Conceptual model of a healthy city learning from the Covid 19 pandemic in Indonesia

The Covid 19 global pandemic has brought changes to many aspects of human life as it spread across the globe. The dramatic and widespread impact of the pandemic has necessitated the revision of many principles regarding the organization of social life, access to health care, public safety and urban planning. The emergence of previous conceptual models of urban planning was motivated by a paradigm shift in urban planning. There have been previous models describing the relationship between cities, the built environment and health. But there is no healthy city planning model that describes infectious diseases such as the Covid 19 phenomenon. Therefore, this paper will formulate a conceptual model of a healthy city learning from the experience of the Covid 19 pandemic. This research uses a mix method research method that combines qualitative and quantitative research. In formulating the concept of healthy cities, learning from the experience of the Covid 19 pandemic, the analysis was carried out in 2 stages, namely: analyzing urban changes due to the impact of the pandemic and analyzing the factors that determine a healthy city. The results of the development of a healthy city conceptual model obtained 4 components in forming a healthy city, namely urban health, urban environment, urban form and healthy urban planning. Healthy urban planning explains the process of forming a healthy city. In urban health there are 18 variables. Learning from the Covid 19 pandemic, health behavior, social integration and support, access to health services, quality of health facilities, social life, sense of community (social capital), primary health system, secondary health system, early warning system, adaptive social protection is a novelty in urban health and its position is very important to create a resilient healthy city in the future. Performance Based Design (PBD) makes the design process easier to achieve optimal energy efficiency in office towers. Building performance is impacted by various factors, including decisions related to the shape of the building, its orientation, the building envelope, and the building façade. This study aims to determine the building energy consumption by applying the office building's secondary skin during the hottest season in the hot and climate region. A design solution was obtained by utilizing Sefaira with ASHRAE 90.1 – 2013-based parameters for the building performance analysis application. Building in the hot and humid climate region requires energy for cooling due to the long solar durations. The building facade then is the main architectural element that needs to design properly. Facade design, including the building height, orientation, shadowing, and wall window ratio, define the use of electric devices per square meter. The results showed the building's energy use before the special treatment was 126 kWh/m2/yr from the supposed 79 kWh/m2/yr. The design process that responds to the climate will then influence the building form and massing. It is the initial step for building envelope before requiring mechanical assistance to achieve thermal comfort. The design experiment later takes a 3-m-long balcony for all facades, reduce envelope area with compact form have proven to reduce the building energy use. Those experiments later found able to reduce energy use to 57 kWh/m2/yr or 69 kWh/m2/yr obtained. © The Author(s) 2025.

Increasing urbanization and rapid resource depletion have forced authorities to shift from the traditional linear system of take-use disposal to a circular system of agricultural pratices. Circular Economy (CE) is a sustainable development approach focused on managing waste generated from the production and consumption of goods, emphasizing the principles of reduction, reuse, and recycling. CE has garnered significant attention in the agricultural sector due to its crucial role inhuman life and its implications for the livelihoods of farmers. Recently, scholars have examined the organization, impact, and measurement of CE implementation in the agricultural sector. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a comprehensive review of various implementations of CE worldwide, taking into account diverse regional characteristics. A systematic literature review was performed, encompassing three hundred and eight publications. These were categorized according to the criteria of urban areas, peri-urban areas, rural areas, and their intersections or combinations. This study identified the intersection of research themes related to CE implementation in each category to reveal the differences in CE intensity across these areas. Twelve categories were identified: raw materials, circularity, waste, processes, contributions, sector/subsector, dimensions, object type, regional aspects, procedures, purpose, and policy/systems. Furthermore, a hypothetical analysis was conducted to assess the benefits, challenges, ease of implementation, and level of circularity associated with CE practices. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders, helping them understand how the interconnectedness of regional aspects and urban development influences the utilization of local resources. Region-based CE policies need to be developed to ensure the continuity of cycles that occur between regions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has a spirit to become a Conservation and International Reputation University is realized through strategic missions. One of the conservation-oriented implementation programs is H-BAT (Green, Clean and Healthy) program. In its implementation, there is a problem, namely the achievement of H-BAT program has not been maximized during the last 3 years in assessment. The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify of the potential and character of environmental support in the work units;(2) to determine the achievement of the indication of a green campus based on the assessment indicators on H-BAT program. This research was carried out in four stages: (1) Data collection;(2) Spatial data processing;(3) Non Spatial data processing;(4) Analysis (ecological, technical standards);The results achieved in June 2020 are as follows: FT got 87,50%, FE got 85,87%, FMIPA got 81,52%, BUHK got79,49%, FIP got 73,91%, LP3 got 69,23%, LP2M got 63,46%, FIS got 60,33%,PPS got 57,07%, FIK got 56,52%, FH got 52,72%, FBS got 49,46%, TIK got 40,38%, BPB got 34,62%, Library got 30,13%, Archive got 17,31%. From these results, it can be seen that there is a lack of maximum achievement due to, among others, the lack of guidance and technical assistance in the management of the unit. So it is necessary to complete governance guidelines and technical assistance that are more intensive in unit governance to achieve the goals of UNNES as a green campus. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Prunus napaulensis (Ser.) Steud., colloquially known as Jungali aaru in Nepali, represents an underutilized wild fruit tree species with a distribution spanning from Nepal's temperate eastern to western regions. This study assessed the ecology, ethnobotany, and potential optimized uses of P. napaulensis in Nepal, which are beneficial for conserving its genetic resources. We conducted a systematic field survey to gather ethnobotanical and ecological data, directly involving 106 respondents through snowball sampling methods across eight districts, comprising two districts in the eastern, three in the central, and three in the western regions of Nepal. We found P. napaulensis to thrive within the altitudinal range of 1500-3100 m in temperate Nepal. Notably, this species serves seven different purposes in Nepal, with the highest usage being in fuelwood (FL = 89.62%) followed by fruits (FL = 76.42%). Furthermore, this species is used to prepare 18 economically valuable food products in China and India. Despite its evident potential for economic utility, this species remains underutilized within Nepal, rendering it moderately vulnerable to access through rapid vulnerability assessment methods. Consequently, our study supports for the sustainable utilization of this species to ensure the conservation of its genetic resources and enable local communities to harness its economic benefits effectively.

Inclusivity of virtual tourism destinations: An immersive netnographic study of Indonesian wheelchair users in virtual nature-based destinations

Exclusion-inclusion theory has received attention in various disciplines in the actual world. However, whether and how virtual tourism experiences can affect the degree of exclusion-inclusion for people who use wheelchairs has not been discussed. Driven by an interpretivist paradigm, this study employed immersive netnography. Ten Indonesian were observed and interviewed to understand their virtual nature-based experiences. They used virtual reality head month and explored a few virtual destinations. The findings suggest that the combination of virtual tourism destinations' aspects can influence the inclusivity of their travel experiences. A better understanding of these findings will aid in developing inclusive tourism for wheelchair users through virtual tourism. This paper provides insights into the current and future scope of inclusive e-tourism. © 2025 The Authors

On the development of tourism within a settlement, its sustainability depends on how to make the lowest possible environment impact and provide long-term economic and social benefits to local communities. This paper describes the results of analysis on a settlement where the tourism activities developed in it. The principal of eco-district was the main theory used in the analysis in order to accelerate district-scale sustainability. Eco-district is the principle of urban planning that aims to integrate the objectives of sustainable development and reduce the ecological impact of the development. The case study was located in Setu Babakan, a lakeside and a historical tourism district in South Jakarta, Indonesia. The focus of the study was on the physical condition of the open spaces and activities inside them. In some tourism destination areas, many of the attractions took place in open spaces. The results of the evaluation were several recommendations for the development concept of open spaces in the historical and ecotourism district of Setu Babakan which hopefully will guarantee it's sustainability in the future. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The objective of this study was to determine the determinants between Community-Based Total Sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in toddler at communities near rivers. This study used a quantitative approach with cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 76 mothers who have toddler with the sampling technique by accidental sampling. Primary data obtained directly from interviews using questionnaires and direct observation to respondents. The independent variable was Community-Based Total Sanitation which includes the behavior of open defecation, drinking water and food management, household waste management, and household waste water management. The results showed that only household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p value 0,0000;OR 5,2), while, open defecation (p value 0.118), drinking water and household food management (p value 1,000), household waste management (p value 0,979) was not related to the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Toddlers in households with poor wastewater treatment were 5,2 times more likely to have diarrhea. The conclusion is household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers, so that innovative efforts are needed so that the community improves their waste management. This is useful for preventing the occurrence of diarrhea in toddlers. © 2022

Territoriality and the market system - Adat land vs. state regulations on land matters in Bali

This article discusses in detail the eroding impact of the basic regulation on land matters and Agrarian principles (BRLMAP), and the implications of the modern planning system imposed by the Indonesian state over the Balinese territorial principles of the Adat-customary law. The aspirations underlining market-based practices of the BRLMAP and the communal practices of the Adat became the fundamental cause for the emergence of spatial competition among diverse interests in land acquisition and use. The overriding economic interests promoted by the state and its development partners through Bali's tourist industry, recognition of individual rights, the establishment of a land market, and dominant state control over land, has led to the elimination of the Adat land tenure, disintegration of tanah Adat-Adat land, and weakening of the Desa Adat Institution as the community representative over land matters. These institutions are critical elements, not only to the sustenance of Adat territoriality, but to Balinese culture as a whole. The idea of state systems supposedly balancing the differing development attitudes through 'neutral' professional governance is therefore in doubt. Development capital, the state, and the 'public interest' as represented by the Desa Adat therefore remain a conflictual set of practices, which demand resolution. This study is based on phenomenon of shophouse's facade transformation in cities which is made after shophouses are built for business identity. Viewed from sustainability perspective where 'sustainability' is defined as able to maintain continuation with minimal long-term effect on the environment - the changes on shophouses building façade materials is indicated as energy wasting problems. The study was conducted in Bandung, Indonesia. The first part of this study is intended to draw typology out of the quantity changes of building facade and to trace the driving factors for its typology. The Conclusion of this study shows a high requirement for facade transformation which is categorized as Minor, Medium and Major changes that forced by inadequacy of the original design in representing the accommodated function, activities or products. The next part of the study aims to provide several recommendations and innovative solution to prevent excessive use of building materials as well as energy waste that goes against sustainability principles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
