Design memristor-based computing-in-memory for AI accelerators considering the interplay between devices, circuits, and system

Recent advances in developing beyond von Neumann architectures have moved the memristive devices to the forefront as one of the key enablers to realizing memristive computing-in-memory(m CIM)structures, which shows a great promise to boost the energy-efficiency and the performance of artificial intelligence(AI) chips. In this study, by considering the interactions between devices, circuits, and systems in the m CIM design, we propose several cross-layer design techniques, including(1) the BL-SL interactive forming protection(BSIFP) circuit that can reduce the voltage drop on the selected transistor, suppress the current overshoot by 65.96%, and improve the bit-cell density by more than 10.19%,(2) the clamping transistor trimming scheme(CTTS) to prevent the multiply-and-accumulate(MAC) signal margin degradation from chip-to-chip resistance variations, and(3) dynamic input-parallelism and output-precision(DIPOP) that can reduce the energy cost by 22.92% in a typical inference task with negligible accuracy loss. The results demonstrate the significant role of the cross-layer-interactive approach and provide a preliminary guideline for highly-efficient m CIM design.

Avatars, as promising digital representations and service assistants of users in Metaverses, can enable drivers and passengers to immerse themselves in 3D virtual services and spaces of UAV-assisted vehicular Metaverses. However, avatar tasks include a multitude of human-to-avatar and avatar-to-avatar interactive applications, e.g., augmented reality navigation,which consumes intensive computing resources. It is inefficient and impractical for vehicles to process avatar tasks locally. Fortunately, migrating avatar tasks to the nearest roadside units(RSU)or unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) for execution is a promising solution to decrease computation overhead and reduce task processing latency, while the high mobility of vehicles brings challenges for vehicles to independently perform avatar migration decisions depending on current and future vehicle status. To address these challenges, in this paper, we propose a novel avatar task migration system based on multi-agent deep reinforcement learning(MADRL) to execute immersive vehicular avatar tasks dynamically. Specifically, we first formulate the problem of avatar task migration from vehicles to RSUs/UAVs as a partially observable Markov decision process that can be solved by MADRL algorithms. We then design the multi-agent proximal policy optimization(MAPPO) approach as the MADRL algorithm for the avatar task migration problem. To overcome slow convergence resulting from the curse of dimensionality and non-stationary issues caused by shared parameters in MAPPO, we further propose a transformer-based MAPPO approach via sequential decision-making models for the efficient representation of relationships among agents. Finally, to motivate terrestrial or non-terrestrial edge servers(e.g., RSUs or UAVs) to share computation resources and ensure traceability of the sharing records, we apply smart contracts and blockchain technologies to achieve secure sharing management. Holographic 3D display is highly desirable for numerous applications ranging from medical treatments to military ***,it is challenging to simultaneously achieve large viewing angle and high-fidelity color reconstruction due to the intractable constraints of existing ***,we conceptually propose and experimentally demonstrate a simple and feasible pathway of using a well-designed color liquid crystal grating to overcome the inevitable chromatic aberration and enlarge the holographic viewing angle,thus enabling large-viewing-angle and color holographic 3D *** use of color liquid crystal grating allows performing secondary diffraction modulation on red,green and blue reproduced images simultaneously and extending the viewing angle in the holographic 3D display *** principle,a chromatic aberration-free hologram generation mechanism in combination with the color liquid crystal grating is proposed to pave the way for on such a superior holographic 3D *** proposed system shows a color viewing angle of~50.12°,which is about 7 times that of the traditional system with a single spatial light *** work presents a paradigm for achieving desirable holographic 3D display,and is expected to provide a new way for the wide application of holographic display.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is one of the most dangerous diseases in recorded human history due to its high contagiousness and rapid dissemination. Moreover, people who already have medical issues like cardiovascular disease (CVD) have a higher risk of getting seriously ill. Therefore, this study proposes a deep learning-based prediction model for the mortality of COVID-19 patients with CVD. The research substances are introduced as follows. First, we obtain the original dataset from the Kaggle website provided by the Mexican government, and extract our experimental data. After that, we develop a deep learning-based prediction model for the mortality of COVID-19 patients with CVD while applying a 5-fold cross-validation approach for the model training and validation. Finally, we evaluate the performance of the proposed model and also compare it with many common machine learning models. In our experimental results, the proposed model achieved higher performance than all of the other models. It facilitates decision-making and provides an accurate mortality prediction for COVID-19 patients with CVD. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper studies the periodic zero-dynamics attacks(ZDAs)in multi-agent systems without velocity measurements under directed ***,two types of attack modes are addressed,i.e.,infinite number and finite number of zero-dynamics *** the former case,the authors show that the consensus of the considered system cannot be *** the latter case,the dynamic evolution of the agents is investigated and it is found that only attacking the rooted agents can destroy the ***,a sufficient condition which quantifies whether or not the consensus value is destroyed is given,revealing the relationship among parameters of system model,filter and attack ***,simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical findings.

Analysis of SF6 decomposed products by fibre-enhanced Raman spectroscopy for gas-insulated switchgear diagnosis

Sulphur hexafluoride(SF6)decomposed products analysis is highly critical in the earlystage fault diagnosis of gas-insulated switchgear(GIS).Spectrum technology outperforms traditional methods on non-invasiveness,no sample preparation,and no ***,the authors present an improved fibre-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(FERS)as a comprehensive analytical tool to detect a suite of SF_(6)decomposed products(SO_(2)F_(2),SOF_(2),SO_(2),H_(2)S,CF_(4),OCS,CO_(2),and CO).The FERS approach is combined with two iris diaphragms for spatial filtering and a rear-end reflector for additional Raman signal *** of detection down to 1×10^(−6)–8×10^(−6)are achieved for different SF6 decompositions,and quantification of an undefined multigas,sampled from an 800 kV GIS in service,is realised utilising SF6 as the internal standard gas and with a maximum error of 5.5%.The GIS is diagnosed according to the results and confirmed by an on-site *** authors foresee that this technique will provide a route for trace gas analysis in the power industry.

Metallised film capacitors(MFCs)are renowned for their unique self-healing(SH)properties,which bestow them with exceptional reliability and stability in the face of intense electric fields,high voltages,and pulse power ***,the exploration of SH characteristics concerning single-layer dielectric film remains insufficient for advancing MFC reliability *** establish the theoretical correlation of SH characteristics from the device to the film in the MFCs,this work developed a simulation model to analyse the SH dynamic behaviour in the *** effects of coupling capacitors,arc resistance and insulation resistance on the macroscopic characteristics(voltage drop and pulse current)are focused during the SH process in *** results indicate that SH is primarily associated with the voltage drop duration rather than the sampling ***,the SH process in MFC is characterised as an abrupt decrease in voltage to its minimum *** refinement enhances the SH energy dissipation model of *** quantified relationship between the macroscopic characteristics and microstructure evolution(polypropylene decomposition and aluminium electrode vaporisation)is established in MFCs under diverse SH energy *** SH energy and duration increase,the proportion of energy attributed to polypropylene decomposition increases,resulting in multi-layer ablation and adhesion within the metallised film and a pronounced deterioration in MFC electrical *** examination of macro-micro perspectives sheds new light on the intricate mechanisms governing the SH behaviour in MFCs,offering valuable insights for the advancement of their design,reliability evaluation,and performance optimisation in diverse electrical applications.

Physical model of overlying rock movement law in Yuwang coal mine

With the increase in mining depth,traditional coal mining methods not only waste coal resources but also seriously impact the stability of the roadway support structure during the collapse of the overburden *** contrast,the top-cutting and depressurization technology utilizes the expansion effect of the rock *** technology allows the rock body to collapse entirely,filling up the mining area through active intervention,which reduces the subsidence height of the overburden rock and significantly improves the coal extraction rate in the mining *** study utilizes 3D seismic exploration technology to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of fissure zones and rich zones of the rock strata in the mining area and investigate the movement law of overburdened rock during the coal seam mining process using the 110 mining *** conducts numerical analysis combined with geomechanical modeling experiments to explore the movement law of the overburden rock under the influence of mining activities at Yuwang Coal *** numerical analysis results indicate that the horizontal and vertical displacements of the rock body on the roof of the roadway are minimal when the angle of the slit is 75°.The overlying rock movement during the test is categorized by modeling the stress and strain fields into the following stages:fracture zone expansion,collapse zone gestation,rapid collapse zone development,and overlying rock *** rock on the cut side collapses more completely,breaking up and expanding to support the overburden,effectively reducing the depth of crack expansion and the extent of rock settlement and *** integrity of the roadway roof remains intact during the rock collapse under NPR *** study provides a scientific basis for understanding the movement law of overlying rock and for controlling the stability of the roadway perimeter rock in kilometer-deep underground mining.
