Due to their highly flexible deployment and agility features, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) serving as aerial base stations are increasingly being used in challenging environments, including emergency communication, traffic offloading, and failures of existing communications infrastructure. A reliable and effective communication service requires 3D deployment and autonomous UAV trajectory optimization in each time slot. While most prior approaches focus on trajectory design that maximizes communication coverage or network throughput without considering fairness as well as computation time. This paper presents a multi-UAV trajectory control and fair communication (TCFC) scheme that maximizes ground user data rate and communication coverage while ensuring service fairness in a UAV-aided wireless communications system. The proposed TCFC scheme employs a two-stage learning approach. Firstly, it develops a gated recurrent unit-based link quality estimation model to assess each user's link quality over time. Then, a federated multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (FedMADRL) algorithm is utilized to continuously adjust the trajectory of the UAVs, optimizing communication performance. We evaluated our proposed system using real channel measurement data, i.e., amplitude and phase signal information. The results show that the proposed TCFC scheme reduces computation time by 26.91% and provides comparable network performance with the baseline methods while improving DRL agents' privacy. © 2025 IEEE.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are essential for gene expression, and the complex RNA-protein interaction mechanisms require analysis of global RNA information. Therefore, accurate prediction of RBP binding sites on full-length RNA transcripts is crucial for understanding these mechanisms and their roles in diseases. While machine learning methods can predict RBP binding to RNA fragments, extending this to full-length transcripts presents challenges due to sequence length and data imbalance. In this paper, we introduce RBP-Former, a binding site joint prediction model designed specifically for full-length RNA transcripts that can be used for multiple RBPs. This model processes information at both coarse and fine-grained levels to fully exploit sequence data and its interactions with multiple RBPs. We develop multi-level imbalance learning strategies, achieving favorable results on imbalanced data. Our method outperforms existing methods in predicting binding sites on full-length RNA transcripts for multiple RBPs, demonstrating its effectiveness in handling imbalanced label and sample distributions. © 2024 IEEE.

Assemble-to-Order (ATO) has become a popular production strategy for the increasing demand for mass-customized manufacturing. In order to facilitate a flexible and automated Human-Robot-Collaboration system for ATO, we propose a Learning from Demonstration (LfD) framework based on 2D videos in this paper. We initially combine temporal hand motions with spatial hand-object interactions to detect assembly actions. Therefore, an assembly graph can be constructed using classified action sequences. Compared to previous studies on task planning for robots, our graph-based semantic planner can directly learn the demonstrated task structure and thus produce more detailed assistive robot actions for more effective collaboration. We validate our approach by applying it to a real-world ATO problem. The results demonstrated that our proposed system can produce actions adaptively in response to varying human action sequences, as well as guide human assembly when the robot is not involved. Our approach also shows generalizability to unseen human action sequences.

The problems associated with the operation of overhead power lines and ways of improving control over their condition with the help of UAVs are considered. A structural diagram of the system of technical diagnostics of overhead lines based on UAVs was developed, for which the necessary diagnostic parameters were selected according to informative criteria. An analysis of types of UAVs was carried out in order to determine their suitability and efficiency of use for diagnosing the condition of overhead lines. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of autonomous systems in military drone operations signifies a paradigm shift in modern warfare strategies, and modern warfare emphasizes the crucial role of military drones to the extent that it is called drone war. Despite the importance of these military drones, the efficiency of such operations hinges on the swarm military drones’ ability to operate cooperatively in complex battlefield environments where the target changes dynamically. The proposed algorithm for robust and reliable military drones needs to consider a total of three objectives, i.e., (i) cooperative swarm flight maintenance, (ii) target bombing zone maximization, and (iii) energy efficiency optimization. For this objective, multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MARL) is utilized for the cooperation of military drones to achieve these objectives optimally. Lastly, this paper considers ‘Shahed-136’ which is one of well-known military drones for realistic battlefield evaluation. Additionally, the military drones employing the proposed algorithm are evaluated in a large-scale battlefield environment spanning 4×104 km3. This paper assesses the efficacy of the proposed approach through simulations that evaluate the swarm flight, success rate of bombing, and energy efficiency of drones, particularly under dynamic target conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Concept-Level Semantic Transfer and Context-Level Distribution Modeling for Few-Shot Segmentation

Few-shot segmentation (FSS) methods aim to segment objects using only a few pixel-level annotated samples. Current approaches either derive a generalized class representation from support samples to guide the segmentation of query samples, which often discards crucial spatial contextual information, or rely heavily on spatial affinity between support and query samples, without adequately summarizing and utilizing the core information of the target class. Consequently, the former struggles with fine detail accuracy, while the latter tends to produce errors in overall localization. To address these issues, we propose a novel FSS framework, CCFormer, which balances the transmission of core semantic concepts with the modeling of spatial context, improving both macro and micro-level segmentation accuracy. Our approach introduces three key modules: (1) the Concept Perception Generation (CPG) module, which leverages pre-trained category perception capabilities to capture high-quality core representations of the target class;(2) the Concept-Feature Integration (CFI) module, which injects the core class information into both support and query features during feature extraction;and (3) the Contextual Distribution Mining (CDM) module, which utilizes a Brownian Distance Covariance matrix to model the spatial-channel distribution between support and query samples, preserving the fine-grained integrity of the target. Experimental results on the PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i datasets demonstrate that CCFormer achieves state-of-the-art performance, with visualizations further validating its effectiveness. This paper develops a data-driven stabilization method for continuous-time linear time-invariant systems with theoretical guarantees and no need for signal derivatives. The framework, based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), is illustrated in the state-feedback and single-input single-output output-feedback scenarios. Similar to discrete-time approaches, we rely solely on input and state/output measurements. To avoid differentiation, we employ low-pass filters of the available signals that, rather than approximating the derivatives, reconstruct a non-minimal realization of the plant. With access to the filter states and their derivatives, we can solve LMIs derived from sample batches of the available signals to compute a dynamic controller that stabilizes the plant. The effectiveness of the framework is showcased through numerical examples. © 2024, CC BY.

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability. © 2025 IEEE.
