The efforts to mitigate floods are necessary. One of the tools that can contribute to flood mitigation is the Flood Early Warning System (FEWS). The main goal of this study is to design a prototype of FEWS that can be easily used anywhere, anytime, and provide accurate water level readings. The prototype system is designed using an Ultrasonic Sensor for water level detection, an alarm system, and Blynk as a web and mobile dashboard. The prototype consists of four main components: Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04, Arduino Nano, NodeMCU, and HC-12. It comprises two units: a transmitter unit and a receiver unit. To determine the accuracy and consistency of the Ultrasonic Sensor, the author conducted testing using calibration, non-continuous, and continuous methods. The accuracy obtained was 99.71%. Additionally, the author observed high consistency in the readings of the ultrasonic sensor, as evident from continuous sensor reading test results. Furthermore, the receiver unit successfully displayed output according to the water level threshold for each condition. Additionally, the Blynk web and mobile dashboard were able to display output as per the design. However, we suggest adding data logging features and also solar panels as a renewable power source to support the improved prototype system. © 2023 IEEE.

An integrated decision-making approach to resilience–LCC Bridge network retrofitting using a genetic algorithm-based framework

Bridge networks are essential components of civil infrastructure, supporting communities by delivering vital services and facilitating economic activities. However, bridges are vulnerable to natural disasters, particularly earthquakes. To develop an effective disaster management strategy, it is critical to identify reliable, robust, and efficient indicators. In this regard, Life-Cycle Cost (LCC) and Resilience (R) serve as key indicators to assist decision-makers in selecting the most effective disaster risk reduction plans. This study proposes an innovative LCC–R optimization framework to identify the most optimal retrofit strategies for bridge networks facing hazardous events during their lifespan. The proposed framework employs both single- and multi-objective optimization techniques to identify retrofit strategies that maximize the R index while minimizing the LCC for the under-study bridge networks. The considered retrofit strategies include various options such as different materials (steel, CFRP, and GFRP), thicknesses, arrangements, and timing of retrofitting actions. The first step in the proposed framework involves constructing fragility curves by performing a series of nonlinear time-history incremental dynamic analyses for each case. In the subsequent step, the seismic resilience surfaces are calculated using the obtained fragility curves and assuming a recovery function. Next, the LCC is evaluated according to the proposed formulation for multiple seismic occurrences, which incorporates the effects of complete and incomplete repair actions resulting from previous multiple seismic events. For optimization purposes, the Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) evolutionary algorithm efficiently identifies the Pareto front to represent the optimal set of solutions. The study presents the most effective retrofit strategies for an illustrative bridge network, providing a comprehensive discussion and insights into the resulting tactical approaches

Indonesia, as one of the largest coffee producers and exporters in the world, has experienced significant growth in the number of coffee shops, driven by increasing consumer demand for ready-to-drink coffee. This study aims to enhance sales performance at Authen Café and Space through the implementation of a menu bundling strategy. By utilizing data mining techniques and the Apriori algorithm, customer purchasing patterns were analyzed to identify optimal menu combinations. The data was collected directly at Authen Cafe during the period from April to August 2028. The analysis revealed that bundling strategies, such as combining Ayam Rica-Rica with Es Kopi Susu Karamel, are effective in increasing sales volume and product popularity among consumers. Furthermore, this study evaluated the impact of offering discounts on bundled packages on the café's profitability, demonstrating that this approach can boost net profit without sacrificing profit margins. This research provides significant insights into the application of data-driven marketing strategies within the café'industry and offers guidance for more effective managerial decision-making. © 2024 IEEE.

The growth of the metropolitan area has necessitated an increase in the demand for freshwater. One of the issues facing modern life is water treatment plant to supporting the communities. The approaches for treatment of the brackish water were carried out utilizing a wide range of technologies and technology. Many different technologies have been created recently to transform brackish water into freshwater using a variety of methods and equipment. One approach to produce extremely tiny water droplets is ultrasonic vibrating mesh. In this research, the performance of ultrasonic vibrating mesh has been investigated to purified the brackish water. This technique is similar to the distillation method in purification system of water traditionally. The evaluation of performance in this context has revolved around two key metrics: the rate of pure water production and the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels. Notably, the TDS content of brackish water saw a significant reduction, di-minishing by approximately 50 ppm, while the resulting quality of the pure water averaged at 354.6 ppm. Concurrently, the flow rate of pure water output was measured at an impressive 4.3 grams per minute. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Oil content estimation in palm fruits is a precious property that significantly impacts oil palm production,starting from the upstream and *** content can be used to monitor the progress of the oil palm fresh fruit bunch(FFB)and be applied to identify product *** on the near-infrared(NIR)signals,this study proposes an empirical mode decomposition(EMD)technique to decompose signals and predict the oil content of palm ***,350 palm fruits with Tenera varieties(Elaeis guineensis ***),at various ages of maturity,were harvested from the Cikabayan Oil Palm Plantation(IPB University,Indonesia).Second,each sample was sent directly to the laboratory for NIR signal measurements and oil content ***,the EMD analysis and arti-ficial neural network(ANN)were employed to correlate the NIR signals and oil ***,a robust EMD-ANN model is generated by optimizing the lowest possible *** on performance evaluation,the proposed technique can predict oil content with a coefficient of determination(R2)of 0.933±0.015 and a root mean squared error(RMSE)of 1.446±*** results demonstrate that the model has a good predictive capacity and has the potential to predict the oil content of palm fruits directly,without neither solvents nor reagents,which makes it environmentally ***,the proposed technique has a promising potential to be applied in the oil palm *** like this will lead to the effective and efficient management of oil palm production.

This research focuses on Sanur Harbor, an inter-island ferry port located in southern Bali. The majority of visitors to Sanur Harbor are tourists who want to travel to Nusa Penida Island. At this port, facilities are available in the form of a Public Address System (PAS) and Information officers whose job is to provide information regarding the arrival and departure of ships. However, the effectiveness of this facility is limited for deaf people. Deaf people often have difficulty getting this information independently and often have to rely on manual assistance from officers. This research aims to develop software based on sign language video integration which aims to increase the accessibility of departure and arrival information at Sanur Harbor for deaf people in Bali. The software development method uses a user-centered design development approach which involves the stages of needs analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation. Sign language videos will be integrated into the software as a medium to convey important information about ship departure and arrival schedules, travel routes, pier names, fast boat names, and other important information to deaf users. Evaluation is carried out through user testing and collecting feedback from users regarding understandability, usability, and user satisfaction with the software being developed. It is hoped that the results of this research can make a positive contribution to increasing information accessibility for deaf people in Sanur Harbor and can become a basis for developing similar technology in other locations. © 2024 IEEE.

Ethane integration project—a study for Egyptian NGLs plants and their economics

For Egypt, ethane is a vital chemical precursor, with the potential to significantly attract financial resources and drive economic growth. Enhancing its added value necessitates efficient recovery of ethane before it enters the national grid without processing. This research investigates the technical and economic feasibility of integrating natural gas liquids (NGLs) from three Egyptian NGLs plants—South Western Desert NGLs (SWD NGLs), North Western Desert NGLs (NWD NGLs), and East Mediterranean NGLs (EMD NGLs)—to improve ethane recovery from natural gas fields. The study focuses on revamping these NGLs plants using various NGLs recovery techniques, conducting a comprehensive comparison to identify the most effective methods for processing rich feed gas. Detailed design of the NGLs recovery processes was developed using HYSYS V.14 simulation software and supplementary calculation sheets. The design criteria encompass both technical and economic parameters to ensure a holistic approach in meeting project requirements. Results indicate a significant increase in ethane recovery: 16% for SWD NGLs, 10% for NWD NGLs (A, B, C), and 85% for EMD NGLs. This improvement will boost ethane feedstock for petrochemical companies from 2000 ton/day to 3500 ton/day, enabling increased polyethylene production. Economic analysis for the base case shows an expected internal rate of return (IRR) of 26%, a net present value (NPV) of USD 73 million, and a payback period of approximately 3 years. Sensitivity analysis on product prices, feed gas prices, and total capital investment confirms the project’s economic viability, with all cases showing feasibility (IRR ≥ 15%) except when product prices fall below USD 225/ton for propane, USD 215/ton for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and USD 25/bbl for condensate. This study highlights the potential for enhanced ethane recovery, offering substantial economic benefits and supporting the growth of Egypt’s petrochemical industry. © The Author(s) 202

One of the critical visual components in video game creation is 3D asset prototypes, which also require significant effort. A procedural model using the L-system method for making low-poly buildings can address this issue. This model produces low-poly buildings based on simple parameters input by the user. The model receives input in the form of axioms, which are then processed according to predetermined L-system rules. After the building is formed, it is saved as a prefab in Unity so that it can be reused and modified by the user. The proposed method is implemented to our turn-based tactic *** and provided as a Unity package (add-on). Experimental results show that the buildings generated by the model have a minimalistic yet functional benefits. © 2024 IEEE.

In the last decade, the Indonesian government has implemented a program to use biodiesel as a substitute for fossil diesel to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. On the other hand, the development of biodiesel as an alternative fuel to replace fossil diesel has several challenges, one of which is the production of biodiesel, which is more complicated and requires a long process. However, the direct use of crude palm oil (CPO) in diesel engines is not recommended because it has many drawbacks. Research recently shows that fuel additives in diesel engines have promising prospects. Therefore, to solve the problem, this study used pure palm oil (PPaO) as the primary fuel, with the addition of silicon oxide (SiO2) as a fuel additive in diesel engines. The results showed that using SiO2 additive in PPaO can increase thermal efficiency by 18.8% at 60% load compared to diesel fuel (DF). Nevertheless, using this fuel increased specific fuel consumption (SFC) by 3.9% on average and increased the opacity by 153% compared to diesel fuel. These results indicate that SiO2 has the potential to be developed as an effective additive to PPaO fuel that can improve the efficiency and performance of diesel engines. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. In the digital age, managing urban heritage sites presents unique challenges that necessitate the integration of smart technologies. This review assesses the integration and impact of smart city initiatives on sustainable environmental management in urban heritage sites. Through a comprehensive literature review of 84 papers from ScienceDirect and Scopus, this study categorizes the findings into three themes: Smart City Initiative Analysis, Heritage Site Considerations, and Smart Technology Integration Models. The review highlights the significant contributions of smart technologies, such as digital analysis, 3D documentation, and Information and communication technology, in enhancing sustainability and preserving cultural values. Case studies from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Seville, and Uzbek illustrate these initiatives' practical applications and outcomes. The paper underscores the need for robust policies, public awareness, and multidisciplinary collaboration to maximize the benefits of smart city initiatives. Finally, the study identifies gaps in current research and suggests further research directions for integrating smart technologies into urban heritage site management. © 2024 IEEE.
