With establishment of fracture toughness test for advance ceramic according ISO/FDIS 23146:2008(E) with the sample test of Single-edge V-Notch Beam/SEVNB, then the researcher related this activity should understand and able to realize how to prepare the sample of advance ceramic in order the requirements of the standard are fulfilled. In contrary with metals and polymers that usually easy to cut as the standard size for testing, the advance ceramics are found much more difficult to prepare since it is very hard and brittles. More even, specifically for fracture toughness test, the level of difficulty is added since the sharp initial crack should be introduced in the edge of the sample. This article introduce method on preparation of advance ceramic for the purpose of fracture toughness test completed with method to introduce the initial sharp V-notch crack which is valid and possible to be measured its length and diameter of the tip that yield valid result of fracture toughness test. © 2020 Institute of Physics Publishing. This paper presents a practical methodology for optimizing the geometry of electrical grounding grids at industrial frequencies of 50Hz and 60Hz, integrating advanced calculation techniques and evolutionary algorithms to improve the safety and operational performance of electrical grounding systems. The proposed approach is particularly beneficial for industrial automation and control systems, where effective grounding is necessary to maintain system reliability and prevent downtime. This methodology employs mathematical modeling and computational tools to optimize grid parameters, ensuring compliance with safety standards while reducing operational costs, thus contributing to the overall efficiency of automated systems in industrial environments. The study reports a reduction of up to 66% in the number of vertical rods and 40% in horizontal conductors compared to traditional methods. These results indicate that the proposed methodology can significantly reduce material usage and costs while maintaining electrical safety in accordance with regulatory standards, making it applicable to a wide range of industrial settings, including substations and automated facilities. © 2025 The Authors

Coconut leaf is one of the most potential biomass to be converted into bio-oil through pyrolysis process and the availability in Indonesia is abundance. The mechanism of decomposition of coconut leaf into bio-oil productions requires further research because of the complexity of pyrolysis and differences in biomass composition. Therefore, the design, optimization and modeling of pyrolysis processes is strongly influenced by biomass characteristics. The purpose of this study was to find the characteristic differences in pyrolysis behavior of the three main parts of coconut leaf based on its constituent parts;leaflets, midrib and whole leaf. Moisture is removed by drying the sample in an electric oven at 110°C for 24 hours. Characteristics were tested using Cellulose Analysis, Ultimate Analysis, and Heat Value, whereas pyrolysis behavior used Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA). The results show that leaflets, midrib and whole leaf exhibit different pyrolysis behavior. In terms of considering flow process of separation, the whole leaf becomes an option as a fuel for further pyrolysis processes. The maximum temperature that as a reference in the pyrolysis process of coconut leaves is 500°C with temperature rate of 20°C/min and the process lasts as long for 130 minutes. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Composite is a material that combines two or more materials that basically dissimilar chemical or physical properties from one another. In this research, we used Acropora coral reef waste particulate and Resin Polyester BQTN type 157 with Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) 1% as the hardener. The Hand Lay-Up molding technique is used in the process of making the material. The tensile and flexure test is done according to the ASTM D3090 and ASTM D790 – 03 standards. The purpose of this research is to discover the means to produce a composite enhanced by Acropora coral reef waste with polyester matrix and to learn the tensile and flexure strength from the Acropora coral reef waste particulate-enhanced polyester composites with mass fraction varieties of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. The tensile test result of Acroporal coral reef waste particulate with polyester matrix yields average tensile strength at mass fraction variety of 40% with a score of 19,66 MPa, with an Modulus score of 636,75 MPa. The flexure test result of Acropora coral reef waste particulate with polyester matrix yields average flexure stress at mass fraction variety of 40% with a score of 112,56 MPa, with an average Elastic Modulus score of 3098,96 MPa. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

A flat wheel is a kind of wheel damage occurring when the train wheels are dragged along the rail as the axle wheel's rotation stops. The wheels will skid when the brake block force is greater than the train force. The equation for the wheel skid is (Fbrake > Ftrain), this applies when the wheels stop rotating, but the train still moves so that a flat spotmay appear. This study finds that the electric trains from the JR 205 seriesthat has many flat spots on its wheels are the M trains (70%). It also reveals that the percentage of the brake block pressure in the unloaded KRL is 130.4%. Provided that >max (100%), this condition does not meet the standard of the International Union of Railway or Union Internationale des Chemis de Fer (UIC). If the percentage of the brake block pressure () exceeds 100%, the braking force will be greater than that of the axle load and this causes the skid. To overcome this condition, rechecking the braking force and providing additional equipment are needed to assure that the air pressure is controlled. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Modification is one of the ways used to actualize oneself in mass products. Motorcycle radiator covers are an interesting component to combine with Batik, which is part of Indonesian culture. This cover has a specific shape. In this study, this process will be carried out by reverse engineering techniques which include 3D scanning, Re-drawing, modification, and production processes. The 3D scanning process was performed by using a handled 3D scanner tool which had a specification of 0.2 m × 0.2 m × 0.2 m to 2 m × 2 m × 2 m scanning volume with 0.45 m to 1.6 m of operation range. The process was optimized by object coloring. The CAD object was re-drawn and evaluated by using a combination of CAD/CAE and their features. Surface generating and editing were among the most useful features used in this work. The result showed that this technique could accommodate the objective of this work. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Undershot waterwheels have been used by the people in rural areas to lift and distribute the water to the bottom which is higher than the water source. Waterwheels has a relatively simple design, large diameter, high speed and high torque. But applying it as a microhydro with high speed and small diameter still has to be explored. Waterwheels can operate efficiently in locations with high flow speeds. The Waterwheel functions from a waterwheel blade as a place to ride water so that the wheel can spin. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the higher the flow of water with a large number of buckets, the speed of rotation of the wheel will be slower. Conversely, the lower the flow of water with the number of buckets a little then the spinning wheel is faster. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland. All rights reserved.

The available of conventional fuels are fluctuating depend on distribution from the source production to consumer. The availability of biogas as renewable energy is increasing due to establishments of many organic wastes processing worldwide. The need of electricity to support daily life activity is a must, but the availability of electric source in remote area is limited especially for a farm that far away from commercial line distribution of electricity. This work is dedicated to solve this problem. The single cylinder 4 stroke spark ignition engine (83 cc) was designed to be able to be fuelled flexibly by using biogas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or gasoline if sometime the biogas not available during initiation of the process or during maintenance of anaerobic digester. The engine is still can be run to provide electricity by using conventional fuel such as LPG or gasoline. The full consumption as well as emission of this flexible fuel engine was investigated. It is found that the fuel consumption is 9.97 L/mint for Biogas, 0.004 L/mint for gasoline and 2.24 L/mint for LPG. Surprisingly by using biogas the emission of carbon monoxide (CO) was down to almost zero (0.02 ppm), comparing gasoline 0.32 ppm, and LPG 0.4 ppm. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

This study aimed at investigating the maintenance management of welding engineering workshops and factors affecting the damage of welding equipment in vocational high schools located in Special Region of Yogyakarta. The study employed quantitative descriptivedesign. It was conducted at vocational high schools SMKN 1 Sedayu, SMKN 2 Pengasih, SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Wates, and SMKN 1 Pundong. The respondents were heads of workshops, teachers of welding engineering subject, workshop technicians, and students. The data were collected through survey, observation, and interview. The quantitative descriptive technique was employed to analyze the collected data. The results of the study show that the maintenance management of welding engineering workshops in some VHS in Yogyakarta is Very Gooddespitesome problemsin the maintenance procedure. The factors causing the equipment damage are the unscheduled maintenance procedure, absence of inventory lists, lack of technicians, improper use of workshop equipment, and the limited amount of maintenance budget. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The study aims to describe (1) the development stages of the manual arc welding job sheet and (2) its validity. It is a Research and Development (R & D) of which the data were collected by means of non-test instruments, namely the closed-ended questionnaires with the 5-scale responses. The data were collected from the three research participants acting as the material and media experts,namely two lecturers in the mechanical engineering Education study program, Faculty of engineering (FE), Yogyakarta State University (YSU), and a teacher of the Basic Welding Technique subject. The job sheet development stages were adapted from Thiagarajan's model, namely the Four-D model covering the definition, design, development, and dissemination. Data were analyzed quantitatively by means of the descriptive statistics. The results of the material evaluation by the material expert I prove that the job sheet is categorized as Appropriate (with the total score of 145 or 82.9%) and Very Appropriate based on the material expert II with the total score of 153 (87.4%). Besides, in terms of the media, the job sheet is Appropriate based on the media expert I (with the total score of 207 or 82.8%) and Very Appropriate based on the media expert II (with the total score of 215 or 84.4%). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
