This article presents a voltage-mode universal biquadratic filter (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass functions), based on current controlled current conveyor transconductance amplifiers (CCCCTAs). The features of the circuit are that: the quality factor and pole frequency can be tuned orthogonally via the input bias currents: the circuit description is very simple, consisting of merely 3 CCCCTAs and 2 grounded capacitors. Without any external resistors, requiring no component matching conditions, and using only grounded elements, the proposed circuit is very appropriate to further develop into an integrated circuit. Moreover, the proposed circuit enables easy cascading in voltage-mode, due to high-input impedances. The PSPICE simulation results are depicted. The given results agree well with the theoretical anticipation. The power consumption is approximately 4.08mW at ±2.5V power supply voltages.

This article presents a voltage-mode multi-function filter performing completely standard functions: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, band-reject and all-pass functions, current controlled differential voltage current conveyors (CCDVCCs). The features of the circuit are that: the quality factor and pole frequency can be tuned independently via the input bias currents: the circuit description is very simple, consisting of merely 2 CCDVCCs, 1 resistor and 2 capacitors. Only one external resistor and without any component matching conditions, the proposed circuit is very appropriate to further develop into an integrated circuit. Additionally, each function response can be selected by suitably selecting input signals with digital method. The PSPICE simulation results are depicted. The given results agree well with the theoretical anticipation. ©2009 IEEE.

Recent research has shown that, although stereotypes prevail about women's attrition rates in undergraduate engineering, there is no gender gap in the persistence of engineering students to the eighth semester of study. How "persistence" is measured, however, is of methodological concern as we look at what constitutes success. "Persistence" is reported in the literature in various ways as approximate measures of graduation, which is the ultimate goal. To examine the relationship between measures of persistence and graduation, analyses were conducted using MIDFIELD (the Multiple-Institution Database for Investigating engineering Longitudinal Development). The database includes student records from 75,686 first-time-in-college students matriculating in engineering at one of nine public universities in the southeastern United States. We found gender and institutional differences in the six-year graduation rates of students who persist to the eighth semester. An important result of this work is demonstrating how studying different outcomes can tell different stories about the same students: studying eight-semester persistence for aggregate populations can provide a reasonable surrogate for graduation, but may paint an overly optimistic picture at some institutions, and the study of both outcomes can provide new and valuable information about the student experience. © American Society for engineering education, 2009.

A new current-mode Schmitt trigger based on MO-CTTA (Multiple output current through transconductance amplifier) is presented in this article. The circuit description is very simple, its construction consists of only single MO-CTTA. The hysteresis and amplitude of the output current can be tuned independently/electronically. With mentioned features, it is very suitable to realize in a monolithic chip. The PSPICE simulation and experimental results are depicted, and agree well with the theoretical anticipation. The maximum power consumption is approximately 249 mW at plusmn5 V supply voltages.

This article presents a current-mode quadrature oscillator using current controlled current feedback amplifiers (CC-CFAs) as active elements. The proposed circuit is realized from a lossy integrator and a lossy differentiator. The oscillation condition and oscillation frequency can be orthogonally controlled via input bias currents. The circuit description is very simple, consisting of merely 2 CC-CFAs, one grounded and floating capacitors. Without any external resistors and using a few number of external passive components, the proposed circuit is then suitable for IC architecture. The proposed circuit, due to high output impedances, enabling easy cascading in current-mode signal processing. The PSPICE simulation results are depicted, and the given results agree well with the theoretical anticipation. The power consumption is approximately 327 muW at plusmn1.5 V supply voltages.

This paper introduces a modified version of current feedback amplifier (CFA), called current controlled current feedback amplifier (CC-CFA), to extend usabilities of this active element in terms of electronic control-abilities and simpler circuit description of the element's applications. This modified element was realized by using a BiCMOS standard technology to reduce offset error phenomenon, the design configuration is systematically explained. The performances have been proven through PSPICE which is accordance with theoretical anticipations. In addition, application examples for a current-mode multiplier/divider, oscillator, grounded inductance simulator, filters, and amplifiers are included. The results are confirmed that the electrical characteristics are electronically tunable.

This session will present preliminary findings from Prototyping the Engineer of 2020: A 360-degree study of Effective education (P360), funded by the National Science Foundation. The study is designed to provide empirically based guidance for engineering programs seeking to recruit and retain diverse students and to prepare all new engineers for work in a changing global economy. Researchers identified six institutions that are, in different ways, already producing engineers with some of the attributes of the Engineer of 2020: Arizona State University, Harvey Mudd College, Howard University, MIT, the University of Michigan, and Virginia Tech. Brief presentations will identify educational and institutional practices and policies that appear to be especially effective in producing engineers with superior design, interdisciplinary, and contextual knowledge and skills. Presenters will also discuss linkages between effective curricula, instruction, and student experiences and supportive institutional cultures, practices, and policies.

This article proposes a topology of current-mode improved Wheatstone bridge based on dual-output current differencing transconductance amplifier (DO-CDTA). The features of the proposed configuration are that: magnitude of output signal can be controlled via the input bias currents; the proposed circuit is low temperature sensitive, the circuit description is very simple. The circuit performances are depicted through PSPICE simulations, they show good agreement to theoretical anticipation and provide ability to measure small resistance changes at a wide range of frequency (more than 60 MHz). The power consumption is approximately 4.55 mW at ~1.5 V supply voltages.

This article introduces a grounded capacitance multiplier employing current controlled current conveyor transconductance amplifiers (CCCCTAs). The provided capacitor is a grounded element. Its outstanding feature is that the capacitive value can be electronically adjusted by input bias currents of the CCCCTA and is temperature-insensitive. The circuit construction comprises two CCCCTAs, cooperating with a grounded capacitor. The circuit performances are depicted through PSPICE simulations, they show good agreement to theoretical anticipation. Application as a fifth-order Chebyshev low-pass filter is included.
