Lembang fault is an active fault that may trigger earthquakes and landslides in the North Bandung area. The movement of the fault is on the mainland, theLembang fult is still being debated even though an earthquake has been recorded which may have originated from this fault. The epicenter in the Cihideung area, in addition to tectonic influences, the activity of the Lembang fault is also thought to be influenced by volcanism which can affect the mechanism of fault movement. Tectonic processes play an essential role in the formation of the morphology of an area. The Lembang fault is a normal fault that was formed as a result of tectonic activity in the Neogene sge, located in the northern part of Bandung, stretching for 30 km in a west-east direction, the existence of this fault has shaped the morphology of the Lembang plains to the north and forms a hilly path trending west-east to the north. South. Tectonic geomorphology is the main factor that controls the development of landforms in active tectonic areas and have a significant influence on the natural features of mountains and watersheds which are located east of the Lembang fault, Cikapundung, and Cikeruh. Trending northwest-southeast geomorphic indication analysis is used to study tectonic activity in the study area in the form of basin shape (Bs), watersheds gradient index (SL), drainage basin asymmetry (Af), mountain face sinuosity (SMF) and valley floor width to valley height ratio (Vf). These geomorphic indication variables are combined to produce degrees of relative tectonic activity in the research area which can be divided into four classes;class 1 has a very high relative tectonic activity index, class 2 has a relatively high tectonic activity index, class 3 has a relatively moderate tectonic activity index, and class 4 has a relatively low tectonic activity index, field observation data in the form of the landform and geology of the research area support these results. © 2023 ACRS. Total dissolved solids (TDS) consisting of inorganic salts and organic matter are pollutants to the aquatic and water systems for human use. This paper studied the effect of ceramic adsorbent composition on improving the quality of the produced water (PW) by decreasing TDS before entering reverse osmosis (RO). Manufacturing ceramic adsorbents use a mixture of spent catalysts of residues catalytic cracking (RCC) and natural clay in various compositions. Experiments were performed using the PW from one oil and gas company in South Sumatra, Indonesia. The initial characterization of produced water contains total dissolved solids of 14,556 mg/L. The flow rate of PW into the ceramic adsorbent column were varied from 6 to 8 L/min at a contact time of 15 to 120 min. The results showed that ceramic adsorbent A (diameter 10 mm and thickness 10 mm, 70% clay, and 30% RCC) reduced TDS by 74.58%. Adsorbent B (diameter of 20 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 70% RCC and 30% clay) lowers TDS by 56.68% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a contact time of 60 min. Adsorbent C (diameter of 10 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) reduced TDS by 59.40% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a flow time of 60 min. Adsorbent D (diameter of 20 mm, thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) lowers TDS by 54.38% at a flow rate of 6 L/ min and a contact time of 60 min. After being transferred into the adsorption column, their filtrates were sent into the Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane. The final permeates of RO have TDS values between 1,720 mg/L to 3,930 mg/L that met water standards for oil and gas exploration wastewater in Indonesia. © 2023 The Authors. All rights reserved.

mining water is one of the main problems that has a great importance on mine productivity. In mining implementation, it is necessary to study the mining Water (Hydrogeology) system to support a good mine design. The mining Water drainage system is a method for making work sites in the mining area always dry. Prior to mining, hydrogeological analysis and rainwater management methods are carried out. Calculation of rainfall intensity using Gumbel Probability estimation and water capture area analysis obtained CA-1 Q = 915, 35, m3 / day CA-2 Q = 1149, CA-3 Q = 141116, 01CA-4 Q = 1407.89, the form of rainwater trapping channels in the form of trapezium and pump requirements in each catchment area of 1 (one) pump each. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Massive and continuous well pumping can result in significant groundwater table decline, potentially leading to groundwater depletion and land subsidence over the long term. The timelapse microgravity method, an innovation in gravity measurement techniques, is currently widely used in hydrological applications, including groundwater table monitoring. Groundwater pumping induces changes in subsurface mass distribution, resulting in subsurface mass anomalies that can be detected using gravity method. Many previous studies have employed the slab Bouguer approach to estimate gravity anomalies due to groundwater table changes. This method has significant error for detail anomaly value of groundwater table, which is high decline near production wells. According to Theis formula, the groundwater table decline model as drawdown cone (inverted cone), which gravitational field is calculated. Therefore, calculated gravity anomaly must account for the drawdown cone shape. In this study, gravity anomaly calculations for groundwater drawdown cones are resolved by integrating triple integrals using cylindrical coordinates both analytical and numerical methods. The analytical calculation of integrating triple integrals can only be resolved for two variables (variable z and [[EQUATION]]), and for [[EQUATION]] variable is calculated using numerical methods with the trapezoidal rule. By making the trapezoidal step smaller for closer the well, it is expected this calculation has smaller errors. This study aims to provide more accurate gravity anomaly calculations in accordance with the conceptual model of groundwater table changes. This technique can be used to help groundwater management where monitoring wells is insufficient. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Preliminary study of increasing added value in basalt rocks as raw material for making basalt fiber (Fiber Basalt Reinforced Composite)

West Java has mining materials from volcanic activities including andesite and basalt. This mining materialis used conventionally as a building (construction) material which is still in the form of ’raw materials’ or ’semi-finished’ so that its use is only carried out simply and the selling value is low. To increase its selling value, basalt rock can be used as a composite construction material in the form of fibers, including composites with the strengthening of basalt fibers (Fiber Basalt Reinforced Composite). This study aims to see the characteristics of basalt rocks that can be made fibers in 3 locations in the Bandung area (Gunung Bohong, Cipatik and Batu Templek) including the characteristics of chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties and mineral composition. The research methodology was carried out by a comparative method by looking at the characteristics of other basalt rocks that can already be used as basalt fibers, namely chemical composition (Al2O3 and SiO2) with the XRF method, testing physical (density) and mechanical properties (tensile strength and Elastic Modulus) and mineral composition with petrography analysis methods by looking at the plagioclase mineral. Based on chemical analysis, of the three samples studied, they were included in the criteria for basalt rocks that can be used for the manufacture of basalt fibers, but in these samples there were chemical compounds that were not included in the criteria, namely the Fe2O3 + FeO and MgO compounds. Then the characteristics of physical properties that are included in the criteria for making basalt fibers are in the Cipatik and Batu Templek samples. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties that are included in the criteria are in the Gunung Bohong and Cipatik samples. Furthermore, for petrography testing, it was concluded that the mineral composition in the three samples studied contained plagioclase minerals by 100%. This research delves into the complex factors that affect how ready a community is to embrace new environmental development strategies, which could significantly change the region's social and economic fabric. Using a structured questionnaire, exploratory factor analysis and logistic regression analysis, the study assesses how corporate practices in resource management, environmental governance, efforts to enhance community capabilities, and various demographic factors influence the community's willingness to adapt to change. Despite its intentions to benefit both the mining operations and the community, corporate resource management appears to have a paradoxical impact on the community's willingness to pursue new environmental paths. This negative impact can be attributed to the dependency it creates. Effective corporate resource management can lead to a community becoming heavily reliant on the stability and benefits provided by the mining company. This dependency fosters a sense of security and satisfaction with the status quo, making community members less inclined to explore or support new and potentially disruptive environmental strategies. The stability provided by the mine's resource management practices may inadvertently anchor the community to existing economic structures, reducing their impetus to seek alternative livelihoods or adapt to new socioeconomic conditions. However, it is essential to consider the limitations of this finding. One limitation is the potential bias in community perceptions, where immediate benefits from corporate resource management overshadow long-term considerations for sustainable development. Additionally, the context-specific nature of this study means that these findings may not be universally applicable to all mining communities. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Recent borehole seismic deployments conducted along the Baribis Fault in northwestern Java reveal that it may be active. In this study, we exploit these data to locate proximal earthquakes using a relative relocation technique, estimate their moment magnitudes using a spectral fitting method and compute their focal mechanisms via waveform inversion. We observe that seismicity in the eastern part of the fault is significantly higher than in the west, where a previous GPS study of the region south of Jakarta demonstrated the existence of high compression rates. These observations imply that the western Baribis Fault is locked, and that neighbouring areas, including southern Jakarta and its surroundings, may be highly vulnerable to future sizeable earthquakes when accumulated elastic strain energy is eventually released during fault rupture. Significantly, the current generation of Indonesia's national hazard maps have not considered seismicity along the Baribis Fault. Our new results therefore call for an urgent reappraisal of the seismic hazard in northwestern Java that carefully takes into account the Baribis Fault and its earthquake potential, particularly in light of its proximity to Jakarta, a megacity that lies at the heart of one of the most densely populated islands in the world.

Geochemical Investigation on the Implications of Fluid Origin, Subsurface Processes and Recharge on the Tangkuban Perahu Geothermal Conceptual Model

Tangkuban Perahu and nearby volcano-hosted geothermal prospects are believed to be important for future power generation in West Java, Indonesia. Recharge areas of these prospects and geothermal fluid evolution are not yet fully understood. The objectives of this investigation are to describe the fluid origin, processes, and evolution of geothermal fluids in relation to the recharge and the conceptual model of the Tangkuban Perahu Geothermal Systems (TPGS). The investigation involved sampling and analysis of geothermal waters, rainwater, and gases collected in fumaroles and other manifestations around the TPGS. Isotopic results of δ18O and δ2H collected from thermal and rainwater indicate deep-circulating meteoric origin, at an infiltration altitude ranges between 753-850 m in low terrain. Meanwhile, the high-standing terrain indicates the recharge zone to be within the wall of the Sunda Caldera and mountain slopes. Chondrite normalized patterns reveal an overall flat trendline that suggests the enrichment of Lower Rare Earth Elements (LREEs) in the central part of Tangkuban Perahu which is derived from the magmatic influx. The non-atmospheric gases origin was diagnosed by the lower N2/Ar (≤ 38) and is characterized of meteoric origin. The positive δ18O shifts from Ciater (CT), Batu Gede (BG), and Domas crater (KwD) geothermal waters samples comparatively to local meteoric lines are influenced by the interaction with wall rocks or magmatic influx. In these geothermal systems, the meteoric water infiltrated to the depth is heated, mixed with near-surface water, and followed by partial discharge as thermal springs along faults. © 2022, The Authors. A pilot Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in Indonesia is planned to be implemented in Gundih area, Central Java Province in Indonesia. Prior to conducting CO2 injection, reservoir characterisations have to study thoroughly to assure that the reservoir is to meet with CCS standard requirements. The Jepon well in the Gundih fied was proposed as a suitable site for CO2 injection. The decision was made to proceed with a comprehensive site assessment and geological modelling of the Jepon area. This site was selected based on the reason the presence of a potentially suitable reservoir (Ngrayong Sandstone) and primary and secondary seals (Bulu Limestone and Wonocolo claystone). Using logging data, petrophysics and rock physics model are used to evaluate potential of the CO2 injection site. Permeability results from petrophysics calculations and recent injection tests show very small;whilst porosity is relatively high. This can be caused by fractures mostly are not connected. Hence, rock physics for the reservoir is evaluated and modelled as anisotropy or Vertical Tranverse Isotropy (VTI) in which fractures with preferred orientation. Stiffness calculations for VTI medium with different aspect ratio shows consistent with low permeability result. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
