The papers in this special section address distributed signal processing applications that support security and privacy in networked cyber-physical systems. Networked cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are engineering systems with integrated computational and communication capabilities that interact with humans through cyber space. The CPSs have recently emerged in several practical applications of significant engineering importance including aerospace, industrial/manufacturing process control, multimedia networks, transportation systems, power grids, and medical systems. The CPSs typically consist of both wireless and wired sensor/agent networks with different capacity/reliability levels where the emphasis is on real-time operations, and performing distributed, secure, and optimal sensing/processing is the key concern. To satisfy these requirements of the CPSs, it is of paramount importance to design innovative Signal Processing tools to provide unprecedented performance and resource utilization efficiency. © 2015 IEEE.

Anesthesia is considered as one of the most important part of any surgical operation due to this it must be good monitored and controlled, i.e. the rate of infusion must be given an inappropriate dose to save the patient status in an adequate level of anesthesia. The model translates the relation between the drug used and patient response is pharmacokinetic pharmacodynamic (PK/PD). Bispectral index (BIS) is the most standard for maintaining the Anesthesia level. In this paper an optimal PID controller with neural network consists of one neuron is presented to evaluate the drug infusion rate, the system input will be the propofol drug rate, and the level of hypnosis will be the system output since it is measured during surgery from the monitor of the BIS device. optimal controller will calculate the infusion rate by using particle swarm optimization (PSO) method for tuning all the variables needed to find the optimal rate and considered it as a control signal. Then all the result is obtained by Matlab software and the hardware implantation is done using the Integrated Synthesis Environment from Xilinx ISE version 14.6 and downloaded on Spartan 3 Kit (XC3SD3400ACS484-4 by). The output results obtained from the controller in measuring the value of the infusion rate and tracking the BIS value for different patients show its efficiency and robustness in measuring the Depth of Anesthesia (DOA) correctly.

We consider the problem of semi-global leader-following output consensus for a group of agents, consisting of a leader agent and some follower agents, which are described by discrete-time linear systems and connected on a directed network. For each follower agent, a distributed observer is built that estimates the state of the leader. Based on the estimates of the leader state and the solution of a parameterized algebraic Riccati equation, we design low gain consensus protocols that are shown to solve the semi-global output consensus problem as long as the leader agent is reachable globally on the network. Numerical simulation shows the performance of the proposed consensus protocols. © 2018 IEEE.

The technology of bactericidal and sterilizing processing of Koch's Bacillus on the basis of pulsed electromagnetic ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been proposed. This technology is based on the pulse method of bactericidal processing of objects with low-temperature plasma using pulse sterilizer developed by the authors. The mathematical model of generating broadband pulsed radiation by the source of powerful optical radiation, based on the technique of charged particles accelerator, has been developed. The structure of the electromagnetic radiation source of the high-intensity optical range has been presented. The research of the bactericidal effect of pulsed UV radiation on Koch's bacillus has been conducted.

In this paper, we study the semi-global output containment control problem of a multi-agent system in the presence of actuator saturation over a directed network. The leader and follower agents are of different dynamics, and the follower agents are affected by disturbances generated by the leader agents through directed paths in the communication topology. The control objective of the output containment control is to drive the output trajectories of the follower agents to converge to the convex hull spanned by the outputs of the leader agents in the presence of disturbances. Low gain feedback containment protocols are constructed based on the output regulation approach and distributed observers. It is shown that semi-global output containment control can be achieved by the proposed protocols, if each follower agent is connected to at least one leader agent through a directed path in the communication topology. Simulation results verify the theoretical conclusions.

Air pre-heater of coal-fired power plant boiler is an important piece of engineering equipment,which is designed to heat air before combustion in furnace with the primary objective of increasing the thermal efficiency of the *** paper presents a mathematical model of heat exchange,which allows for the on-line monitoring of ash fouling in air *** model is built using dynamic heat balance method,in which the cleanliness factor is used to characterize the fouling *** ash fouling model is validated by using the actual data of a 300 MW power plant *** validation results show the effectiveness of the proposed *** can be used for the soot blowing optimization in most coal-fired power plant boiler with air preheaters,not requiring additional special instruments and complex computing systems.

As for a pipe-line plant subjected to complex logical control specifications, an approach is proposed to generate the control codes via Petri net such that the plant is run as concurrently as possible. A PN model, called the plant net, is designed to represent the whole process of a pipe-line system. In this plant net, the tasks, including fluid transportation from one tank to another and cleaning tank, are represented by operational places, and level sensors in tanks are modeled by labels assigned with transitions. Further, conflict structures are used to describe the conflict relations among tasks due to the shared valves and pipes. By introducing a priority order in the transitions, an algorithm is presented to compute the control commands for valves based on this plant net. A beer filtration plant is taken as an example to illustrate the method.

Background: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. China has implemented retrofitting measures in coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) to reduce air pollution through small unit shutdown (SUS), the installation of air pollution control devices (APCDs) and power generation efficiency (PGE) improvement. The reductions in highly toxic Hg emissions and their related health impacts by these measures have not been well studied. To refine mitigation options, we evaluated the health benefits of reduced Hg emissions via retrofitting measures during China's 12th Five-Year Plan by combining plant-level Hg emission inventories with the China Hg Risk Source-Tracking Model. We found that the measures reduced Hg emissions by 23.5 tons (approximately 1/5 of that from CFPPs in 2010), preventing 0.0021 points of per-foetus intelligence quotient (IQ) decrements and 114 deaths from fatal heart attacks. These benefits were dominated by CFPP shutdowns and APCD installations. Provincial health benefits were largely attributable to Hg reductions in other regions. We also demonstrated the necessity of considering human health impacts, rather than just Hg emission reductions, in selecting Hg control devices. This study also suggests that Hg control strategies should consider various factors, such as CFPP locations, population densities and trade-offs between reductions of total Hg (THg) and Hg2+.
