This paper introduces a target tracking control approach for an underactuated Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) with 6 Degrees of Freedom (6-DoF), characterized by unknown dynamics and disturbances. Notably, the system inertia matrix of this 6-DoF USV is positive definite and non-diagonal, implying the presence of intricate coupling relationships within the input vector components. To address the challenges posed by underactuation, we present an adaptive control methodology utilizing a novel transverse function and backstepping procedure. Furthermore, we introduce a dynamic signal to compensate for external dynamic uncertainties and disturbances. Leveraging Lyapunov stability theory, we establish that the target tracking error converges to a small neighborhood near the origin, and all signals within the closed-loop system remain bounded. Lastly, we showcase the effectiveness of the proposed control methodology through simulation results involving a 6-DoF supply vehicle. IEEE

With lighter weight, lower power consumption, and higher flexibility, flexible manipulators have been widely used in industrial fields. However, it is easy to produce elastic deformation, resulting in vibration. In this paper, an improved radial basis function (RBF) neural network (NN) for adaptive boundary control is proposed. The partial differential equation (PDE) model of the flexible manipulator is established, and the asymptotic stability of the system is proved by the first Lyapunov method. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed control method can eliminate the low-amplitude angular fluctuation and the high-amplitude angular velocity fluctuation. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. control Moment Gyroscope (CMG) is the core part of the spacecraft which is in charge of rapid attitude maneuvering. Slip ring is the important part of CMG which is responsible for continuous electrical signal transporting from wheel to gimbal. Interruption of slip ring may cause the failure of position measurement of gimbal which will suddenly lead the gimbal of CMG enter into a sensorless PMSM control. This will further lead to a burst disordered operation of CMG and even impact the attitude control of spacecraft. In stage of low speed control of PMSM in gimbal, open loop control has been the only choice for sensorless control without changing the original design. Aimed at operating with a smooth transition from closed loop to open loop of PMSM, rapid diagnosis of temporary position measurement failure incorporates with stator and rotor field direction adjustment control strategy are suggested. With this method, the safety of the satellite has been assured when CMG encountered the temporary of gimbal position measurement failure. © 2023 IEEE.

Factors found to be influencing individual travel patterns have been explored in several studies. A number of studies have suggested an association between mobile location data and individual travel patterns. This paper proposes a novel deep learning framework to extract individual travel patterns by using large-scale mobile location data. The proposed framework includes methods for extracting origin and destination points based on spatiotemporal thresholds, matching the origin and destination with traffic analysis zone, and predicting based on natural language processing methods, in which a neural network is constructed to vectorize the traffic area on the basis of spatiotemporal information. A case study is performed using mobile location data involving more than 3 million users in Beijing, and the results show that our proposed framework can effectively identify individual travel patterns. The results of this study can further provide insights into traffic demand identification, bus network optimization, and other related research. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Geometric Methods for Assessing the Value and Demands of Energy Storage in Power system Operation

Driven by the desire of a low-carbon society, the penetration level of renewable generation in the power grid of China will still grow fast in the near future. As the synchronised generators whose output is controllable are gradually replaced by volatile energy resources, energy storage is expected to play a vital role in regulation services and flexibility provision. Because the capital cost of energy storage is still relatively high, it is important to assess the value or demand of energy storage before making an investment decision. This paper presents two representative mathematical tools to achieve this target in a geometric fashion. The first one is the multi-parametric programming method. It depicts the reduced cost by deploying energy storage through post-optimal value function, which is easy to visualise or can be embedded in high-level optimisation problems such as storage sizing. The second one is a polyhedral projection method. It represents all feasible power-energy capacity pairs of a storage unit to achieve a certain target. The above methods remove the need of repeatedly solving a large number of problems with varying capacity parameters. Simple examples are given for illustration, and the presented methods can also directly handle problems with complex models and constraints.

Insufficient inertia has retrained the progress toward a one hundred percent inverter-based power generation. To solve this issue, a promising way is to exploit synthetic inertia based on the power electronic inverters. Taking advantage of energy stored in the DC side capacitor, this paper proposes a synthetic inertia control scheme for inverters without a DC side battery. The basic mechanism of the synthetic inertia control is derived by comparing the working principle between a synchronous generator and a three-phase inverter. Thereafter, the control algorithm of the inverter is designed by three parts, including synthetic inertia control loop, reactive power control loop and line oscillation damping control loop. Finally, simulation results based on a simplified microgrid are presented to verify the self-grid synchronization and grid-supportive characteristics of the inverter. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Damage effect and progressive failure mechanism of sandstone considering different flaw angles under dynamic loading

In many engineering applications,it is essential to have information about rocks that inherently contain preexisting flaws under dynamic loading *** impact tests are conducted on samples with varying flaw angles using the split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)test system and the Digital Image Correlation system(DIC).The characteristics of the samples after dynamic loading,including dynamic strength,energy dissipation,and fractal fracture,are compared and *** the flaw angle increases,the peak stress and strain exhibit a typical V-shaped pattern,reaching the minimum value at 30,and the initial initiation position shifts from the flaw tips to the middle of the *** modes can be divided into three modes depending on the flaw *** progressive failure process,taking into account the heterogeneity of the rock,is demonstrated by developing an elastic damage constitutive model that uses dynamic compression and tensile tests to parameterize *** the flaw angle increases,the initial damage zone also moves from the flaw tips to the middle of the *** around the hole with redistributed stress are observed,and the failure mechanisms can be explained with the aid of strain energy density(SED).Using fracture mechanics,the analytical solution of stress around the flaw is provided,and the variation of crack initiation angle,stress distribution,and energy dissipation under different flaw angles is theoretically explained,which is in good agreement with the experimental and simulated results.

As the critical components for marine low-speed diesel engine flue gas waste heat recovery (WHR) supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO2) Brayton cycle system, the structure of the compressor impeller is optimized by the evolutionary algorithm (EA) based on the co-simulation of the CAESES, ANSYS CFX and Opti Slang. The law of impeller pressure ratio, efficiency and power consumption in S-CO2 Brayton cycle (SCBC) as a function of rotational speed, inlet temperature, pressure and impeller structural parameters are revealed, and the method of improving SCBC efficiency for marine low-speed diesel engine flue gas waste heat recovery is studied. The optimized impeller structure is greatly enhanced in aerodynamic performance and safety, and the isentropic efficiency is increased by 2.54%, the pressure ratio is increased by 35.64%, and the temperature rise is increased by only 4.6%. A 100kW S-CO2 compression cycle test bench was set up to verify the simulation-optimized impeller results. The final results show that the optimized impeller structure, aerodynamic performance and safety are greatly improved. It provides theoretical support for selecting and optimising compressor impellers for marine low-speed diesel engine flue gas waste heat recovery S-CO2 Brayton cycle. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
