Demulsification with simultaneous water purification by coupling filtration and enhanced oil droplet coalescence at anode interface in an electrochemical reactor

With the increasing demand of recycling disposal of industrial wastewater,oil-in-water(O/W)emulsion has been paid much attention in recent years owing to its high oil ***,due to the presence of surfactant and salt,the emulsion was usually stable with complex physicochemical interfacial properties leading to increased processing ***,a novel flow-through electrode-based demulsification reactor(FEDR)was well designed for the treatment of saline O/W *** contrast to 53.7%for electrical demul-sification only and 80.3%for filtration only,the COD removal efficiency increased to 92.8%under FEDR ***,the pore size of electrode and the applied voltage were two key factors that governed the FEDR demulsification *** observing the mor-phology of oil droplets deposited layer after different operation conditions and the behavior of oil droplets at the electrode surface under different voltage conditions,the mechanism was proposed that the oil droplets first accumulated on the surface of flow-through elec-trode by sieving effect,subsequently the gathered oil droplets could further coalesce with the promoting effect of the anode,leading to a high-performing *** study offers an attractive option of using flow-through electrode to accomplish the oil recovery with simultaneous water purification.

A large amount of sludge is inevitably produced during sewage ***(US)as anaerobic digestion(AD)pretreatment was implemented on different sludges and its effects on batch and semi-continuous AD performance were *** was ef-fective in sludge SCOD increase,size decrease,and CH_(4)production in the subsequent AD,and these effects were enhanced with an elevated specific energy *** indicated by semi-continuous AD experiments,the mean daily CH_(4)production of US-pretreated A^(2)O-,A^(2)O-MBR-,and AO-AO-sludgewere 176.9,119.8,and 141.7 NmL/g-VSadded,whichwere 35.1%,32.1%and 78.2%higher than methane production of their respective raw *** US of A^(2)O-sludge achieved preferable US effects and CH_(4)production due to its high organic con-tent andweak sludge structure *** response to US-pretreated sludge,amore diverse microbial community was observed in *** US-AD system showed negative net energy;however,it exhibited other positive effects,e.g.,lower required sludge retention time and less residual total solids for *** is a feasible option prior to AD to improve anaer-obic bioconversion and CH_(4)yield although further studies are necessary to advance it in practice.

Film uniformity of solution-processed layers is the cornerstone of large-area perovskite light-emitting diodes,which is often determined by the‘coffee-ring effect’.Here we demonstrate a second factor that cannot be ignored is the solid-liquid interface interaction between substrate and precursor and can be optimized to eliminate rings.A perovskite film with rings can be formed when cations dominate the solid-liquid interface interaction;whereas smooth and homogeneous perovskite emitting layers are generated when anions and anion groups dominate the *** is due to the fact that the type of ions anchored to the substrate can determine how the subsequent film *** interfacial interaction is adjusted using carbonized polymer dots,who also orient the perovskite crystals and passivate their buried traps,enabling a 225 mm^(2) large-area perovskite light-emitting diode with a high efficiency of 20.2%.

state of health (SOH) estimation is essential to ensure safety and reliability in the operation of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs). The aging of fuel cells results from the deterioration of multiple internal components, and the aging degree of some key components even directly determines the end of cell life. Due to the complexity of the internal reactions in fuel cell, many internal parameters cannot be measured or recorded during aging tests. In addition, external characteristics do not reflect the internal changes in the cell. Therefore, establishing a multi-scale metric based on fuel cell components is very important for fuel cell life research. During the aging process of a fuel cell, the contributions of different components to the overall aging vary significantly. Additionally, the allocation of indicator parameters presents a challenge in multi-scale modeling. To address these issues, this paper proposes a method to construct multi-scale indicators for fuel cells. Firstly, based on the operational mechanisms of fuel cells, a 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of the fuel cell is developed using COMSOL Multiphysics 6.2 to simulate the working environment of the fuel cell. In addition, based on existing research, the aging mechanisms of various fuel cell components are analyzed, and aging models are established. The aging of selected components is then simulated in MATLAB R2023a based on the component aging mechanism model. Moreover, a co-simulation platform based on COMSOL and MATLAB is established to facilitate parameter interaction and iteration between the two models, thereby obtaining the aging data of the cell. Finally, the data is analyzed to select parameters and allocate coefficients for the multi-scale aging indicators. The multi-scale aging indicator can provide an effective approach to characterizing the aging state of fuel cells. © 2025 SAE International.

Distributed drive vehicles are typical over-actuated systems,and taking full advantage of the four-wheel independent drive capability can enhance the maneuverability and safety of the *** this study,a new torque vector control algorithm is proposed to maximize the use of the tire force of each wheel and realize the coupling control of sideslip angle and yaw ***,based on the analysis of vehicle steering hysteresis characteristics,a critical yaw rate is proposed to establish a reliable yaw rate stability boundary,while a phase portrait analysis method is used to determine the sideslip angle stability boundary and calculate the target value to complete the reference target setting of the torque vector control ***,a torque vector controller with hierarchical architecture is designed,consisting of three parts:the first one is the longitudinal force distribution layer,with the control objective of reaching the road adhesion limit simultaneously for the front and rear axles of the vehicle as much as possible,the second one is the additional yaw moment control layer,which generates the additional yaw moment of the vehicle based on model predictive control,the third one is the wheel torque regulation layer,which combines the additional yaw moment and longitudinal drive force distribution requirements and other constraints to complete the four-wheel wheel torque distribution based on the optimal tire adhesion ***,the effectiveness of the torque vector control algorithm is verified through a typical experiment scenario.

In order to solve the problem that multiple system integration tests cannot be carried out due to the lack of electric drive systems in the early stage of vehicle development, a virtual reality combination test scheme based on the digital twin model of electric drive systems was proposed, and a method for constructing the digital twin model of electric drive systems was presented. The calculated and measured values of the digital twin model of water outlet temperature of electric drive systems under different operating conditions were compared, with a maximum error of only 4.7%. This digital twin model has the characteristics of accuracy, efficiency, and stability. Based on this model, multiple system integration virtual reality integration testing can be completed in the absence of an electric drive system, and vehicle thermal management performance can be evaluated at the early stage of vehicle development. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Effects of acid deposition control in China:a review based on responses of subtropical forests

For many decades,acid deposition used to pose a significant regional air pollution challenge in *** substantial emission control of anthropogenically derived sulfur and nitrogen containing gasses,both sulfur and nitrogen deposition,as well as the acid rain-affected area,have significantly decreased compared to their peak ***,particularly in the humid subtropics,are sensitive to acid deposition,as evidenced by soil acidification,sulfate and nitrate leaching in stream water,and elevated soil nitrous oxide *** in the total deposition of sulfur and nitrogen,caused a significant decline in sulfate and nitrate leaching from subtropical forest and subsequently in sulfate and nitrate concentrations in stream water,although there was about a 5-year *** delay may be attributed to the desorption of accumulated sulfate and continued elevated mineralization of accumulated nitrogen *** of nitrous oxide,a potent greenhouse gas,also declined in nitrogen-saturated subtropical forest soils,as soil water nitrate concentration ***,subtropical forests in China suffering from elevated acid deposition have begun to ***,the current levels of sulfur and nitrogen deposition continue to exceed the critical loads,i.e.,the assigned threshold levels in accordance with emission control policies,in more than 10%of the country’s land area,respectively,indicating remaining risks of acidification and ***,further emission reductions are urgently needed,also because they will help achieving goals related to air quality and nitrous oxide emissions.

Applying heteroatom co-doped carbon nanotube for manifesting high performance in the electrochemical reduction of aqueous nitrogen oxide by gold nanoparticles

Electrochemical NO-to-NH_(3) under ambient conditions could be a viable alternative having advantages in terms of energy consumption and exhaust gas recycling of NO,replacing a traditional ammonia synthesis method of the Haber–Bosch *** synthesizing boron(B-)and nitrogen(N-)co-doped carbon nanotube(CNT)based gold(Au)catalysts,B-dopants elevate the conductivity of carbon nanotube by sp2 hybridization on graphene and implant B–N domains within the graphene layer,and result in facilitating the embedding amount of Au accompanied by high dispersibility with low particle *** density functional theory(DFT)calculations elucidate that the electron cloud transmitted from B-dopant to the active site of Au induces the Lewis acidic site,and the O-distal pathway occurs following a spontaneous *** of the electron-deficient B-doping area accompanied by N-defects and B–O edges retains the major valence state of Au as Au^(δ+),and suppresses hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)by repulsing the hindrance of H*.This record exhibits the highest faradaic efficiency(FE)of 94.7%,and NH_(3) yield rate of 1877.4μg·h^(-1)·mg_(cat)^(-1),which is the optimal yield over energy consumption in the field of the ambient reduction of aqueous NO.

Tracking control on roads of autonomous and connected flying automobiles (ACFA), is critical for safety, particularly in emergencies. In these situations, the ACFA must either generate its trajectory in real-time (for instance, to execute an evasive maneuver if an obstacle is detected) or obtain trajectory data from external sources. Generally, the ACFA receives this trajectory information as GPS time samples. However, the feedback control scheme must compensate for the ACFA's lateral speed data, which is not directly accessible. In this paper, we propose a dual-mode approach to design a tracking control scheme for an ACFA, which is achieved through three steps: (1) Using limited preview information from GPS waypoint samples, we calculate the trajectory's radii of curvature with 'least-square' estimation, (2)we design a linear model predictive control(MPC) with Kalman filter (KF) for high tracking performance, and(3) When high-level control fails, by using errors as the position, heading, and heading rate we design a feedback control strategy with a fixed structure to track the desired trajectory by calculating stabilizing gains. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is demonstrated through virtual simulation results. © 2024 IEEE.
