Ultra-low power MoS2 optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity for color target recognition

Optoelectronic synapses that integrate visual perception and pre-processing hold significant potential for neuromorphic vision systems（NVSs）. However, due to a lack of wavelength sensitivity, existing NVS mainly focuses on gray-scale image processing, making it challenging to recognize color images. Additionally, the high power consumption of optoelectronic synapses, compared to the 10 fJ energy consumption of biological synapses, limits their broader application. To address these challenges, an energy-efficient NVS capable of color target recognition in a noisy environment was developed,utilizing a MoS2optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity. Benefiting from the distinct photon capture capabilities of 450, 535, and 650 nm light, the optoelectronic synapse exhibits wavelength-dependent synaptic plasticity, including excitatory postsynaptic current（EPSC）, paired-pulse facilitation（PPF）, and long-term plasticity（LTP）. These properties can effectively mimic the visual memory and color discrimination functions of the human vision system. Results demonstrate that the NVS, based on MoS2optoelectronic synapses, can eliminate the color noise at the sensor level, increasing color image recognition accuracy from 50% to 90%. Importantly, the optoelectronic synapse operates at a low voltage spike of0.0005 V, consuming only 0.075 fJ per spike, surpassing the energy efficiency of both existing optoelectronic and biological synapses. This ultra-low power, color-sensitive device eliminates the need for color filters and offers great promise for future deployment in filter-free NVS.

Period doubling bifurcation (PDB) phenomenon, which is prevalent in nonlinear systems, has attracted considerable attention because of its potential application value. As an ideal platform for studying the pulse dynamics of nonlinear systems, the mode-locked fiber laser has been intensively investigated in the near-infrared (NIR) spectral region. However, there is a paucity of relevant reports of pulse dynamics in the mid-infrared (MIR) spectral region. Especially for the MIR large-mode-area (LMA) fluoride fiber oscillator, the existence of multiple transverse modes and a new spatial degree of freedom makes the pulse dynamics phenomenon is more complex, which needs to be further explored. In this paper, a soliton regime with a pulse duration of 404.5 fs, repetition frequency of 45.02 MHz, and average output power of 105.3 mW is obtained in a few-mode fluoride fiber oscillator mode-locked by the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) technique. By merely increasing the power of the pump, a period doubled soliton with the pulse intensity varying between two different values can be obtained. This work facilitates a more profound comprehension of the nonlinear dynamics in the mid-infrared multimode fluoride fiber laser, and opens up new opportunities for the chaos, optical frequency combs and all-optical modulation. © 2025 SPIE.

High-speed underwater wireless optical communication technology is a much-needed communication technology in current underwater applications, and micro-LED is a promising light source option. Considering the limitation of transmission distance due to the low optical power of a single micro-LED pixel, an underwater wireless optical communication system based on a novel massive GaN micro-LED array includes more than 5000 pixels fabricated via flip-chip technology is proposed, which can achieve 165-Mbps and 90-Mbps at 37.7 m and 73.5 m, respectively. Therefore, the feasibility of realizing a high data rate and long transmission distance in an underwater wireless optical communication system based on a novel massive micro-LED array is confirmed. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Performance evaluation of high-power PPS based on HTS HIA by using FEM simulation

The capacitor charge power supplies (CCPS) based on homopolar inductor alternator (HIA) still faces significant challenges in terms of efficiency and power density. These limitations are primarily due to the large internal reactance and serious skin effects in the armature winding, low fundamental air-gap magnetic field, and the transient flux attenuation in HIA. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a CCPS based on high-temperature superconducting (HTS) HIA. The aim is to improve power density and efficiency by mitigating the aforementioned issues. The performance of the proposed HTS HIA-based CCPS is evaluated and compared with conventional HIA using FEM simulations. The study focuses on key performance indicators, such as power density, efficiency, and temperature rise. The HTS-HIA-based CCPS demonstrates a significantly higher power density and efficiency, and notably lower temperature rise compared to the conventional HIA. The reduction in internal reactance and the increasing in air-gap magnetic flux density by using slotless stator core and large air-gap length, and the elimination of transient flux attenuation by using HTS coil are critical factors that enhance the power density. The reduction in copper losses due to the slotless stator core and lower electrical frequency which reduces squeezing effects dramatically, along with the lower losses in the stator iron core, are critical factors that enhance the efficiency. The lower temperature rise is due to the much smaller copper loss compared to the conventional HIA. The proposed HTS-HIA-based CCPS shows substantial improvements in efficiency, power density and continuous emission capacity, making it a promising solution for applications such as laser weapons. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The crevice corrosion of the reinforcing steel in the carbonated simulated concrete pore solutions(SCPSs)containing 0.04 mol/L chloride was *** comparison,the steel without crevice covered on its surface was also *** showed that the crevice corrosion in the uncarbonated SCPS was not triggered and the steel remained passivity by suppressing the anodic dissolution in the crevice *** SCPS was carbonated to have pH values of 10.5 and 11.5,the crevice corrosion was easier to be activated than the widely reported pitting corrosion owing to the rapid oxygen depletion within the crevice,but the crevice corrosion damage might be alleviated to a certain extent due to the relative compact surface film formed inside the *** further carbonation led to the activation dissolution of both the crevice interior and exterior,causing the more serious corrosion *** process of the crevice corrosion was systematically analyzed by combining the electrochemical measurement results and Evens polarization diagram.

Suppression of microcracks in femtosecond laser grooving of aluminum using a flame environment

Femtosecond laser machining of aluminum often suffers from microcrack formation and edge irregularities, affecting processing quality. This study explores the impact of a flame environment on groove characteristics. Results show that in ambient air, high-energy laser pulses induce microcracks, especially at high scanning speeds, while the flame environment suppresses microcracks and improves edge uniformity. The flame preheats the material, reduces thermal shock, and enhances material removal, leading to deeper and more consistent grooves. These findings provide insights for optimizing laser processing parameters to improve machining stability and surface quality. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Effcient and stable hydrogen evolution and antibiotic degradation in all-pH-scale water/alkaline seawater using Fe-Co phosphide hollow nanocages fabricated from metallurgical solid waste

The utilization of seawater,a plentiful and cost-effective resource,instead of freshwater for H_(2)production through electrolysis has garnered significant ***,we present the synthesis of open-structured Fe-Co phosphide(FCP)nanocages for the overall seawater electrolysis,employing metallurgical solid waste(steel rolling sludge,SRS)as the precursor *** FCP nanocages demonstrate exceptional catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in all pH scales,achieving performance comparable to that of Pt/C catalysts at high current densities,The electrolyzer assembled with FCP‖FCP requires 1.57 and 1.68 V to achieve current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm^(-2),***,the assembled FCP electrolyzer showcases over 100 h of cycling stability and nearly 100%Faradaic ***,it can be powered by commercially available silicon solar panels,operating under an intensity of 100 mW cm^(-2),and by wind-driven sources,rendering it highly promising for real-world applications,The seawater hydrogen evolution system coupled with levofloxacin(LEV)degradation was constructed for the first *** oxidation potential of LEV oxidation reaction(LEVOR)was significantly lower than that of oxygen evolution reaction(OER),indicating that the LEV degradation reaction occurred preferentially and achieved a removal efficiency of 98.57%within 60 *** study provides effective strategies for valorizing SRS and offers insights into the fabrication of highperformance catalysts.

A multi-strategy enhanced moth-flame optimization algorithm for complex inverse kinematics problems in series robots

In this study of optimizing the dynamic characteristics of the manipulator, with the increase of motion redundancy, the complexity of solving the inverse motion problem increases significantly, making it extremely challenging to develop a general analytical solution algorithm. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a multi-strategy enhanced moth-flame optimization algorithm, DMFO. Firstly, the uneven initialization of MFO limits its comprehensive initial search capability and leads to slow convergence speed. Consequently, it lacks competitiveness in specific engineering problems. The mutation chaos strategy, quantum evolution strategy and precise elimination strategy are used to improve the formation of DMFO. Secondly, DMFO and eight meta-heuristic algorithms (GA, PSO, ABC, MFO, DE, WO, BKA, COA) are tested on CEC2017, demonstrating its superior local and global exploitation and exploration capabilities. Then these kinematics models of 4,6,7-DOF manipulators is established based on DH method, and the objective function is derived from the forward motion equation. The effectiveness of DMFO in solving the inverse kinematics of robot arms is validated through its application. Finally, the engineering verification is carried out on the manipulator UR16e, which highlights the success of DMFO in addressing the inverse motion problem of multi-DOF serial robots. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
