Compared with traditional video summarization approaches, aerial video summarization is a new and challenging issue for its particular characteristics. Aerial video data is a massive data stream, without pre-edit structures such as sports or news video data, lack of camera motion such as zoom and pan. On account of these characteristics, we proposed a novel approach for summarization. First, we extract GIST features for each frame as the holistic scene representation. Then, we divide aerial video into temporal segments representing a visual scene using on-line clustering method by examine GIST features of each frame only once. Finally, we select several key frames from each scene for summarization according to visual saliency index (VSI) of each frame computed from their visual saliency map. In the paper, we proposed new criterion for estimation of temporal segmentation of streaming video. Experimental observations show the success of our approach on aerial video summarization. © 2011 IEEE.

The phase information of single-phase electric meter is crucial to improve the level of load management and the quality of modeling. A method for single-phase electric meter phase discrimination based on multiple linear regression (MLR) is proposed. The MLR equation takes the single-phase electric meter voltage as the dependent variable. Meanwhile, it takes the gateway meter voltage, the gateway meter current and the single-phase electric meter current as the independent variables. Each single-phase meter forms a regression equation with the gateway meter A, B and C respectively. The determination coefficients of the three regression equations are calculated. According to the value of the coefficients, the phase of single-phase electric meter is discriminated. An example is given to analyze the proposed method with actual energy meter reading data. The analysis results show that the proposed method has higher accuracy and reliability. © 2019 IEEE.

In local power grid with high wind power penetration, using wind farm (WF) with energy storage system (ESS) as black-start (BS) source will significantly accelerate the restoration after blackout. For enabling WF to be a reliable BS source, an ESS sizing method based on asymmetric copula function is proposed, aiming mainly at smoothing WF output power during the process of starting up generator unit. To model the asymmetric correlation between ESS power sizing and capacity sizing, the joint probability distribution is built by asymmetric copula function. The most suitable copula function is determined by maximum likelihood estimation and a goodness of fit test. Considering sample variation, the parametric bootstrap method is applied for the confidence intervals of dependence parameter estimation. A case study with real WF data demonstrates that the proposed asymmetric copula function is more accurate and ESS sizing cost is lower consequently. © 2020 IEEE.

Compression behavior of concrete confined by FRP- ECC composites layers: Experiments and modeling

Fiber-reinforced composite (FRP)-engineered cementitious composite (ECC) composite layers are widely used to strengthen concrete structures. This reinforcement method is a passive constraint, and the reinforcement effect is significantly affected by the ductility and stiffness of the composite layer. However, its influencing mechanism is still unclear. This paper prepares composite layers with ECC and different FRP meshes and uses them to confine concrete columns. Through compression experiments, the influence of composite layer ductility, stiffness and matrix type on the compressive performance of confined concrete columns is analyzed, hoping to reveal the compression characteristics and failure mechanism of composite layer reinforced concrete. Referring to the existing stress-strain model of FRP-confined concrete with large fracture strain and considering the strength contribution of the constraining layer, a design-oriented model suitable for FRP-ECC composite layer-confined concrete is established to provide a reference for the reinforcement application of FRP-ECC composite layer. The results show that increasing the ductility and stiffness of the constraining layer can disperse concrete cracks and provide greater confining pressure, respectively, thereby improving the reinforcement efficiency. Compared with unconfined concrete, the strength of concrete confined by FRP-ECC can be increased by up to 80 % and the ductility can be increased by 90 %, which shows the effectiveness of FRPM-ECC confinement. Since ECC has excellent crack dispersion ability, the hoop stress can be evenly and effectively transferred from the core concrete to the textile mesh, so that the FRP can play a confining role. The established bilinear linear model has good consistency with the experimental curve, and can provide theoretical guidance for the application of FRP-ECC composite layers.

In electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction (NITRR), the generation of active hydrogen (*H) and its poor utilization in conversion of various nitrate intermediates often cause mismatched kinetics, resulting in low ammonia yield rate (YR NH3 ) and Faraday efficiency (FE NH3 ). Herein, we construct a spatially-confined Cu/Fe 2 O 3 heterointerfaces within porous carbon fiber, featuring oxygen vacancy-rich iron oxide nanoparticles (∼14.7 nm) interface-coupled well-dispersed Cu nanocrystals. The interfacial metallic copper sites with optimized interfacial electron transfer accelerate the consumption of NO 2 – through supplying the most abundant active *H to equilibrate NITRR kinetics. The easy desorption of generated NH 3 from active sites facilitates the accelerated reaction cycles by rapidly exposing the spent active sites. Correspondingly, this catalyst achieves nearly 100 % nitrate conversion, with a YR NH3 of 81.3 mg h −1 mg cat -1 , FE NH3 of 98.11 %, and 100 % NH 3 selectivity without any nitrite accumulation, outperforming most state-to-art catalysts as reported. Impressively, when nitrite acts as reactant, ammonia synthesis through nitrite reduction reaches YR NH3 of 99 mg h −1 mg cat -1 and FE NH3 of 99.44 % outperforming all the same series reported. Moreover, active *H quenching and isotope labeling experiments uncover the generation of the most abundant active *H species and their high utilization among the reported results. Density function theory (DFT) calculations further indicate the interfacial Cu/Fe 2 O 3 regulates the d-band center of the catalyst, optimizing the adsorption of nitrate and further lowering the reaction energy barrier of the decisive step (*NO→*NOH).

Automatic diagnosis of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) using chest computed tomography (CT) images is of great significance for preventing its spread. However, it is difficult to precisely identify COVID-19 due to the following problems: 1) the location and size of lesions can vary greatly in CT images;2) its unique characteristics are often imperceptible in imaging findings. To solve these problems, a Deep Dual Attention Network ($\text {D}^{\text {2}}\text {ANet}$) is proposed for accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 by integrating dual attention modules (DAMs) with different scales of the feature extractor, where DAM can adaptively detect relevant lesion regions to extract discriminative imaging features of COVID-19. Specifically, DAM is implemented by two parallel blocks: 1) global attention block (GAB) and 2) local attention block (LAB), in which GAB is designed to roughly locate the infected regions from the entire image by modeling global contexts while LAB is developed to explicitly highlight subtle differences of COVID-19 from other viral pneumonia in the infected regions by learning detailed lesion information. Experimental results on several public datasets show that $\text {D}^{\text {2}}\text {ANet}$ outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches in various performance metrics. © 2020 IEEE.

Breast cancer is a great threat for women around the world. Mammography is the main approach for early detection and diagnosis. Microcalcification (MC) in mammograms is one of the important early signs of breast cancer. Their accurate detection is important in computer-aided detection (CADe). In this paper, we proposed a new Microcalcification detection method for full field digital mammograms (FFDM) by integrating Possibilistic Fuzzy c-Means (PFCM) clustering algorithm and weighted support vector machine (WSVM). The method includes a training process and a testing process. In the training process, possible microcalcification regions are located and extracted. Extracted features are selected with mutual information based technique. Positive and negative samples are weighted with PFCM and used to train a weighted SVM. A similar procedure is performed on test images. The proposed method is evaluated on a database of 410 clinical mammograms and compared with a standard unweighted support vector machine classifier. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

To improve energy storage performance of the multi-ring RCP flywheel comprised of inner hub, tungsten alloy ring and outer retainer, optimization design process for the radial thicknesses of components and interference fit assembly is demonstrated. Radial thicknesses of these components and magnitude of interference fit are set as design parameters to construct parametric analysis model. Design of experiments (DOE) technique is adopted to generate design matrix for sensitive analysis. Subsequently, radial basis function (RBF) approximation is employed to search for the optimal design considering structural integrity requirement. Finally, a proper range of the magnitude of interference fit is obtained which can not only prevent neither slippage nor separation between the inner hub and tungsten alloy ring but also ensure the safety of structural strength. In addition, it is found that to ensure a high moment of inertia and energy density, a reasonable large radial thickness of tungsten alloy ring and a reasonable small radial thickness of outer retainer are required. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
