Sustainable Hybrid Village: Regeneration of Settlement in Jatinegara, Indonesia

Over the past few decades, cities have experienced severe social and economic pressures, which have a disproportionate impact on the urban environment. As a result, the quality environment has decreased, which is characterized by increased CO2 emissions and energy operating costs. Sustainable city development is considered as a step to create a pleasant environment for the community. Therefore, this research is essential to do to regenerate settlements in improving urban quality. This study aims to find a model for developing sustainable hybrid settlements in densely populated areas. The research method with the simulation method uses the Urban Modeling Interface device with three parameters. The modeling results obtained a Floor Area Ratio (FAR) value of 0.43 with a total land area of ± 427,233 m2. The FAR value produces an operational energy value of 3,983kwh / m2 / year and an embodied energy value of 216 kWh / m2 / year. This value is very high from 240 kWh / m2 / year as a standard for energy use. The amount of mobility in the aspect of walkability is 21-68, and 21-69 for the value of Bikeability. The results of this simulation indicate that the residential area in Jatinegara is not yet sustainable.

Urban Flood Resilience through Spatial Plan in Bandung City, Indonesia

According to New Urban Agenda, the spatial plan has been promoted as an instrument to strengthen urban resilience. In the context of urban flood resilience, flood management measures could be incorporated into the spatial plan to address inundation and flood risks. However, the existence of a spatial plan does not necessarily reduce inundation and flood risks due to the ineffectiveness of spatial plan implementation and/or insufficient flood management measures. This study aims to examine flood management measures within Bandung's spatial plan in achieving urban flood resilience in the future. We combine flood management measures framework and characteristics of urban system resilience as an analytical framework. The effectiveness of flood management measures is highly associated with the topographic characteristics and the combination of measures selected in suitable locations. We use thematic analysis to identify flood management measures in Bandung's Spatial Plan and compare the result with the spatial distribution of future inundation and flood risks data from the previous study. We reveal that flood management measures in Bandung's spatial plan have not been selected and located based on ecological constraints and future inundation information. This study demonstrates the importance of flood risks information to formulate an effective spatial plan for urban flood resilience.

Biogas : Alternative energy on supporting environmentally coffee shop in Samosir Island

Samosir Island is one of tourism destination in Indonesia and there was an increasing of coffee shop number. This research tries to investigate how much financial profit received by coffee shop if it use biogas as a new energy source. This research had been conducted from April to June 2018. Research parameter were production costs, income, revenue, Benefit Cost Ratio, Revenue Cost Ratio, Return On Investment, Break Even Point, and identify opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses by SWOT analysis to identify whether the community of Samosir is willing to use biogas. The results of financial analysis namely production cost IDR 1,964,500; income of IDR.4,360,000; revenue of IDR. 2,303,000; B/C (%) was 79.7; R/C (%) was 151; ROI (year) of 1.6; BEP Price was IDR. 5,302; BEP Production of 361 glass. By SWOT Analysis it was known that development strategies are taken place include socialize biogas technology, benefits of biogas on energy, fertilizer and soil quality to the community, benefits of biogas in saving fuel purchases and providing biogas stock devices on biogas group. The result showed that biogas was worthy of being used as a new energy source on the coffee shop business on Samosir Island.

Educational Tourism Potentials of Argapura Village, Bogor Regency towards Pongkor UNESCO Global Geopark

Argapura is one of the village areas in Cigudeg Subdistrict which has potential unique characteristics for a tourist destination, namely Geopark. Argapura Village is one of the Pongkor National Geopark development villages covering 15 sub-districts in Bogor Regency. Pongkor National Geopark is a unitary space with geodiversity, culturediversity and biodiversity which aims to preserve and protect the wealth of natural resources. The geopark is located very close to tourism activities, but the existing tour has not specifically touched the educational aspect (educational tourism). Educational tourism is a tourism packaging program that is loaded with educational values in each of its activities. Argapura Village needs to be developed educational tourism aimed at all visitors. The objectives of this study were to identify and analyze the potential of educational tourism objects in Argapura Village, and to arrange educational tourism program in Argapura Village. Data collection through literature studies, field surveys and interviews with stakeholders. Data analysis using tables and described based on the criteria of educational values and geopark elements. The results of study showed that Argapura Village has two main potential attractions/educational tourism objects, namely Angklung Gubrag and Gudawang Caves. Angklung Gubrag is an educational tourism attraction that has high cultural, historical and religious values. Gudawang Cave is an educational tourism object in the form of karst ecosystem. In addition to the both of tourism objects, there are several other potential tourism objects and characteristics of the Geopark. The Argapura Village educational tourism was compiled includes two main programs, namely the half-day and the full-day visiting programs.

This research aims to find the spectrum of a park service scope from two city parks in Denpasar, a densely populated city. The city parks in study are Lapangan Puputan Badung and Lapangan Puputan Margarana as city public facilities of Denpasar – Bali that is said to improve citizen quality of life and environment as well. However, this research focuses to see how city parks in Bali serve their users. This study uses a survey research method. Sample of respondents are chosen using accidental sampling technique with questionnaire as media of data collection. Data series include, users' age, frequency of visit, activities, and domicile. Research findings are analysed spatially and descriptively as well. Result shows that most visitors are young people who spend time mostly for exercising and other recreational activities. It is also interesting to see that both city park users are regular visitors. They visit the parks at least 1 to 2 time per week and spend 1 to 2 hours in there. The parks users mostly come from densely populated areas. That shows the importance of city parks as complement to a city. However, as a city that going to smart city, ICT has not been recognized much. As conclusion, the spectrum of city parks service scope of Denpasar still ranging in traditional functions of public green open space. A city park serves a man-made nature-like place for people to get refresh within an urban landscape setting.

Flexural Strength Test For Concrete Beam With Mild Steel and Reinforcing Iron

Mild steel in buildings tends to only be used as a roof frame. The phenomenon in the field that lightweight steel roof truss can be combined with mortar mixture. In general this union is found on the walls of the construction of the red stone horses. This phenomenon is captured and applied dynamically, creatively, and innovatively with new idioms. Mild steel can be used as a beam reinforcement. This research is important in order to find alternative reinforcement of beams other than iron and strong beam reinforcement. This study aims to determine the ratio of flexural strength between concrete from mild steel reinforcement and concrete from steel reinforcement. This study uses a concrete flexural strength test and simple test beam method. The test beam is loaded and centered directly. Press testing machine is used as a flexural test device. The machine is equipped with two support beams and one load beam, load construction, and support blocks. Six beams are used as specimens. Test objects are made of different reinforcement. Concrete beams are made from a cross section of 600 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm, used reinforcing iron diameter of 6 mm, and amounting to three (first test object). Concrete beams are made from a cross section of 600 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm, mild steel is used with the profile shape C73.35.10 mm, and there are three pieces (second test object). This study concluded that the test beam was made from a cross section of 600 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm. and mild steel (profile C73.35.10 mm) has twice the maximum flexural strength compared to 600 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm cross section beam and reinforcing iron (6 mm diameter).

Bjarke Ingels and the Return of Representation: A Challenge to the Post-Critical

In the 2000s, the post-critical position emerged as a rejection of architectural criticism. Post-critics prophesied the merging of design and discourse, and the emergence of self-explanatory works of architecture. This paper argues that Danish architect Bjarke Ingels's rise to global stardom disproves the tenets of post-criticality,since Ingels successfully raises all the "un-architectural" representational strategies from the dead. Similarly, Hans Ibelings's notion of a contemporary "Supermodernism" is dismissed. In Ingels's architectural production - particularly his way of metamorphosing photographic pictures into entire facades - we witness a resurfacing of postmodernist strategies first promulgated by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. Contextualism and replication emerge as two postmodern themes that continue to haunt architecture and urbanism, in spite of the "exorcism" performed by post-critics. Lastly, this paper suggests that we need to reexamine the notions of postmodernity and postmodernism through the theoretical lenses provided by Reinhold Martin and Hal Foster, respectively.

The impact of building configurations and anthropogenic heat on daily urban air temperature cycles

Urban air temperature reflects the impact of urbanization on thermal and dynamics of urban climate. To understand the physical mechanism of building configurations and anthropogenic heat on daily urban air temperature cycles, an improved lumped urban air temperature model was provided. The surface energy balance equation for the improved and previous lumped urban air temperature model were compared. The effective depth of thermal mass and sub-surface temperature of urban surfaces in the previous model can be determined, which are usually chosen from model studies. These two parameters have a significant impact on the thermal storage. The models were evaluated and applied to the city of Hong Kong. Thermal storage is shown to have significant impact on the amplitude and phase term of daily air temperature cycle. Moreover, the building configurations can affect the solar radiation gain and redistribution in the sub-facets, which indirectly influenced the urban air temperature. The results show that the ventilation rate, building height and plan area ratio play important roles on daily cycle of urban air temperature, while the anthropogenic heat plays a less significant role. The main distinction of the improved model is its simplicity and less computation cost for practice use for engineers and urban planners. Two important parameters are emphasized, relative convective heat transfer number, lambda, and time constant, tau. The two parameters provide some insights on how to control the urban thermal environment in an engineering way.

We investigate the development of pre-time signal intersection operating systems for isolated intersections using Fuzzy Logic models. The traffic signal system setting in Indonesia has been using the Indonesia Road Capacity Manual model 1997, for example it is installed at the intersection in large cities in Indonesia. The development of the Fuzzy Logic model is focused on improving the performance of the signaled intersection, using a combination of numerical variable analysis used by IRCM 1997, and the linguistic or traffic behavior variable as the basis of the Fuzzy Logic model study. The combination of the two variables in the Fuzzy Logic model analysis is expected to improve the intersection performance. The Fuzzy Logic model process involves the Membership Function theory as the basis for the confidence level of the traffic variable to be surveyed, and the Fuzzy Inference Engine to measure the choice of combinations of variables that will be selected to make the best performance of the intersection. The geometric of intersection must be control as it involves the input of research data, especially on the condition of the intersection legs and markers of motor cycle-special stopping places, which is a potential of a traffic violation by traveller. The model is verified with fuzzified data from 2017 traffic research survey in Bandung. As an illustration of the majority of intersection setting with an isolated pre-time operating system, there are 60 intersection points or 85% of the total 71 intersections available. This would be a potentially major problem when performance improvements is not carried out. The final analysis shows that the number of vehicles queues decreases while the traffic flows passing through the intersection increases, therefore fuzzy logic model is expected to contribute and to give alternative handling for intersection performance with pre-time operational.

Sixty "Mega Cities" would emerge by 2015 catering of 600 million populations, and were threatened by the climate change, because of cyclones, flooding, etc. Jakarta became a metro region covering Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok and Cianjur. Jakarta metropolitan faced the very high population growth, urban sprawling, traffic jams, flooding, green open space reduction, environmental degradation, urban slums and illegal street hawkers. Flooding and traffic congestions were the two most important issues to solve. SWOT analysis and urban design solutions were produced to create a sustainable solution. Related to transportation issues, Singapore Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) concept was evaluated. Meanwhile the Netherlands' polder concept as well as Singapore's Integrated Water Management were also analyzed. The development of above ground MRT as well as Busway could be developed to connect Jakarta Metropolitan Region. The networks were developed on the main toll road networks. The MRT and Busway would eventually replace the need of automobile use in the future. The Transit - Oriented - Development (TOD) with high density can be suggested to be concentrated nearby the MRT and Busway interchange stations. The Netherlands' polder and were adopted for urban' low-lying lands in Jakarta Metropolitan Region, A polder system was defined as the Integrated Man-made Drainage System consisting Dikes, Drains, Retention Ponds, Outfall Structures or Pumping Stations. The polder system was proposed to be extended to Tangerang and Bekasi area.
