Transmission reliability margin (TRM) is the amount of transmission capability ensuring that the transmission network is secure from the uncertainty in system operating condition. The accurate evaluation of TRM is of great importance in the calculation of available transfer capability (ATC). This paper presents a fast assessment method of TRM using stochastic response surface method (SRSM). The statistics and probability distributions of TRM can be accurately estimated with less computational cost. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by several case studies of the modified IEEE 30-bus standard test systems with wind farm integration.

With the application of digital control, the problem of one-step-delay appears. It limits the achievable control bandwidth. Compared with one-step-delay, minimized delay can achieve superior performance. However, it leads to the low-frequency aliasing phenomenon because sampling is not happened in the middle of either the turn-on or the turn-off times of IGBT. To weaken the influence of aliasing and reduce the total harmonics distortion (THD) of output current, the strategy of reducing the inductor current feedback coefficient by adjusting non-dominant poles is proposed. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the scheme.

In brushless doubly-fed generator (BDFG)-based ship shaft power generation system, the two back-to-back converters bring two common mode voltage sources and BDFG's two sets of stator windings provide several common mode current branches, which make the common mode circuit complicated. This paper have listed the common mode current loops and proposed an equivalent common mode circuit model based on lumped parameters for the system. The common mode impedances of the system have been acquired by measuring and calculating. The common mode current loop consists of two sets of stator windings and two back-to-back converters has been discussed with emphases. Simulation and experimental results agree with each other well and they verify the validity of the proposed model and the analysis about common mode circuit.

When in an ensemble of oscillatory units the interaction occurs through a diffusion-like manner, the intrinsic oscillations can be quenched through two structurally different scenarios: amplitude death (AD) and oscillation death (OD). Unveiling the underlying principles of stable rhythmic activity against AD and OD is a challenging issue of substantial practical significance. Here, by developing a low-pass filter (LPF) to track the output signals of the local system in the coupling, we show that it can revoke both AD and OD, and even the AD to OD transition, thereby giving rise to oscillations in coupled nonlinear oscillators under diverse death scenarios. The effectiveness of the local LPF is proven to be valid in an arbitrary network of coupled oscillators with distributed propagation delays. The constructive role of the local LPF in revoking deaths provides a potential dynamic mechanism of sustaining a reliable rhythmicity in real-world systems.

Voltage controls in multiple wind farms which are located closely interact with each other due to the electrical connection. This paper poposes a small-signal model to reveal the mechanism of voltage control interactions. The significant influences of the interactions on dynamic voltage stability are carefully discussed. Negative damping component caused by interactions deteriorate dynamic voltage stability under weak grid conditions. The analysis shows that two factors, grid strength and control parameters, have great influence on the interactions. The system stability can be threatened when large-scale wind farms integrate into a weak grid and control parameters is set unproper for the system operation. Finally, time domain simulation results are presented to validate the phenomenon and the effects of the two facors.

When power system operates in an insecure condition, corrective control measures should be takin in time to eliminate constrains violation. Few of current corrective control approaches take load fluctuation into consideration, which may result in invalid measures. The present paper proposes a novel corrective control approach which takes load fluctuation into consideration. Firstly, the probability distribution of state variables and sensitivity coefficient matrixes are obtained by probabilistic power flow. Then a corrective control model considering worst situation of branch power and bus voltage amplitude is proposed. Case study shows that the approach is valid and effective.

A test setup of an RF-driven negative hydrogen ion source is being constructed at HUST. It is operated at the typical pressure of 0.3 Pa, maximum RF power of 20 kW/1 MHz, with discharge pulse of 6–10 seconds. In order to diagnose the plasma parameters and evaluate the source performance, a highly integrated and automated Langmuir probe system has been developed in-house. It allows for multiple sweeping, mass data acquisition and automatic data evaluation in a fast diagnosis shot of several hundred milliseconds. Various analysis methods are investigated and compared for the ion density determination. Due to the low density and thick sheath in the plasma, OML theory is selected as the applicable one. Preliminary discharge and diagnosis experiments have been carried out in the experimental source. The plasma in the driver exhibits non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution with low density of 1017 m−3 and electron temperature of 59 eV at 20 kW/0.3 Pa.

DC current is an important parameter for the three-phase voltage source converter (VSC). It determines the thermal and reliability status of DC-link capacitor or battery. Analysis and prediction of DC current is associated with three-phase AC current and its ripple, together with the pulse-width-modulation (PWM) method. Based on the AC current ripple prediction method, this paper gives a general DC bus current prediction method with consideration of the AC current ripple. Comparison with simulation results shows the benefits of the method for DC bus current prediction. Experimental results are also provided to validate the prediction result. The predicted DC current ripple can match well with the experimental result.
