Bjarke Ingels and the Return of Representation: A Challenge to the Post-Critical

In the 2000s, the post-critical position emerged as a rejection of architectural criticism. Post-critics prophesied the merging of design and discourse, and the emergence of self-explanatory works of architecture. This paper argues that Danish architect Bjarke Ingels's rise to global stardom disproves the tenets of post-criticality,since Ingels successfully raises all the "un-architectural" representational strategies from the dead. Similarly, Hans Ibelings's notion of a contemporary "Supermodernism" is dismissed. In Ingels's architectural production - particularly his way of metamorphosing photographic pictures into entire facades - we witness a resurfacing of postmodernist strategies first promulgated by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. Contextualism and replication emerge as two postmodern themes that continue to haunt architecture and urbanism, in spite of the "exorcism" performed by post-critics. Lastly, this paper suggests that we need to reexamine the notions of postmodernity and postmodernism through the theoretical lenses provided by Reinhold Martin and Hal Foster, respectively.

This study is based on phenomenon of shophouse's facade transformation in cities which is made after shophouses are built for business identity. Viewed from sustainability perspective where 'sustainability' is defined as able to maintain continuation with minimal long-term effect on the environment - the changes on shophouses building façade materials is indicated as energy wasting problems. The study was conducted in Bandung, Indonesia. The first part of this study is intended to draw typology out of the quantity changes of building facade and to trace the driving factors for its typology. The Conclusion of this study shows a high requirement for facade transformation which is categorized as Minor, Medium and Major changes that forced by inadequacy of the original design in representing the accommodated function, activities or products. The next part of the study aims to provide several recommendations and innovative solution to prevent excessive use of building materials as well as energy waste that goes against sustainability principles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The increase in the transmission of the COVID-19 disease, creating an effort to prevent transmission by controlling total of space users in the Dean's Office Building, University of Bengkulu to avoid overcrowding users of space in buildings. The control has an impact on the increasing number of space users in the transition space of outdoor (terraces, hallways, corridors) in the eight Dean's Office Buildings. The thermal comfort of the outdoor transition space needs to be considered because the post-pandemic adaptation behavior causes the change in the function of the transition area as buffer between outdoor and indoor spaces, is currently becoming a waiting room for entering buildings with uncertain waiting times. In addition, University of Bengkulu is located in coastal area with air temperatures during the day between 30 °C- 34 °C and wind speed ranging from 0-2,2 m/s. The purpose of this research is to determine the perception of thermal comfort of space users in the transition space, Dean's Office Building, University of Bengkulu. Measurement data in the form of air temperature, air humidity, and wind speed at the peak of the dry month were carried out at 08.00-16.00 for 10 working days and interview data on the perception of thermal comfort of space users. Interview and measurement data will be inputted on the Ray-man measuring instrument to obtain the PET, PMV, SET values. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This research aims to find the spectrum of a park service scope from two city parks in Denpasar, a densely populated city. The city parks in study are Lapangan Puputan Badung and Lapangan Puputan Margarana as city public facilities of Denpasar - Bali that is said to improve citizen quality of life and environment as well. However, this research focuses to see how city parks in Bali serve their users. This study uses a survey research method. Sample of respondents are chosen using accidental sampling technique with questionnaire as media of data collection. Data series include, users' age, frequency of visit, activities, and domicile. Research findings are analysed spatially and descriptively as well. Result shows that most visitors are young people who spend time mostly for exercising and other recreational activities. It is also interesting to see that both city park users are regular visitors. They visit the parks at least 1 to 2 time per week and spend 1 to 2 hours in there. The parks users mostly come from densely populated areas. That shows the importance of city parks as complement to a city. However, as a city that going to smart city, ICT has not been recognized much. As conclusion, the spectrum of city parks service scope of Denpasar still ranging in traditional functions of public green open space. A city park serves a man-made nature-like place for people to get refresh within an urban landscape setting. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Design of fishing boat for Pelabuhanratu fishery ran as one of effort to increase production of capture fisheries. The fishing boat should be proper for the characteristic of its service area, as;capacity of fishing boat up to 60 GT, the fishing boat has minimum 6 fish holds and location of fish hold in the middle body, the fishing boat hull has the bilge keel plate, and the material of hull fishing boat to be made of wooden, steel, aluminium, or fiberglass. Main dimesion of fishing boat is Length Over All = 25.436 m, Breadth = 4.55 m, Draft = 1.6 m, Speed = 12.5 knots. The research had been known every thing that will be supporting the production of capture fisheries like;amount of fish production = 25.030 ton per day, the fishing port capacity approximately 268.957GT per day, the area of fishing port < 30 hectares, the zone of fish processing industry had not completed, therefore all data research result less than standard of Oceanic Fising Port. So Pelabuhanratu National Fishing Port can not be changed to Oceanic Fishing Port.

Zero emission and clean energy concept for campus area in hot-humid tropical climate

Purpose - This research is oriented to the need for new ideas related to the concept of a green campus that respond to climate change. The concept is simulated with a campus area in Indonesia, a country that requires a lot of school planning for human resource development that requires clean, renewable energy and zero emissions in a humid tropical climate. Design/methodology/approach - The research was carried out in a mixed qualitative-quantitative method using field observations and literature studies through an approach to developing a pedagogical pattern of cognitive, affective and psychomotor, relevant theoretical studies and comprehensive analysis of all variables and aspects. Analysis through the parameter matrix of green buildings and green campuses to produce a zero emission and energy efficient campus area concept. Findings - The concept of an integrated campus area model that can holistically save energy optimally and free from emissions and can produce graduates who are aware and have high cognitive, affective and psychomotor competencies toward environmental conservation efforts. Green campus design is not only physical design, but needs to be integrated with green curriculum content. Research limitations/implications - The limitation of this research is in the scope of architectural and environmental sciences. Practical implications - The practical implication of this research is a new green campus concept that is environmentally friendly and sustainable in a hot-humid tropical climate. Social implications - This research revives the cognitive, affective and psychomotor competencies of human individuals at the highest level to equip the ability to repair and maintain the environment. The research resulted in a refinement of the green campus concept that was integrated into the curriculum. Originality/value - A holistic and integrated green campus concept between the development of campus area design and human development aspects.

The Mandala Agung at Puri Ahimsa displays the concept of 'architecture being non-architectural' yet it remains based on Balinese culture. This paper reveals the forms of local traditions in the lay-out and preservation of these buildings in a qualitative-descriptive manner. The Balinese physical-social value system is revealed through sense-purpose-essence-awareness. The lay-out of Puri Ahimsa signifies Cosmic Balance through the harmonious relations between humans, God, and nature. Architecturally, Mandala Agung is a synthesis of the rice cone form and the openness of Balinese traditional pavilions (wantilan), applying the Cosmic Balance through space in forming harmonious relationships. Singling out the roof as the divine realm, the inner space is regarded as a human realm (Tri Loka concept). The semi-circular space with the doors in opposite directions signifies the balance of opposing forces. Natural balance and the Tri Hita Karana philosophy are maintained in the Puri Ahimsa lay-out. The shape and the openness of the wantilan are adapted to the Mandala Agung architecture, while the Nawa Sanga concept is adapted to the eight main pillars and the sky-light roof. Tri Hita Karana is maintained in the inner space, and the philosophy of Desa Kala Patra is concretised through its uniqueness for today's activities.

Sixty "Mega Cities" would emerge by 2015 catering of 600 million populations, and were threatened by the climate change, because of cyclones, flooding, etc. Jakarta became a metro region covering Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok and Cianjur. Jakarta metropolitan faced the very high population growth, urban sprawling, traffic jams, flooding, green open space reduction, environmental degradation, urban slums and illegal street hawkers. Flooding and traffic congestions were the two most important issues to solve. SWOT analysis and urban design solutions were produced to create a sustainable solution. Related to transportation issues, Singapore Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) concept was evaluated. Meanwhile the Netherlands' polder concept as well as Singapore's Integrated Water Management were also analyzed. The development of above ground MRT as well as Busway could be developed to connect Jakarta Metropolitan Region. The networks were developed on the main toll road networks. The MRT and Busway would eventually replace the need of automobile use in the future. The Transit - Oriented - Development (TOD) with high density can be suggested to be concentrated nearby the MRT and Busway interchange stations. The Netherlands' polder and were adopted for urban' low-lying lands in Jakarta Metropolitan Region, A polder system was defined as the Integrated Man-made Drainage System consisting Dikes, Drains, Retention Ponds, Outfall Structures or Pumping Stations. The polder system was proposed to be extended to Tangerang and Bekasi area.

The objective of this study was to determine the determinants between Community-Based Total Sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in toddler at communities near rivers. This study used a quantitative approach with cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 76 mothers who have toddler with the sampling technique by accidental sampling. Primary data obtained directly from interviews using questionnaires and direct observation to respondents. The independent variable was Community-Based Total Sanitation which includes the behavior of open defecation, drinking water and food management, household waste management, and household waste water management. The results showed that only household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p value 0,0000;OR 5,2), while, open defecation (p value 0.118), drinking water and household food management (p value 1,000), household waste management (p value 0,979) was not related to the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Toddlers in households with poor wastewater treatment were 5,2 times more likely to have diarrhea. The conclusion is household wastewater management was significant with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers, so that innovative efforts are needed so that the community improves their waste management. This is useful for preventing the occurrence of diarrhea in toddlers. (C) 2022 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

To improve the environmental quality and to increase citizens' index of happiness, Bandung City government has built or either rebuilt and revitalized some urban green open spaces, or in popular are known as public park. Until now the government has built hundreds of parks scattered throughout the city of Bandung, ranging from neighbourhood park to city parks. With the availability of many public parks in Bandung, this attract the citizens' attention, both Bandung's citizen and surrounding citizen, to having activities at public park as an alternative destination. Based on the current conditions, the development of green open space in Bandung more likely to focus on meet user's satisfaction and put aside the fulfilment of other function (ecological, health, socio cultural, economy, and aesthetic) as part of the efforts to increase Bandung city urban green open space sustainability. Since the development of green open spaces only expected to accommodate more visitors, this will result in expanding pavement area which potentially reducing the park's ability to absorb water and reducing existing vegetation. In order to prove that, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of urban green open spaces in Bandung. The evaluation's aims to value the balance between its aesthetical and social function, with its ecological function. This paper will propose a set of indicators which can be used as a tool to evaluate performance of urban green open space as an effort to increase Bandung city urban green open space sustainability. These indicators were obtained through in-depth research and review of some related literatures, sub indicators which obtained at that stage will combined and modified to appropriate with the Bandung City urban green open space characteristics. There are four main evaluation indicator categories, which are ecology, socio-cultural, health, and economy indicator.
