Future networks need to get knowledge of users' requirements by analyzing big data to achieve intelligence. OpenFlow is the first standard communications interface defined between the control and forwarding layers of a SDN architecture. So as to enhance network flexibility and availability, this paper presents a network resource allocation scheme equipped with the ability of user preference awareness, by connecting a cloud platform of analyzing users' data. We use the Hadoop platform to predict the rate and type of the incoming flows and employ them to get the lightest burden link through the LARAC algorithm. It has been verified on the BUPT SDN test bed that this system is capable of allocating the network resources dynamically by predicting the network load in advance. The results show that the proposed methods achieve better load balance than previous networks.

Design of in-network caching scheme in CCN based on grey relational analysis

In-network caching is one of the most important issues in content centric networking （CCN）, which may extremely influence the performance of the caching system. Although much work has been done for in-network caching scheme design in CCN, most of them have not addressed the multiple network attribute parameters jointly during caching algorithm design. Hence, to fill this gap, a new in-network caching based on grey relational analysis （GRA） is proposed. The authors firstly define two newly metric parameters named request influence degree （RID） and cache replacement rate, respectively. The RID indicates the importance of one node along the content delivery path from the view of the interest packets arriving The cache replacement rate is used to denote the caching load of the node. Then combining hops a request traveling from the users and the node traffic, four network attribute parameters are considered during the in-network caching algorithm design. Based on these four network parameters, a GRA based in-network caching algorithm is proposed, which can significantly improve the performance of CCN. Finally, extensive simulation based on ndnSIM is demonstrated that the GRA-based caching scheme can achieve the lower load in the source server and the less average hops than the existing the betweeness （Betw） scheme and the ALWAYS scheme.

The virtual network embedding/mapping problem is an important issue in network virtualization in Software-Defined networking(SDN).It is mainly concerned with mapping virtual network requests,which could be a set of SDN flows,onto a shared substrate network automatically and *** researches mainly focus on developing heuristic algorithms for general topology virtual *** practice however,the virtual network is usually generated with specific topology for specific ***,it is a challenge to optimize the heuristic algorithms with these topology *** order to deal with this problem,we propose a topology-cognitive algorithm framework,which is composed of a guiding principle for topology algorithm developing and a compound *** compound algorithm is composed of several subalgorithms,which are optimized for specific *** develop star,tree,and ring topology algorithms as examples,other subalgorithms can be easily achieved following the same *** simulation results show that the topology-cognitive algorithm framework is effective in developing new topology algorithms,and the developed compound algorithm greatly enhances the performance of the Revenue/Cost(R/C) ratio and the Runtime than traditional heuristic algorithms for multi-topology virtual network embedding problem.

Software-Defined networking (SDN) is an innovative and programmable networking architecture, representing the direction of the future network evolution. In this paper, we propose an architecture to introduce traffic classification techniques into the OpenFlow-based SDN network, which enables the network to be application-aware, so the network could distinguish various applications flows and know the requirements of different flows. Our new architecture also take advantage of the new intelligence to make the network forward traffic flows based flows' demands on bandwidth and delay, which could improve Quality of Service (QoS) of applications and optimize resource allocation all over the network. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper studies an approach to enhance the trust in the widespread use of Body Sensor Networks (BSN) in Healthcare. To address the wide variety in medical indications and differences between patients, we assume that such BSNs are programmable and highly flexible in their functionality. Yet this opens a vulnerability to malicious attacks and intrusion of the patient's privacy. We study the work flow in a typical medical scenario, we map the (implied or evidence-based) trust relations and we use this to propose a scheme for verifying the authenticity and trustworthiness without prohibitively interfering with common practices. Our proposed framework is currently being refined in the VITRUVIUS project, for instance to test the feasibility of its implementation. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

In spite of great efforts to expand the network infrastructure, it is still hard to catch the rapid growing need to serve tremendous subscribers with significant traffic. To effectively allocate the resource among mobile telecommunication operators and Internet Service Providers (ISP), grasping the highly dynamic traffic patterns can enable effective network planning and optimization for state-of-the-art mobile Internet. We employ traffic behavior analysis method to analyze and model the Internet traffic. Due to the subscribers' number of streaming media accounting over 60% of the entire traffic, we conduct a complete study to analyze this kind of traffic. By contrast, we also give the analysis result of another application, Instant Message (IM). Applying our newly proposed clustering methodology, we describe the regional characteristic of applications. This research subsequently enables more subtle and efficient mobile Internet operating modes to benefit operators and ISPs.

The concept of intelligent lighting facilitates the use of machine learning models to adapt the lighting application behavior based on changing context. Ideally, a complete dataset without missing values is used to train the learning algorithm. Nevertheless, it is common to have missing data values in the dataset, e.g. due to lack of rich enough user interfaces such as smart phones. In this paper, we study various probabilistic approaches to treat missing feature values in a dataset collected from an office breakout area. This dataset is used to train the learning model to provide intelligent lighting solutions. We evaluate the performance of five different approaches by simulation, using four rule-based classification algorithms and various proportions of missing data. We find that none of these approaches gives best performance over the necessary range of conditions, and that an adaptive strategy is more suited.

Research has shown that environment lighting influences the behavior of the employees in an office setting highly, making lighting configuration in an office space crucial. A breakout area may be used by the employees for various activities that need to be supported by different lighting conditions, e.g. informal meetings or personal retreat. The desired lighting conditions depend on user preferences and other contextual data observable in the environment. In this paper, we introduce a new method for building prediction models to provide intelligent lighting in our pilot breakout area. Based on a set of pre-defined features that are expected to have influence on the users' choice in selecting a desired lighting environment, we introduce a probabilistic model for generating synthetic data. We also discuss and compare the performances of various rule-based classification models on the synthetic data and find `DecisionTable' to be the most suitable model for our pilot implementation. We study the influence of the training set size (number of samples) on various classification models and the influences of individual features through simulations. We present empirical results based on the synthetic dataset and a roadmap for future research.

Smart spaces provide enhanced user experience through sensing and adaptation to changing context. Hence, they allow distributed applications to show intelligent, autonomous and interactive behavior. Two important research topics within this field are machine learning and human-system interaction. This paper introduces a pilot smart space implementation on top of a Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network (WSAN) infrastructure that is specifically intended to investigate these two aspects. We investigate a scenario built around an office breakout area context. We describe the infrastructure setup, the novel user interfaces, the network architecture and the message exchange policies of the pilot implementation. We employ the opportunities of modern lighting systems in the proposed implementation.
