In this paper, we study a class of impulsive stochastic fuzzy delayed Cohen-Grossberg neural networks with distributed infinite transmission delays. By Razumikhin technique and differential inequalities, some sufficient conditions ensuring the mean-square exponential input-to-state stability of our considered Cohen-Grossberg neural networks are obtained. These results can include constant delay and bounded distributed delay as its special cases, and generalize and improve some earlier publications. A numerical example is demonstrated to verify the theoretical results.

Pronounced variability due to the growth of renewable energy sources, flexible loads, and distributed generation is challenging residential distribution systems. This context, motivates well fast, efficient, and robust reactive power control. Real-time optimal reactive power control is possible in theory by solving a non-convex optimization problem based on the exact model of distribution flow. However, lack of high-precision instrumentation and reliable communications, as well as the heavy computational burden of non-convex optimization solvers render computing and implementing the optimal control challenging in practice. Taking a statistical learning viewpoint, the input-output relationship between each grid state and the corresponding optimal reactive power control is parameterized in the present work by a deep neural network, whose unknown weights are learned offline by minimizing the power loss over a number of historical and simulated training pairs. In the inference phase, one just feeds the real-time state vector into the learned neural network to obtain the 'optimal' reactive power control with only several matrix-vector multiplications. The merits of this novel statistical learning approach are computational efficiency as well as robustness to random input perturbations. Numerical tests on a 47-bus distribution network using real data corroborate these practical merits. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Modern distribution grids are currently being challenged by frequent and sizable voltage fluctuations, due mainly to the increasing deployment of electric vehicles and renewable generators. Existing approaches to maintaining bus voltage magnitudes within the desired region can cope with either traditional utility-owned devices (e.g., shunt capacitors), or contemporary smart inverters that come with distributed generation units (e.g., photovoltaic plants). The discrete on-off commitment of capacitor units is often configured on an hourly or daily basis, yet smart inverters can be controlled within milliseconds, thus challenging joint control of these two types of assets. In this context, a novel two-timescale voltage regulation scheme is developed for distribution grids by judiciously coupling data-driven with physicsbased optimization. On a faster timescale, say every second, the optimal setpoints of smart inverters are obtained by minimizing instantaneous bus voltage deviations from their nominal values, based on either the exact alternating current power flow model or a linear approximant of it;whereas, on the slower timescale (e.g., every hour), shunt capacitors are configured to minimize the longterm discounted voltage deviations using a deep reinforcement learning algorithm. Extensive numerical tests on a real-world 47-bus distribution network as well as the IEEE 123-bus test feeder using real data corroborate the effectiveness of the novel scheme. We have successfully achieved manipulation and assembly of microbeads having the size of 100μm diameter by hemispherical end-effectors with high stability and accuracy. The motivation of achieving assembly of actual cells lies in the great significance of it in tissue regeneration and cell analysis. Firstly, the most difficult problem we need to solve is the releasing problem caused by adhesion force. The viscosity on cell surface is much larger than the microbeads which makes cell releasing challenging. Secondly, the cell can generate its deformation, then contact area with end-effector will change during grasping process. This may influence the adhesion force and also bring problem to releasing. Thirdly, cell is much smaller, around 15μm in diameter, so we need to fabricate smaller end-effector to achieve successful manipulation and ensure the stability in the meantime. In this paper, we realize the manipulation by decreasing the adhesion forces and apply vibration to release a cell stably. We found the appropriate scale size for the end-effector is around 10μm diameter. It can not only grasp a 15μm cell but also bring little interference to the environment. As a demonstration of the proposed manipulation method, the repeated experiments were conducted to explore the dependence of adhesion force on the grasping distance, which can be helpful in the improvement of successful rate. Finally, we achieved automatic cell assembly using Hela cells.

Currently, explosive increase of smartphones with powerful built-in sensors such as GPS, accelerometers, gyroscopes and cameras has made the design of crowdsensing applications possible, which create a new interface between human beings and life environment. Until now, various mobile crowdsensing applications have been designed, where the crowdsourcers can employ mobile users (MUs) to complete the required sensing tasks. In this paper, emerging learning-based techniques are leveraged to address crowdsensing game with demand uncertainties and private information protection of MUs. Firstly, a novel economic model for mobile crowdsensing is designed, which takes MUs' resources constraints and demand uncertainties into consideration. Secondly, an incentive mechanism based on Stackelberg game is provided, where the sensing-platform (SP) is the leader and the MUs are the followers. Then, the existence and uniqueness of the Stackelberg Equilibrium (SE) is proven and the procedure for computing the SE is given. Furthermore, a dynamic incentive mechanism (DIM) based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach is investigated without knowing the private information of the MUs. It enables the SP to learn the optimal pricing strategy directly from game experience without any prior knowledge about MUs' information. Finally, numerical simulations are implemented to evaluate the performance and theoretical properties of the proposed mechanism and approach. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Neural networks with REctified Linear Unit (ReLU) activation functions (a.k.a. ReLU networks) have achieved great empirical success in various domains. Nonetheless, existing results for learning ReLU networks either pose assumptions on the underlying data distribution being e.g. Gaussian, or require the network size and/or training size to be sufficiently large. In this context, the problem of learning a two-layer ReLU network is approached in a binary classification setting, where the data are linearly separable and a hinge loss criterion is adopted. Leveraging the power of random noise perturbation, this paper presents a novel stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithm, which can provably train any single-hidden-layer ReLU network to attain global optimality, despite the presence of infinitely many bad local minima, maxima, and saddle points in general. This result is the first of its kind, requiring no assumptions on the data distribution, training/network size, or initialization. Convergence of the resultant iterative algorithm to a global minimum is analyzed by establishing both an upper bound and a lower bound on the number of non-zero updates to be performed. Moreover, generalization guarantees are developed for ReLU networks trained with the novel SGD leveraging classic compression bounds. These guarantees highlight a key difference (at least in the worst case) between reliably learning a ReLU network as well as a leaky ReLU network in terms of sample complexity. Numerical tests using both synthetic data and real images validate the effectiveness of the algorithm and the practical merits of the theory. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.
