This paper presents a centralized control scheme that coordinates parallel operations of large capacity power conditioning system (PCS) for battery energy storage system (BESS) in Micro-grid (MG). The theoretical analysis of the different operation modes are studied, including grid-connected mode, islanded mode and transfer mode. To improve the power sharing accuracy during the islanded operation, a parallel control strategy based on communication network is applied in large-capacity system. Moreover, a novel seamless transfer method is proposed to implement three-phase PCS transition between grid-connected mode and islanded mode. Simulation and experimental results are provided to validate the feasibility of the proposed control strategy.

This paper proposes a method to determine the optimal allocation of distributed superconducting magnetic energy storage system (D-SMES) capacity for enhancing the transient stability of power system. A kind of multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) is adopted to find the optimal allocation when a certain number of D-SMES devices are deployed in the certain location of the system. The paper presents the results of making tests of arcing contact made from copper-tungsten (Cu-W) composites containing different contents of tungsten: 80% and 85%. The Cu-W arcing contacts are tested in a SF 6 circuit breaker under the condition that the making velocity is 7m/s and the current peak is 18kA. The arcing time of every making test is measured. The electrical properties of the contacts are tested every 20 making operations and the mass loss is investigated after 100 operations. It is determined that the two types of Cu-W contacts have different electrical properties, in other words, their efficacy can be determined for the making as arcing contacts for an SF 6 circuit breaker.

Multiphase modular stator permanent magnet machine (MSPM) features fractional slot concentrated windings, negligible mutual phase inductance and thus the high fault tolerance. This paper intends to investigate the fault tolerance of a five phase 20-slot 22-pole MSPM with shaped permanent magnets. The faulty modes include one phase open-circuited, two non-adjacent phases open-circuited, two adjacent phases open-circuited, and one phase short-circuited. Optimal current control strategy is studied and applied to achieve maximum average torque without regard to torque ripple. Finite element analysis is performed to simulate the MSPM with all of the mentioned faulty conditions. Torque characteristics of the MSPM under healthy and faulty modes show that, the MSPM still possesses satisfactory electromagnetic performances in case of the faulty modes.

Several Physical models for describing magnetic resonant WPT(wireless power transmission) include coupling-model theory, the leakage inductance model and the mutual inductance model. Among these models, mutual inductance model separates the magnetic coupling coils from each other, simplifying the circuit analysis. But mutual inductance model treats the impact of the secondary side on the primary side as vaguely defined reflective impedance. To equivalently transforming the secondary branch to the primary side, the complex ratio transformer model is established, providing an intuitive physical picture in power transmission process, magnetic resonance (MR) and frequency splitting phenomenon. Finally, the corresponding experimental validation was presented.

Multiphase modular stator surface-mounted permanent magnet machine(MSPM) features non-sinusoidal back electromotive force. As a result, the d-q model of MSPM is not accurate enough due to the ignorance of space harmonics. Phase variable model is able to be used to perform simulation of electric machine with same accuracy level as the full finite element(FE) model with much less simulation time. This paper aims to figure out the difference between the MSPM with conventional permanent magnet(PM) and shaped PM, and the phase variable model is adopted. Rotor-position-dependent variables including inductance, back electromotive force and cogging torque are obtained from FE model. Apparent inductance and incremental inductance are respectively applied to take the saturation effect of the ferromagnetic materials into account. Simulation with phase variable model of MSPM is performed using SIMULINK, and the results show that the MSPM with shaped PM has a better torque characteristic.

In this paper, the current-carrying capacity of metalized electrode is studied. The sheet resistance of tested metalized aluminum electrode is 15Ω/□. High-speed camera is applied to record the state of the metalized aluminum electrode under pulsed current. The results show that the metalized aluminum electrode will fracture perpendicular to the direction of current. According to simulation analyses, joule heating and the electrodynamic force induced by magnetic pressure are the main causes for the fracture of metallized electrode.

This paper presents theoretical analysis and comprehensive simulations about average torque and pulsation torque of vernier permanent magnet (VPM) machine. A general torque equation is proposed which is used to analyze torque features and the parameters effect on torque performance of VPM machines in this paper. Based on the general torque equation and finite element algorithm, it is found that smooth torque is the inherent performance of VPM machines. Furthermore, It is demonstrated that the torque density of the VPM machine is larger than that of a regular commercial PM machine by almost 60%. All these advantages demonstrate that the VPM machines can obtain much better steady and dynamic drive performance. In order to validate theoretical analysis, a prototype is built, and more experiments will be available.

The sympathetic inrush is a hot issue in the field of differential protection research, due to its characteristic of concealment, diversity, and complexity. The mal-operation of differential protection probably caused by sympathetic inrush is still a difficult problem to be solved. This paper proposed a new sympathetic inrush detection method based on the on-line magnet flux calculating by integrating the measuring voltages on the tips of transformer. This method can completely overcome the negative influence of CT saturation on the differential protection from principle. The EMTDC-based simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed method and also verify that this method would not decrease the sensitivity of differential protection under the condition of internal fault.
