manipulator is proposed. At last, a linear interpolation method is used in the curvature estimation. Under the condition that there is no end resistance and only the bending moment and friction along the outer surface of the continuum generated by the steel wire driven by the motor the absolute measurement error of the position of the end of the continuum is 1.9mm. © 2024 IEEE.

Decentralized Federated Learning Algorithm Under Adversary Eavesdropping

In this paper, we study the decentralized federated learning problem, which involves the collaborative training of a global model among multiple devices while ensuring data *** classical federated learning, the communication channel between the devices poses a potential risk of compromising private information. To reduce the risk of adversary eavesdropping in the communication channel, we propose TRADE(transmit difference weight) concept. This concept replaces the decentralized federated learning algorithm's transmitted weight parameters with differential weight parameters, enhancing the privacy data against eavesdropping. Subsequently, by integrating the TRADE concept with the primal-dual stochastic gradient descent(SGD)algorithm, we propose a decentralized TRADE primal-dual SGD algorithm. We demonstrate that our proposed algorithm's convergence properties are the same as those of the primal-dual SGD algorithm while providing enhanced privacy protection. We validate the algorithm's performance on fault diagnosis task using the Case Western Reserve University dataset, and image classification tasks using the CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 datasets,revealing model accuracy comparable to centralized federated learning. Additionally, the experiments confirm the algorithm's privacy protection capability.

An efficient stiffness analysis model based on shear deformation theory for flexible skin shear variable-sweep wing

Fixed-wing aircraft cannot maintain optimal aerodynamic performance at different flight speeds. As a type of morphing aircraft, the shear variable-sweep wing(SVSW) can dramatically improve its aerodynamic performance by altering its shape to adapt to various flight *** order to achieve smooth continuous shear deformation, SVSW's skin adopts a flexible composite skin design instead of traditional aluminum alloy materials. However, this also brings about the non-linear difficulty in stiffness modeling and calculation. In this research, a new SVSW design and efficient stiffness modeling method are proposed. Based on shear deformation theory, the flexible composite skin is equivalently modeled as diagonally arranged nonlinear springs, simulating the elastic force interaction between the skin and the mechanism. By shear loading tests of flexible composite skin, the accuracy of this flexible composite skin modeling method is verified. The SVSW stiffness model was established, and its accuracy was verified through static loading tests. The effects of root connection, sweep angles, and flexible composite skin on the SVSW stiffness are analyzed. Finally, considering three typical flight conditions of SVSW: low-speed flow(Ma = 0.3,Re = 5.82 × 10^(6)), transonic flow(Ma = 0.9, Re = 3.44 × 10^(6)), and supersonic flow(Ma = 3,Re = 7.51 × 10^(6)), the stiffness characteristics of SVSW under flight conditions were *** calculated results guide the application of SVSW.

As a crucial auxiliary technique in inertial navigation, scene matching has been widely applied in aircraft navigation and guidance. To enhance the adaptability and efficiency of scene matching algorithms in complex environments, existing approaches have gradually shifted towards heterogeneous scene matching, such as optical/ infrared scene matching based on deep learning features, with a focus on point features. However, due to the complex and diverse nonlinear distortions between optical and infrared images, the matching accuracy often fails to meet the practical requirements of navigation and positioning. In view of this problem, an EPM-Net algorithm based on edge features is proposed to improve matching performance by extracting more stable and discriminative edge point descriptors. Experimental results on infrared datasets demonstrate that this method achieves an average matching accuracy improvement of more than four times compared to traditional and existing deep learning methods. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Ride-hailing services are typical on-demand mobility services. The efficiency of a ride-hailing system depends on the degree of coordination between the supply and demand distribution in space and time. The simulation platform for a ride-hailing system can provide a basic environment to train and test various algorithms for developing better operation strategies, such as vehicle repositioning, order dispatching, etc. In this paper, we design a universal simulation platform for the ride-hailing system, applicable to both grid map environment and road network map environment, and illustrate the map environment design and pre-processing methods using the real data of Chengdu. © 2024 IEEE.

A hybrid algorithm considering continuous transportation for flexible job shop scheduling problem with finite transportation resources

Traditional flexible job shop scheduling ignores transportation or considers production and transportation separately. With factory digitalization and the widespread use of automated guided vehicles (AGVs), the isolated scheduling of production and transportation is no longer sufficient to meet increased productivity demands. Thus, integrated scheduling has become an inevitable option. Previous research has not sufficiently explored the domain knowledge of flexible job shop scheduling problem with finite transportation resources (FJSP-T), and thus the optimal solution cannot be found in an acceptable time using meta-heuristic algorithms. This paper explores FJSP-T to enhance the efficiency of the entire production system, and the objective is to minimize the makespan. The transportation situations of FJSP-T are analyzed, and it has been identified that the key to solving the problem is considering continuous transportation of AGVs. Further, the active decoding method and the initialization method considering continuous transportation are designed. A hybrid algorithm (HA) is proposed, which incorporates local search into the genetic algorithm, and various neighborhood structures for local search are designed. Finally, the superiority of the active decoding method is proved experimentally, and the algorithm performance is tested on two sets of famous benchmark instances (including 67 instances). Compared with other state-of-the-art reported algorithms, the proposed method obtains the new best solutions for 6 instances, and all solutions are not lower than previous results. Meanwhile, the computational time is only a few seconds. As a result, the proposed HA has significantly improved in solving FJSP-T regardless of the solution accuracy and the computational time. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
