Preliminary Design and Analysis of the DC Reactor for the ITER Converter

The DC reactor is an important piece of equipment for restraining loop and ripple currents in the international thermonuclear experimental reactor （ITER） converter power supply system. As the reactor is operated at a steady state of 27.5 kA and needs to withstand a peak current of 175 kA, so the design of the DC reactor used in the ITER converter power supply system is necessary. A new water-cooling dry-type air-core reactor is designed in this work. The detailed structural parameters are calculated by theoretical formulas, and then the structure is optimized by electromagnetic simulation with ANSYS. Finally, thermal and dynamic stability analyses are performed to verify the temperature and stress at a rated current of 27.5 kA and pulsed current of 175 kA. The analysis results show that the temperature and stress meet the requirements of the ITER converter power supply system.

Generator regulation and wind power curtailment are two conflicting ways to deal with the inaccurate prediction and volatility of wind *** study focuses on planning the day-ahead schedule based on optimal trade-off between regulation of generators and wind *** to traditional economic dispatch methods,the proposed schedule is more robust and adaptive to multiple forecast scenarios instead of a single forecast *** works of this paper are as follows:First,an economic dispatch problem based on multiple scenarios is formulated with the objective of minimizing both generator regulation and wind ***,a forecast method for wind power scenarios is ***,the proposed model is verified by comparing with other dispatch models that are based on single forecast *** simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method with less wind curtailment,generator regulation,and operational *** addition,the penalty factors are set as parameters and the influences on the generators’regulation and wind curtailment are analyzed,providing the reference for system operators with different regulatory purposes.

A Novel Method for Rigorously Analyzing Beam Loading Effect Based on the Macro-Particle Model

The beam loading effect is a considerable issue for a high average current beam. We apply a novel method without utilizing the specious beam current value to rigorously analyze the beam loading effect in S-band linacs. By tracking every macro-particle＇s state and using the energy conservation law, power dissipated from the beam is calculated in each cell. In the new particle-based algorithm, the concept of equivalent beam current is proposed. Its value is not constant and it has a small variation through the accelerating structure. Also, we introduce the iteration algorithm as comparison and we find that the two algorithms coincide with each other very well.

Beam dynamics simulations of the injector for a compact THz source

Terahertz radiation has broad application prospects due to its ability to penetrate deep into many organic materials without the damage caused by ionizing radiations. A free electron laser （FEL）-based THz source is the best choice to produce high-power radiation. In this paper, a 14 MeV injector is introduced for generating high-quality beam for FEL, is composed of an EC-ITC RF gun, compensating coils and a travelling-wave structure. Beam dynamics simulations have been done with ASTRA code to verify the design and to optimize parameters. Simulations of the operating mode at 6 MeV have also been executed.

A permanent magnet electron beam spread system used for a low energy electron irradiation accelerator

The development of irradiation processing industry brings about various types of irradiation objects and expands the irradiation requirements for better uniformity and larger areas. This paper proposes an innovative design of a permanent magnet electron beam spread system. By clarifying its operation principles, the author verifies the feasibility of its application in irradiation accelerators for industrial use with the examples of its application in electron accelerators with energy ranging from 300 keV to 1 MeV. Based on the finite element analyses of electromagnetic fields and the charged particle dynamics, the author also conducts a simulation of electron dynamics in magnetic field on a computer. The results indicate that compared with the traditional electron beam scanning system, this system boosts the advantages of a larger spread area, non-power supply, simple structure and low cost, etc., which means it is not only suitable for the irradiation of objects with the shape of tubes, strips and panels, but can also achieve a desirable irradiation performance on irregular constructed objects of large size.

A 30 mm Wide DC-Driven Brush-Shaped Cold Air Plasma Without Airflow Supplement

This paper reports a cold atmospheric pressure DC-driven air plasma brush. Three stainless steel needles are symmetrically mounted on a slot shaped PVC slab to act as the elec- trodes. The brush driven by a direct current （DC） power supply can generate an air plasma glow up to 30 mm wide with no inert gas addition and no air flow supplement. The plasma glow appears uniform no matter what kinds of material are processed. The measured current and the simulated current all show that each pulsed discharge including two peaks always oc- curs for different gaps between electrodes. Emission spectra measurement result shows that the obtained rotational temperatures are 300 K and the vibrational temperatures are 2250 K. Some reactive species are presented in the plasma glow, which suggest that the proposed plasma brush is beneficial to practical applications.

In this paper, a modified laser-trigged vacuum switch(LTVS) is developed to optimize the triggered vacuum switch (TVS) and complies with the requirements of pulsed power technology. The comparison between a flat-electrode type switch and a multi-electrode type switch is discussed founded on the simulation and experimental results. The results show that the delay time of the modified switch can reach as low as 17 ns and the operating voltage ranges from 60V to 20KV. Finally, laser energy influencing the trigger characteristics is analyzed built on the thermionic mechanism.

Due to the space limitation and safety concerns, the non-same-phase anti-parallel connection structure is applied in the ITER Poloidal Field (PF) converter unit. Consequently, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) has been one of the main concerns in its design. And this paper mainly presents the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) analysis and design for ITER PF converter unit. At first, an isolated phase bus is designed for the shielding of the alternating magnetic field generated by the a.c. busbars. Its shielding effectiveness has been verified by the analysis and experimental test. Then, the stray magnetic field, which is generated by the converter bridges and very hard to be shielded, is analyzed and measured. And the results will provide useful inputs for the EMC design and test of the instrument and control (I&C) system. At last, a large coil pair, able to generate a uniform static magnetic field with high strength, is designed to evaluate the effects on electronic devices and to demonstrate the reliable and safe operation of the converters under strong stray magnetic field.

This paper investigates the production tolerances and variations of the lamination and permanent magnet on the cogging torque of the surface permanent magnet (SPM) machine with mass production. The finite element analysis (FEA) and experiment contrasted analysis method is adopted to deal with the additional component cogging torque, of the 12 slots 10 poles combination SPM machine, caused by production variation of the magnet, stator and rotor lamination. Its reveal that the eccentricity has small effect on the cogging torque, however, the manufacturing tolerances of lamination and inconsistency of permanent magnet have more significant influence on the cogging torque. This paper also propose the method by successively rotating each lamination of stator and rotor to suppress the additional components of the cogging torque.

The mechanism of electromagnetically induced acoustic emission (EMAE), a nondestructive testing method, is studied at a microscopic level from the viewpoint of energy. The relationship between the generation condition of EMAE and the drop of flow stress in metals under electrical loading is presented. A general theory which correlates acoustic emission with the electroplastic effect is obtained.
