Redesigning the Traditional Food Kiosk Based on Local Knowledge, Case study: Siwalankerto District

Siwalankerto Sub-District in Surabaya. Siwalankerto was developed rapidly, influenced by educational facilities development. This further created a demand for sustainable food markets/ food kiosk. On the other hand, the unregulated development of traditional food hawkers along the Siwalankerto road existed. Therefore, architecture program study, Petra University proposed a redesigning strategy for the food kiosks in Siwalankerto Sub-district. The strategy not only would provide healthy-affordable foods for all Siwalankerto's residents, but also would generate income for residents with entrepreneurship and culinary skills. The literatures reviews on sustainable neighborhood, commercial provision, food production and inclusive design were conducted. Furthermore, observations and interviews were conducted to meatball-selling restaurant and food hawker. Secondly, the locational analysis was conducted to determine possible food kioks. Additionally, the participatory design was conducted based on inclusive design principles. The seven (7) food kiosk would be proposed for Siwalankerto. The designs would be developed from a typology of food kiosk design (3m-by-3m module). The food kiosk was designed considering the person with disability, such as: wheel chair users, crutch users and persons with vision disability. On the other hand, the layout were designed with proper kitchen and accessible toilet design. Lastly, the culture exploration could also enriched the functional design such as the food kiosk.

The peri-urban area possesses mixed characteristics of rural and urban areas,i.e.,agricultural,and built-up *** review explains various themes and concepts of peri-urban areas and the importance of peri-urban agriculture(PUA)as an ecosystem service(ES)for their surrounding *** methodological approach is a systematic literature search and explanatory review of books and journal *** focus of the discussion is as follows:(1)quantification of review results,(2)urbanization pressures,peri-urban,and governance,(3)two different concepts about the peri-urban area,(4)protection of PUA and their resilience,and(5)role of PUA in providing ESs to other *** review shows that PUA is more crucial in urban areas than in rural areas in terms of food supply,ecology and biodiversity preservation,disaster mitigation,and *** of the primary causes of PUA loss is massive urban expansion,which entails the conversion of agricultural land in peri-urban areas into built-up ***,we suggest that every country should develop a peri-urban management *** argue that sociocultural biases in PUA have resulted in many institutional constraints on peri-urban management being incorporated within existing political and regulatory frameworks,including planning practices and longstanding laws and regulations.

Elementary school, as criteria of a friendly city, should be available inside a neighborhood unit (NU). There is only one out of 109 NU in Surakarta City that does not have an elementary school. However, 67% of the people of Surakarta choose elementary schools outside their NU. They use various modes of transportation because their school is out of reach for walking. Nevertheless, there are people who do not walk even though they are in their NU. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the modal choice in accessing schools in the city of Surakarta. This research used a quantitative research method with multinomial logistic regression analysis to analyze 14 factors obtained from the theoretical review. The result shows that there are six factors that influence the modal choice to access elementary school, i.e. family member;car ownership;householder occupation;time of trip made;road separator;and householder age.

Madura as one small island in East Java Province, Indonesia faced many challenges due to limited transportation connectivity, limited water resources and karst geology. Due to this reasons, the Government of Indonesia proposed a strategic plan to improve the development of the island to Surabaya, the largest port for the Eastern of Indonesia. It was started with building the Surabaya - Madura (SuraMadu) Bridge with 5.7 km length in 2003. The bridge was finally completed in 2009, improving the traffic flow into the island and development of Madura Island. Unfortunately, the strategy would not be comprehensive without strategic development of the Madura Island, especially in Bangkalan District (Kabupaten Bangkalan). The Central Government has proposed a Green Industry with zero waste and clean energy concept. This industry and port would process the agriculture products from Madura for the export and Eastern part of Indonesia market. Therefore, an industrial ecology concept was needed to achieve the sustainable green industry for Eastern of Indonesia.

Argapura is one of the village areas in Cigudeg Subdistrict which has potential unique characteristics for a tourist destination, namely Geopark. Argapura Village is one of the Pongkor National Geopark development villages covering 15 sub-districts in Bogor Regency. Pongkor National Geopark is a unitary space with geodiversity, culturediversity and biodiversity which aims to preserve and protect the wealth of natural resources. The geopark is located very close to tourism activities, but the existing tour has not specifically touched the educational aspect (educational tourism). Educational tourism is a tourism packaging program that is loaded with educational values in each of its activities. Argapura Village needs to be developed educational tourism aimed at all visitors. The objectives of this study were to identify and analyze the potential of educational tourism objects in Argapura Village, and to arrange educational tourism program in Argapura Village. Data collection through literature studies, field surveys and interviews with stakeholders. Data analysis using tables and described based on the criteria of educational values and geopark elements. The results of study showed that Argapura Village has two main potential attractions/educational tourism objects, namely Angklung Gubrag and Gudawang Caves. Angklung Gubrag is an educational tourism attraction that has high cultural, historical and religious values. Gudawang Cave is an educational tourism object in the form of karst ecosystem. In addition to the both of tourism objects, there are several other potential tourism objects and characteristics of the Geopark. The Argapura Village educational tourism was compiled includes two main programs, namely the half-day and the full-day visiting programs. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Peri-urban issues are generated by the problem of uncontrolled increase of settlement land-use that converts and decreases the agriculture and water absorption land-use. Development improvement is needed to support food protection and environment sustainability from urbanization ***-living Rancaekek in Bandung's peri-urban area is a concept which aims to improve the effectiveness of land use by providing multifunctional living space and household food production through hybrid infrastructure. This residence consists of five families living together in a modular housing unit with an area of 21 m2. Each unit supports families with different responsibilities: farming;food processing;capacity building;building and infrastructure management;and special units for external researchers. The analysis in this paper provides evidence that each responsibility requires specific spatial planning and multifunctional furniture that can support various activities, tools, and processes to enable adaptation in limited space. The solution to space utilization is determined through the proposed movement of furniture based on a review of transformable architecture, namely flexibility and functionality of the space being utilized, to maximize functions in a minimum size space. This research requires deeper research and/or experiments on materials, community acceptance, and a more in-depth review of furniture design in accordance with the concept of transformable architecture. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. On the average horizontal illuminance in rooms with one or two point light sources

To ensure high-quality lighting in indoor spaces, many objective parameters have been suggested in building codes and standards all over the world. Despite the emergence of luminance-based metrics, the average horizontal illuminance (E-av) remains popular in practice. For the case of relatively small rooms with one or two point light sources, it is often intended to determine the point with horizontal illuminance equal to E-av. It is also intended to have the computation for various room scenarios, so that the outcome can be predicted using a simple model. This study, therefore, aims to propose a method to identify the location of point of E-av on horizontal plane in cuboid rooms with various sizes, with one or two point light sources, and to further verify the theoretical concept. To achieve the objective, scenarios and assumptions are described using mathematical tools, followed with verification using grid computations and Monte Carlo simulation of 10,000 random scenarios. Logarithmic models to predict E-av value and its representative location are proposed. The room length-to-width ratio is found more influential, compared to the source luminous intensity characteristics, in affecting the location of point of E-av.

A bounding-surface-based cyclic "p-y plus M-θ" model for unified description of laterally loaded piles with different failure modes in clay

The increasing turbine sizes have necessitated monopiles in soft clay to have larger diameter and rigidity, from early design of flexible piles to recent semi-rigid piles, with future anticipating rigid piles. Existing few cyclic soil-pile interaction models are developed for flexible pile associated with full-flow failure (above the rotation point, RP), with little attention paid to semi-rigid and rigid piles involving rotational-shear failure (below RP). This study aims to unify the description of piles with varying rigidity by proposing a cyclic two-spring model, where lateral resistances above and below RP are described with cyclic p-y and M-theta springs, respectively. It naturally recovers to a cyclic p-y model for flexible piles. The cyclic p-y and M-theta formulations are developed within the bounding-surface plasticity framework, based on numerical results of cyclic soil-pile interaction concerning full-flow and rotational-shear mechanisms, respectively. These numerical analyses are performed using a cyclic plasticity clay model developed and implemented numerically in this study. The cyclic "p-y+M-theta" model quantitatively reproduces experimental results of cyclic shakedown and ratcheting for flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid piles. Ignorance of the M-theta spring could underestimate cyclic resistance of rigid piles by 25%, suggesting the model's merit in reducing conservatism for monopiles in feature designs.

Green Open Space is an important element in a sustainable city-oriented urban model. This phenomenon is growing and developing and has been widely accepted by urban developers around the world in recent decades. The study of cities and their relation to green open spaces and their effects on the welfare, health, happiness, and satisfaction of city residents with their environment is a topic that has received a lot of attention. This study seeks to examine the social function of green open space which is termed "social performance”, by measuring the level of intensity of utilization of the facilities in it. The measuring instrument used is the scalogram table. This research was conducted using a survey method with descriptive analysis. Data collection was carried out by observation and documentation techniques. The results showed that the social performance of green open spaces in the Karebosi Field Complex was 49 percent, still in the low category. Of the nine observed variables, it can be seen that the walking track has the highest performance rating, while the lowest are volleyball, softball, and non-sports facilities. © 2023

Urbanization pressure and farmers' attitudes: implications for agricultural sustainability

Empirical evidence suggests that urbanization pressure impacts agricultural sustainability. This article examines the role of farm characteristics in shaping farmers' attitudes amidst urbanization pressure to converting their agricultural land. Multivalue Qualitative Comparative Analysis (mv-QCA) was employed to elucidate the relationship between farm characteristics and urbanization characteristics from the perspective of farmers. Data were obtained from questionnaire-based interviews with 165 farmers in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas representing various farmer types including owners, owner-cultivators, cultivators, tenants, and pledgers. The results show that 39% of farmers in peri-urban areas and 58% of farmland owners in urban areas exhibit a stronger inclination to sustain their land and farming activities. Furthermore, social, and economic motives are the strongest reasons for farmers to continue to engage in farming today. They have astutely recognized the distinct characteristics of their urban, peri-urban, and rural regions as a result of urbanization. These adaptive strategies include adjustments in planting schedules, utilizing artificial means to source water for agriculture, modifying grain prices and land valuations, decreasing cultivated land size, controlling pests, and seeking supplementary employment. Additionally, extrinsic factors, exemplified by agricultural policies, played a pivotal role in adapting and shaping their behavior (attitudes). The significant role of government in the ongoing development of agriculture in the present and future is crucial. For individual farmers, no matter how heavy the pressure of urbanization, their intrinsic motivation to maintain their land and agricultural activities will remain strong as long as their needs are met.
