Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability.

Sustainability is a pressing global challenge demanding an integrated approach balancing economic, environmental, and social perspectives. Numerous indicators have been proposed in the literature to assess progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including equitable and sustainable well-being (BES). To effectively manage and monitor these indicators, robust analytical models are essential. The present study proposed an integrated analytical framework combining the 0–1 (min–max) method and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The analysis examined 61 indicators from the 2024 Equitable and Sustainable Well-being of the Territories, a dataset developed by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) to assess regional social, economic, and environmental sustainability across Italy. The results confirmed a persistent north–south divide, with average scores of 3.9 in the north and 1.4 in the south on a 1–5 scale, and central Italy demonstrating an intermediate performance of 3.1. At the regional level, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardia, and Valle d'Aosta emerged as top performers, while at the territorial level, Milano, Bologna, and Trieste stood out. These insights highlight the need for stronger synergies between territories to enhance competitiveness and elevate “Made in Italy” on the global stage. Effective regional collaboration may optimize resource allocation, harmonize territorial disparities, and accelerate progress toward the SDGs by leveraging local strengths and fostering sustainable development. © 2025 The Author(s)

Abstraction-Based Verification of Approximate Pre-Opacity for control systems

In this paper, we consider the problem of verifying pre-opacity for discrete-time control systems. Preopacity is an important information-flow security property that secures the intention of a system to execute some secret behaviors in the future. Existing works on pre-opacity only consider non-metric discrete systems, where it is assumed that intruders can distinguish different output behaviors precisely. However, for continuous-space control systems whose output sets are equipped with metrics (which is the case for most real-world applications), it is too restrictive to assume precise measurements from outside observers. In this paper, we first introduce a concept of approximate pre-opacity by capturing the security level of control systems with respect to the measurement precision of the intruder. Based on this new notion of pre-opacity, we propose a verification approach for continuous-space control systems by leveraging abstraction-based techniques. In particular, a new concept of approximate pre-opacity preserving simulation relation is introduced to characterize the distance between two systems in terms of preserving pre-opacity. This new system relation allows us to verify pre-opacity of complex continuous-space control systems using their finite abstractions. We also present a method to construct pre-opacity preserving finite abstractions for a class of discrete-time control systems under certain stability assumptions. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. How improve the mapping efficiency and location accuracy of the multi-UAV cluster based on the distributed SLAM technology is a significant problem in overlapping regions. Therefore, this paper mainly proposes a novel relocation recognition algorithm for the multi-UAV cluster. First, the autonomous localization algorithm based on visual-inertial fusion is proposed. Then, the algorithm for vocabulary updating and relocating is designed. Finally, practical testing is implemented to verify and improve the efficiency of exploration ability and the accuracy of the autonomous navigation and positioning in the complex overlapping regions. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in fault tolerance methods for cloud computing. Maintaining high availability and reliability of cloud environments requires fault tolerance. This paper explores fault tolerance in the context of cloud computing and discusses recent challenges and innovations in the field. Moreover, it examines the ongoing research efforts to improve fault-tolerance architectures. At the end of the paper, the paper presents system-level metrics that are relevant to fault tolerance.

This paper considers the global finite time stabilization of linear systems subject to actuator saturation. We show that a controllable SISO system whose eigenvalues are real and negative can be globally stabilized in finite time by a homogeneous feedback law. To obviate numerical issues, this homogeneous feedback law is implemented by discretizing a compact set. Numerical simulation validates the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

When EEG signals are used to assess the level of student engagement in online teaching tasks, they are often interfered by noise. It is a challenge to effectively remove these noises. Currently, deep learning methods have been applied to the field of EEG denoising. However, existing methods still have some problems. The denoised signals still have obvious noise residue, or the original EEG signals are damaged, and the model fitting speed is too slow. Image dehazing, as a typical denoising task in the field of image enhancement, has achieved great success in recent years. Therefore, inspired by advanced models in this field, we introduce CNN into EEG denoising tasks. In this paper, we take GCANet, an excellent image enhancement model, as an example. The dilated convolutions and gate fusion subnetworks included in GCANet enable more efficient EEG signal denoising. The results demonstrate that the proposed model effectively reduces noise while preserving essential features. Furthermore, in comparison to other state-of-the-art models, our proposed model exhibits enhanced robustness and faster convergence, as evidenced by achieving lower loss values after five epochs. Its good performance provides a new development idea for the field of EEG denoising. © 2023, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. All rights reserved.

The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into robotics has revolutionized human-robot interactions and autonomous task planning. However, these systems are often unable to self-correct during the task execution, which hinders their adaptability in dynamic real-world environments. To address this issue, we present an LLM-based Hierarchical Closed-loop Robotic Intelligent Self-correction Planner (HiCRISP), an innovative framework that enables robots to correct errors within individual steps during the task execution. HiCRISP actively monitors and adapts the task execution process, addressing both high-level planning and low-level action errors. Extensive benchmark experiments, encompassing virtual and real-world scenarios, showcase HiCRISP’s exceptional performance, positioning it as a promising solution for robotic task planning with LLMs. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers achieve higher importance due to the high expansion rate of photovoltaic systems. The probability of partial shading conditions (PSCs) is also increased which drastically reduced the maximum power extraction capability from PV systems. In this paper, different types of MPPT algorithms using direct control method have been examined under the same test conditions. The current research trend on MPPT controllers has also been highlighted. Strike a Balance in Continual Panoptic Segmentation

This study explores the emerging area of continual panoptic segmentation, highlighting three key balances. First, we introduce past-class backtrace distillation to balance the stability of existing knowledge with the adaptability to new information. This technique retraces the features associated with past classes based on the final label assignment results, performing knowledge distillation targeting these specific features from the previous model while allowing other features to flexibly adapt to new information. Additionally, we introduce a class-proportional memory strategy, which aligns the class distribution in the replay sample set with that of the historical training data. This strategy maintains a balanced class representation during replay, enhancing the utility of the limited-capacity replay sample set in recalling prior classes. Moreover, recognizing that replay samples are annotated only for the classes of their original step, we devise balanced anti-misguidance losses, which combat the impact of incomplete annotations without incurring classification bias. Building upon these innovations, we present a new method named Balanced Continual Panoptic Segmentation (BalConpas). Our evaluation on the challenging ADE20K dataset demonstrates its superior performance compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
