The safe operation of most tokamaks, especially the largen sized ones, rely on the feedback control of the vertical displacement events (VDEs). However, most these feedback control systems are based on the axisymmetric VDE models. In this work, we use NIMROD simulations to study the roles of non-axisymmetric perturbations in free drift vertical displacement events on EAST. The high-n modes in non-axisymmetric VDE grow first, which drive the formation of high-n magnetic island chains. Subsequently, the magnetic island chains grow and overlap with each other, leading to the destruction of the magnetic flux surface, which induces a minor disruption and accelerates the start of the following major disruption. The magnetic island and the stochastic magnetic field allow the toroidally asymmetric poloidal plasma current to jet towards the hoop force direction, forming the finger and filamentary structures. Such a plasma current asymmetry strongly depends on the anisotropy in thermal transport coefficients. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The spectrum effect on the penetration of resonant magnetic perturbation(RMP) is studied with upgraded in-vessel RMP coils on *** poloidal spectrum of the RMP field,especially the amplitudes of 2/1 and 3/1 components,can be varied by the phase difference between the upper and lower coil rows,ΔΦ=Φ_(top)-Φ_(bottom),where Φ_(top)and Φ_(bottom)are the toroidal phases of the n=1 field of each coil *** type of RMP penetration is found to be related to ΔΦ,including the RMP penetration of either 2/1 or 3/1 RMP and the successive penetrations of 3/1 RMP followed by the 2/1 *** cases with penetration of only one RMP component,the penetration thresholds measured by the corresponding resonant component are close for variousΔΦ.However,the 2/1 RMP penetration threshold is significantly reduced if the 3/1 locked island is formed in *** changes in the rotation profile due to 3/1 locked island formation could partially contribute to the reduction of the 2/1 thresholds.

Improving the power supply resilience under extreme conditions is an important construction goal faced by modern distribution systems (DSs). In this paper, we develop a dynamic restoration framework for renewable DSs with cold-load pickup (CLPU), assisted by the reconfigurable converter-formed multi-terminal soft open point (R-SOP) to minimize the de-energized loads and renewables curtailment under extreme weather events. Traditional SOP often designed as symmetric capacity topology, which may limit the DS restoration quality by the converter capacity of symmetric SOPs. To address this, a dynamic network reconfiguration model of DSs is established that embedded with R-SOP, whose typical feature is the asymmetric converter capacity design while keeping the total port capacity unchanged compared with traditional SOP. On this basis, a multi-period distribution service restoration model is formulated integrating the converter reconfiguration of R-SOP, DS topology changes and coordinated actions of flexible resources to enhance the restoration level and improve the renewable energy utilization. Moreover, restoration strategies that ignore the CLPU phenomenon may face remarkable gap from the realistic system operating conditions. Accordingly, a frequency-constrained dynamic restoration model is proposed in a faster-timescale to respond to the CLPU and restore the DS in a reliable and adaptable manner. Numerical simulations on two modified IEEE test systems and an actual distribution system verify the effectiveness of the developed framework. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Model predictive thrust control (MPTC) is one of the most effective approaches for linear induction machine (LIM) drive system. It can achieve the optimization of multiple objectives with suitable weighting factors, such as low ripples and fast dynamic performance. Due to the longitudinal end effect, the selection of weighting factor becomes particularly important in LIM. However, the process of tuning the weighting factors in the objective function is very long and tedious. In this article, a dynamic fuzzy MPTC approach is proposed to solve the multi-objective problem for minimizing the flux and thrust ripples. Based on the fuzzy optimization technique, the tuning process of weighting factors can be transformed into a discrete membership function. A 'max-min' objective function of voltage vectors is employed to select a more balanced switch combination on the Pareto optimal-frontier for LIM. Furthermore, this approach can adapt to different operating conditions by adjusting objective priority of membership function. At last, comprehensive simulation and experimental results are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

Grid-forming VSCs based on Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control strategy provide primary frequency regulation and voltage support for weak grids or VSC-dominated grids. Analyzing the transient stability of VSG-VSCs under large disturbances is useful for maintaining the security of the grid. However, different control strategies in grid-forming converters will cause the VSC to operate at different transient processes, and this topic is little studied. In this paper, the impacts of Q-V controller on transient process under severe voltage drops are elaborately studied. In particular, it is shown that the change of controller will change the transient process of the VSC, which impacts the transient stability of VSG-VSCs. Simulations verify the validity of the transient stability analysis.

To make the wind power generation support inertial response becomes a necessary trend for the future development of wind power. However, the inertial response of wind power generator is very different from the synchronous generator (SG), which presents high order inertia response characteristics. The reason for the high order inertia response has not been revealed yet. To deal with it, we study the response process of the wind power generator from its power-internal voltage relationship. On this basis, we introduce the concept of the gearbox to investigate the difference between the wind power generator and the SG. It is revealed that the high order characteristics of the gearbox determine the high order inertia response. Then the characteristics, causes and impact factors of the high order inertia response of wind power generation are studied and concluded. Finally the time domain simulation validates the results.

Machine learning method has a broad application prospect in the power system transient stability assessment field. Still, there is a problem that it needs to use a large number of labeled samples to train the model, and time domain simulation takes a long time. Combining the semi-supervised learning method with the active learning method, a power system transient stability assessment method based on semi-supervised active learning is proposed to solve the problem. A clustering algorithm is used to select the initial samples, ensuring the initial model’s performance. Semi-supervised learning makes full use of the unlabeled sample pool and accelerate overall learning process. The simulation results on IEEE 10-machine, 39-bus system show that this method requires fewer labeled samples than traditional active learning methods, further improving assessment efficiency.

Invariant regimes of Spencer scaling law for magnetic compression of rotating FRC plasma

The scaling laws for the magnetic compression of a toroidally rotating field reversed configuration (FRC) have been investigated in this work. The magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations of the magnetic compression on rotating FRCs employing the NIMROD code [C. R. Sovinec et al., J. Comput. Phys. 195, 355 (2004)], are compared with the Spencer’s one-dimensional (1D) theory [R. L. Spencer et al., Phys. Fluids 26, 1564 (1983)] for a wide range of initial flow speeds and profiles. The toroidal flow can influence the scalings directly through the alteration of the compressional work as also evidenced in the 1D adiabatic model, and indirectly by reshaping the initial equilibrium. However, in comparison to the static initial FRC equilibrium cases, the pressure and the radius scalings remain invariant for the magnetic compression ratio Bw2/Bw1 up to 6 in presence of the initial equilibrium flow, suggesting a broader applicable regime of the Spencer scaling law for FRC magnetic compression. The invariant scaling has been proven a natural consequence of the conservation of angular momentum of both fluid and magnetic field during the dynamic compression process. Specific emitter identification (SEI), pivotal in military communication reconnaissance and electronic warfare, also plays a crucial role in civilian spectrum management. Traditional deep neural network methodologies for radiation source recognition face challenges including extended training durations, substantial energy demands, and minimal computational sparsity. In response, this study introduces an advanced deep spiking complex neural network model, leveraging the intrinsic properties of complex data for enhanced expressive power. This model incorporates a binary spike neural layer, significantly optimizing computational efficiency and reducing hardware resource requirements. The efficacy of this model is verified through the application to a real-world ADS-B signal dataset, where it demonstrates superior recognition accuracy of 89%, surpassing conventional lightweight frameworks such as ShuffleNet and MobileNet in parameter efficiency and inference speed.

Resilient Market Bidding Strategy for Mobile Energy Storage System Considering Transfer Uncertainty

The participation of Mobile Energy Storage Systems (MESS) in the electricity market can not only increase its own profit but also alleviate power transmission congestion and increase market clearing balance. However, relevant market trading strategies have yet to be explored. Accordingly, this paper proposes a resilient market bidding strategy for MESS considering the operation of transportation network. Firstly, this paper proposes a joint optimization framework of energy and transportation systems. In this framework, the upper layer is to make decisions on the space-time distribution and bidding strategy of MESS, and the lower layers is designed for the equilibrium of the transportation network and electricity market clearing. Subsequently, for the newly introduced transportation layer, this paper proposes a Logit-type Robust Stochastic User Equilibrium (LRSUE) to calculate the uncertain transfer time of MESS in the transportation network. Further, based on strong duality theory and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker Conditions (KKT) conditions, the two-layer model can achieve an efficient solution. Finally, IEEE14-bus system and a typical traffic network were provided to validate the proposed methods, demonstrating that MESS increase its revenue, alleviate power transmission congestion, and increase the electricity market clearing balance. © 2024, The Authors.
