Battery energy storage system (BESS) is one of the important solutions to improve the accommodation of large-scale grid connected photovoltaic (PV) generation and increase its operation economy. However, the strong intra-day volatility and severe curtailment of PV power sets a high demand of BESS charge-rate that is a key factor in operation models but ignored in current planning researches. This paper proposes a BESS capacity configuration model for PV generation systems which takes BESS's ability to (dis)charge exceeds its rated power into account. The best charge-rate and power & energy capacity of BESS are optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Through an analysis of the annual output statistics of PV power station in the northwest of China, the results show that when considering the high charge-rate of BESS, the optimal BESS capacity configuration rises and comprehensive income of the PV-BESS system will increase. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Design of IEC 61970 based information exchange model for coordinated automatic voltage control among multi control centers

Standardization is the development tendency of information exchange among control centers. Based on the standard in IEC 61970, an information exchange model suitable for coordinated automatic voltage control (CAVC) among multi control centers is proposed. Firstly, the contents of information flow of CAVC is analyzed and the definition of coordinated control model for information exchange is given;then the common information model is extended and a standardized information model for CAVC is designed;and then based on component interface specification, a standardized information exchange interface for CAVC is designed and its architecture for information exchange as well as its information exchange procedure are given. The presented information exchange model possesses wide application prospect in the implementation of information exchange among multi CAVC control centers for future smart grids.

Zero impedance branch based substation three-phase nonlinear state estimation method

A substation three-phase nonlinear state estimation method based on zero impedance branches is presented in order to eliminate topology and analogy errors at substation level and accordingly enhance the control center state estimation reliability and accuracy. Measurements from different apparatus are utilized in substation, such as remote terminal unit (RTU) and phasor measurement unit (PMU) three-phase data. A breaker-oriented nonlinear three-phase state estimation model is established on Kirchoff's current law (KCL) , in which analog bad data and topology bad error identification can be decoupled, realizing real-time three-phase unbalanced degree monitoring at substation level. It is shown that this method is very fast and easy for implementation and can provide high measurement redundancy and reliable results. The test results show that the proposed approach is very effective. © 2011 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

In the annular power distribution system, short-circuit fault of bus-bars will do fatal harm to aircraft, and it is necessary to protect the ring-net bus-bars. Protecting bus-bars has to meet the requirements that protection devices do not refuse to operate and backup protection devices do not act incorrectly. This paper builds a model about the annular power distribution system and stimulates the fault system based on MATlab. According to the fault features, directional blocking pilot protection is put forward. The results prove that the new method can achieve automatic isolation of the bus-bar at fault, ensures the safety of aircraft power distribution system, and it is of great importance to improve the reliability of aircraft power distributing. © 2011 IEEE.

Analysis on the Influence of Energy Router on the Optimal Operation of Distribution Network

The energy router is an energy exchange device based on the advanced power electronic technique. Using flexible and dynamic control strategies, it is able to facilitate the power flow distribution management, voltage improvement, network monitoring and fault isolation for distribution network. In the energy internet vision, the energy router will become an important hardware foundation of the future distribution network. The analysis method and model of the energy router is of great significance to realize the optimal operation of distribution system. This paper proposed the steady state power flow model of the energy router embedded distribution network and formulates the model of optimal power flow (OPF) problem. Case studies were carried out on a modified IEEE 33 bus distribution system. The role of the energy router on improving the system voltage level was discussed. The results show the energy router is able to regulate bus voltages of the system are promoted and system operation status are greatly improved. © 2017 Chin. Soc. for Elec. Eng.

A fast electric field integral in time domain using the uneven discretization and the implicit scheme is proposed to calculate the switching electromagnetic transient at a substation. The switching transient currents and the resultant radiated electromagnetic field are calculated. The propose d approach has the strength to model the bus system at a substation with a more complicated and realistic configuration that is difficult to simulate using the circuit-based method, because all the electromagnetic couplings within the bus system are included globally. The proposed method might be one of good candidates to predicate the EMI level at a substation. © 2012 IEEE.

Shielding failure of lightning is the key problem for safe operation of transmission lines. Using Electro-geometry Method to simulate the process of shielding failure, large currents hit a conducting wire hardly, however actually they did sometimes. So, Leader Progression Method is used to analyze the relationship between amplitude of lightning current and other parameters, such as wires position, ground tilt angle and so on. © 2010 University of Cagliari.

Lightning is a major cause of power interruptions in power transmission lines. Nowadays the Leader Progression Model is an advanced method to evaluate the shielding failure probability of transmission lines. Calculating the surface electric field on phase conductors and ground wires precisely is important, because the surface electric field has great effect on the upward leader inception. In this paper, the influence of lightning current and some other factors on surface electric field were analyzed. © 2011 IEEE.

Effects of morphology on movement of space charge packet in polyethylene

Polyethylene is a major kind of internal insulating material. This paper measured the space charge phenomenon in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) by the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) method and observed the space charge packet. This research got the LDPE films of different morphology by different annealing rate and discussed the effect of morphology and electrical field stress changing on space charge packet's moving velocity. The research shows that morphology of LDPE affects the velocity of space charge packet remarkably;bigger crystallinity results in lower velocity of space charge packet. The intensity of electrical field has little affection to the velocity. The average mobility of different crystallinity under different electric field was calculated. The relationship between crystallinity and mobility was found. The results further demonstrate there are inherent relationships among higher crystallinity, more space charge accumulation, lower mobility and deeper trap depth. Lower mobility and deeper trap depth have a monotone relationship.

power grid and communication network, which depends on each other to provide proper functionality, are becoming more and more coupled together. Failure of a fraction of nodes in communication networks may lead to a failure even a cascade of failures in power grid. Wide area protection is highly dependent on communication. The failure of communication in some part of wide area protection system will affect the realization of the function to prevent cascading outages and result in serious consequences. Based on Manchester, OPA and hidden failure cascading failure models and considered the feature of relay protection, an improved cascading failure model is established. Then it is used to analyze the dynamic process of communication fails in wide area protection system and IEEE 30 bus system is employed to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. Results show that communication failure in protection system will accelerate the cascading outages of power grid. Effective solutions to reduce the communication risk are discussed. The work of this paper is availab.e for reference to analyze the process of cascading outages and design protection system preventing cascading outages.
