The potential for future energy crises is a problem the world is currently facing. Many countries are switching from fossil to renewable energy to prevent an energy crisis. One of the most developed renewable energy today is solar energy. Easy installation makes solar energy installation not only on a large scale but also on a home scale. Urban areas will be very suitable for building solar photovoltaic (PV) roofs due to minimal open areas. In installing rooftop solar PV, sound planning is needed to predict the energy potential that can be provided by solar energy on the rooftop of a building. Spatial modeling can be done to determine the energy potential and suitable location for rooftop solar PV installation. In building rooftop solar PV modeling, the level of detail of the building will affect the results of the model. The rooftop's shape and the building's height will affect the amount of solar radiation going into the building. However, the higher the level of detail of the building, the higher the cost and processing time will be. This study will review the differences in modeling the potential of rooftop solar PV using different levels of detail. This research will integrate solar radiation data from remote sensing to determine the energy potential of solar radiation and digital surface model data from photogrammetry to create a level of detail for buildings. Integration of solar radiation data and the level of detail of the building will use hillshade analysis. Hillshade analysis can review the shadow effect on the rooftop of a building which will be directly related to the potential of solar energy on the rooftop of the building. This study determines the energy potential on the rooftop of the building with different levels of detail, namely 0, 1, and actual shape, to determine the difference in energy potential in the three scenarios. As a form of sportification of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), eSport are revolutionizing the video game and sports industry in the digital transformation era. Applying Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study aims to try to understand the relationship between the motivations that make people "eSport fans" with their behavior in supporting eSport so that it has an impact on the level of individual innovative behavior. Using Partial Least Squares -Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) as a data analysis approach with the Smart PLS 3 tool was carried out in this study. A survey was conducted among 100 people to investigate their behavior related to eSport at the level of individual innovative behavior. The findings indicate that eSport as intrinsic motivation has a larger role in idea exploration, idea generation, and idea championing than in idea implementation. This contributes to applying SDT in the context of eSport and innovative behavior.

Pentapod: A New Type of Concrete Armor for Coastal Protection

This paper explores PentaPod, an invention in concrete armor units developed to protect coastal areas from damage caused by waves and currents. Until now, there hasn't been an armor unit intentionally designed to enhance its stability through connections with neighboring units. PentaPod provides a novel perspective, suggesting that the stability of armor units can be significantly improved not only by having substantial weight and effective interlocking but also by securely connecting them to each other. With this in mind, PentaPod concrete armor can be installed in a random or regular manner without the need for fasteners. Alternatively, it can also be installed regularly in layers with fasteners. Compared to conventional concrete armor installations, the overall stability of structures is significantly improved with interconnected PentaPod, either partially or entirely. In this paper, the results of testing the Stability Coefficient (Kd) for two variations of armor, namely PentaCone and PentaOcta, tested in a Wave Tank are also presented. The objective of this testing is to ascertain the stability coefficient for both variations of armor when installed randomly or regularly without any tying involved. The PentaPod arrangement allows for the implementation of both Grey Protection (using concrete armor) and Green Protection (conservation of mangrove areas) simultaneously, showcasing its versatility and integrated approach to coastal protection. © 2024, The Authors. Artificial support material was examined to determine the removal capacity of organic pollutants and nutrients on laboratory scale using PFR system. The experiment was performed using artificial water with similar characteristics to Cikapayang River in three PFRs of 10.78 L. The PFRs were made of PVC pipes filled with an inert chemical substrate as an artificial support material. The process of pollutants removal in the PFR relies on a biological layer (biofilm) grown on the surface of the material support. Three type of C:N:P ratio used in this study were 30:15:1, 75:25:2, and 180:35:3. The results showed that the maximum removal efficiency of TSS, TN, TP, and COD in the preliminary tests were 85%, 87%, 71% and 79%, respectively. Moreover, the maximum water absorption capacity result was up to 30.8%. Organic substrate removal rate compared with first order and Strover-Kincannon substrate removal models prediction. The best fit model for this experiment was Stover-Kincannon model, with the average correlation coefficient up to 90% for all of the three reactors. SEM analysis shown that the microorganisms shape is coccus with the average size of 5 μm. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

This study presents an Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) to evaluate the management strategies for Human-Orangutan Conflict (HOC) in Aceh, Indonesia. Utilizing an IPA Grid, the research categorizes various management strategies into four quadrants, each reflecting different levels of community-perceived importance and performance. Strategies like “Orangutan-Safe Fences” and “Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) for Orangutans” in Quadrant A are both important and performing well, underscoring the effectiveness of current efforts in these areas. Significantly, “Traditional Measures for Orangutan Deterrence,” which include non-harmful, traditional methods such as the use of specific noise deterrents, physical barriers, and community-led patrols to discourage orangutans from entering human areas, alongside “Quick Response program for Orangutan Incidents,” are placed in Quadrant B. In Quadrant C, “Strengthen Law Enforcement and Conservation Policies” are deemed less crucial and underperforming, suggesting a lower priority for immediate resource allocation. Lastly, Quadrant D includes well-performing but less critical strategies like “Early Warning Systems for Orangutan Presence” and “Raise Local Awareness About Orangutans,” pointing to potential over-investment. The study's findings advocate for a strategic reallocation of resources and highlight the importance of aligning conservation efforts with community priorities for effective and sustainable HOC management. © 2024 The Author(s)

Waste generation from food manufacturing facilities poses a serious hazard like environmental degradation, water pollution, and land pollution due to its high nutrient composition. Specifically, solid waste(powder) disposal requires additional energy sources in terms of scientific treatment, structured collection, and disposal packaging according to the safety regulation. Thus, this research discusses the viewpoint of integrating food processing waste as an organic carbon source with BG-11 medium for Chlorella vulgaris(FSP-E) growth. The food processing waste powders investigated in this study were obtained from milk, and biscuit manufacturing facilities. The culture medium was modified by combining both BG-11 and food processing waste powders to identify the optimal algal growth and biochemical *** to the microalgae grown in BG-11 alone(IBG), the combination of biscuit waste and IBG produced higher biomass concentration(44%), with increased lipid(11%), protein(20%), and carbohydrate(57%) contents. Chlorella vulgaris was able to uptake nutrients from the culture medium with combination of food processing waste and IBG thus enhancing its growth. The results obtained also indicate that an integrated culture system using food processing waste and synthetic sources can generate energy out of waste by improving the bio-composition of the microalgae biomass.

Water distribution from water treatment plants may still contain some contaminants such as odour, sediments, discolouration, bacteria, viruses, and worms. This effluent is unhygienic and has potential hazards waterborne disease to human health such as skin disease, itching, influenza, typhus, and diarrhea. These diseases are caused by several contaminant parameters, both physical, chemical, and microbiological. Several methods can be used to treat water such as filtration which can reduce the concentration of contaminants carried or formed in potable water distribution so that it can conform the drinking water quality standards. Filtration has many media types such as activated carbon, greensand manganese, ferolite, polypropylene, yarn, and ceramic. The advantage of activated carbon is low cost, high efficiency, and easy to maintain. Effects of water purification show that the filtration from activated carbon combined with polypropylene filtration processes has significant effects and very effective to reduce physical contaminant. It can reduce 60 - 80 % contaminants, depends on the concentration of the contaminant. This article is a review of some results of the research process. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Acid mine drainage (AMD) contains a high concentration of various heavy metals and have low pH levels. In this study, the comparison between the use of natural zeolite and synthesized zeolite for Cu2+ removal in AMD was conducted. The adsorbent of natural zeolite was prepared through a chemical activating method by adding NaOH. While, synthesized zeolite was made from coal fly ash using a two-step method, fusion, and hydrothermal process. The AMD used in this study was artificially designed with the concentration of Cu2+ 100 ppm and pH ± 3. The adsorption experiment was carried out using a batch method to observe the influential parameters such as adsorbent dosage, contact time, adsorbent isotherms, and kinetics. The result show that the removal efficiency of Cu2+ for natural zeolite and synthesized zeolite was 98,16% and 93,98 % with optimum adsorbent dose 1,5 g/l and 21 g/l, respectively. The optimum contact time for both adsorbents was 120 minutes. The Langmuir isotherm model fitted the adsorption for synthesized zeolite and natural zeolite, with the maximum sorption capacity of 23,8 mg/g and 30,03 mg/g, and the kinetics model of pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order. The result of this study that the good adsorption effectivity synthesized zeolite. Furthermore, both natural zeolite and synthesized zeolite have great potential as a sustainable and economical material for heavy metal removal ion Cu2+ in wastewater. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The Manggarai Water Gate is a measurement point strategically located to measure Jakarta's flooding magnitude that keeps increasing from year to year. The 2015s gate capacity improvement underscores this importance. This paper applies a machine learning model that utilizes an atmospheric approach to predict the Manggarai water level as output. In the process, optimization is done by comparing three spatial input sizes and performing a sensitivity analysis of the input variables. Using a simple recurrent sequence, the model can predict the water level with a coefficient of determination (R2) reaching 0.7 using 18-hour recurrent data. This study can be used as the basis for further development that can take satellite data lead time advantage that is crucial for the early warning system. © 2021 IEEE.

This research delves into the complex factors that affect how ready a community is to embrace new environmental development strategies, which could significantly change the region's social and economic fabric. Using a structured questionnaire, exploratory factor analysis and logistic regression analysis, the study assesses how corporate practices in resource management, environmental governance, efforts to enhance community capabilities, and various demographic factors influence the community's willingness to adapt to change. Despite its intentions to benefit both the mining operations and the community, corporate resource management appears to have a paradoxical impact on the community's willingness to pursue new environmental paths. This negative impact can be attributed to the dependency it creates. Effective corporate resource management can lead to a community becoming heavily reliant on the stability and benefits provided by the mining company. This dependency fosters a sense of security and satisfaction with the status quo, making community members less inclined to explore or support new and potentially disruptive environmental strategies. The stability provided by the mine's resource management practices may inadvertently anchor the community to existing economic structures, reducing their impetus to seek alternative livelihoods or adapt to new socioeconomic conditions. However, it is essential to consider the limitations of this finding. One limitation is the potential bias in community perceptions, where immediate benefits from corporate resource management overshadow long-term considerations for sustainable development. Additionally, the context-specific nature of this study means that these findings may not be universally applicable to all mining communities. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
