Wireless/wired integrated transmission for industrial cyber-physical systems: risk-sensitive co-design of 5G and TSN protocols

The growing popularity of intelligent manufacturing is driven by deterministic transmission demands of applications in industrial cyber-physical systems(ICPS). However, the ossified shortages of industrial wireless communication such as diverse quality of service(Qo S) and complex signaling processes incur a severe long tail of transmission delay distribution. As a solution, the 5 th generation(5 G) wireless communication technology provides ultra-reliable and low-latency communication(URLLC) for industry scenarios. Moreover, the newly proposed time-sensitive networking(TSN) standards guarantee the transmission determinacy by gate mechanism. In this paper, we propose a heterogeneous time-sensitive network(HTSN) co-designed by 5 G and TSN. We first develop a predictive multi-priority wireless scheduling mechanism based on semi-persistent scheduling(SPS) to reduce signaling delay by reserving resources in *** we propose an adaptive data injection mechanism for TSN based on per-stream filtering and policing(PSFP), which dynamically adjusts the priority of data for queue injection in TSN. To further reduce the long tail of delay, we employ a risk-sensitive learning method to improve the worst-case delay. Simulations on a hot rolling production scenario demonstrate that the proposed mechanisms under HTSN achieve great performance in terms of integrated delay and resource utilization.

Cooperative coevolution (CC) algorithms, based on the divide-and-conquer strategy, have emerged as the predominant approach to solving large-scale global optimization (LSGO) problems. The efficiency and accuracy of the grouping stage significantly impact the performance of the optimization process. While the general separability grouping (GSG) method has overcome the limitation of previous differential grouping (DG) methods by enabling the decomposition of nonadditively separable functions, it suffers from high computational complexity. To address this challenge, this article proposes a composite separability grouping (CSG) method, seamlessly integrating DG and GSG into a problem decomposition framework to utilize the strengths of both approaches. CSG introduces a step-by-step decomposition framework that accurately decomposes various problem types using fewer computational resources. By sequentially identifying additively, multiplicatively and generally separable variables, CSG progressively groups nonseparable variables by recursively considering the interactions between each nonseparable variable and the formed nonseparable groups. Furthermore, to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of CSG, we introduce two innovative methods: a multiplicatively separable variable detection method and a nonseparable variable grouping method. These two methods are designed to effectively detect multiplicatively separable variables and efficiently group nonseparable variables, respectively. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that CSG achieves more accurate variable grouping with lower computational complexity compared to GSG and state-of-the-art DG-series designs. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, Transformer-based prohibited object detection methods in X-ray images appear constantly, but there are still some shortcomings such as poor performance and high computational complexity for prohibited object detection with heavily occlusion. Therefore, a coarse to fine detection method for prohibited object in X-ray images based on progressive Transformer decoder is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a coarse to fine framework is proposed, which includes two stages: coarse detection and fine detection. Through adaptive inference in stages, the computational efficiency of the model is effectively improved. Then, a position and class object queries method is proposed, which improves the convergence speed and detection accuracy of the model by fusing the position and class information of prohibited object with object queries. Finally, a progressive Transformer decoder is proposed, which distinguishes high and low score queries by decreasing confidence thresholds, so that high-score queries are not affected by low-score queries in the decoding stage, and the model can focus more on decoding low-score queries, which usually correspond to prohibited object with severe occlusion. The experimental results on three public benchmark datasets (SIXray, OPIXray, HiXray) demonstrate that compared with the baseline DETR, the proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art detection accuracy with a 21.6% reduction in model computational complexity. Especially for prohibited objects with heavily occlusion, accurate detection can be carried out. © 2024 ACM.

Question-Answer Cross Language Image Matching for Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Class Activation Map (CAM) has emerged as a popular tool for weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS), allowing the localization of object regions in an image using only image-level labels. However, existing CAM methods suffer from under-activation of target object regions and false-activation of background regions due to the fact that a lack of detailed supervision can hinder the model’s ability to understand the image as a whole. In this paper, we propose a novel Question-Answer Cross-Language-Image Matching framework for WSSS (QA-CLIMS), leveraging the vision-language foundation model to maximize the text-based understanding of images and guide the generation of activation maps. First, a series of carefully designed questions are posed to the VQA (Visual Question Answering) model with Question-Answer Prompt engineering (QAPE) to generate a corpus of both foreground target objects and backgrounds that are adaptive to query images. We then employ contrastive learning in a Region Image Text Contrastive (RITC) network to compare the obtained foreground and background regions with the generated corpus. Our approach exploits the rich textual information from the open vocabulary as additional supervision, enabling the model to generate high-quality CAMs with a more complete object region and reduce false-activation of background regions. We conduct extensive analysis to validate the proposed method and show that our approach performs state-of-the-art on both PASCAL VOC 2012 and MS COCO datasets. The occurrence of geological disasters can have a large impact on urban safety. Protecting people’s safety is the most important concern when disasters occur. Safety improvement requires a large amount of comprehensive and representative risk analysis and a large collection of information related to geological hazards, including unstructured knowledge and experience. To address the relevant information and support safety risk analysis, a geological hazard knowledge graph is developed automatically based on computer vision and domain-geoscience ontology to identify geological hazards from input images while obeying safety rules and regulations, even when affected by changes. In the implementation of the knowledge graph, we design an ontology schema of geological disasters based on a top-down approach, and by organizing knowledge as a logical semantic expression, it can be shared using ontology technologies and therefore enable semantic interoperability. computer vision approaches are then used to automatically detect a set of entities and attributes, using the data from input images, and object types and their attributes are identified so that they can be stored in Neo4j for reasoning and searching. Finally, a reasoning model for geological hazard identification was developed using the Neo4j database to create nodes, relationships, and their properties for modeling, and geological hazards in the images can be automatically identified by searching the Neo4j database. An application on geological hazard is presented. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of identifying possible potential hazards in geological hazards and assisting in formulating targeted preventive measures.

Existing 3D point cloud-based facial recognition struggles to fully leverage both global and local information inherent in the 3D point cloud data. In this paper, we introduce the PointFaceFormer, the first Transformer model designed for 3D point cloud face recognition. It incorporates an attention mechanism based on dot product and cosine functions to construct a similarity Transformer architecture, which effectively extracts both local and global features from the point cloud data. Experimental results demonstrate that PointFaceFormer achieves a recognition accuracy of 89.08% and a verification accuracy of 76.93% on the large-scale facial point cloud dataset Lock3DFace, which is a new state-of-the-art in 3D face recognition. Furthermore, PointFaceFormer exhibits excellent generalization performance on cross-quality datasets. Additionally, we validate the effectiveness of the attention mechanism through ablation experiments, which justify the effectiveness of the proposed modules.

Federated learning-based model marketplaces have the potential to securely leverage healthcare data for efficient healthcare transactions. However, the willingness to participate in this marketplace is severely hindered by self-interested model sellers, who maximize their personal gains via distorting the quality of their models. To this end, we propose a rePutation-driven hierArchical inCentive mEchanism, called PACE, which combines contract cooperation and game pricing to motivate model sellers to be honest, thereby improving the sustainability of the model marketplace via two-layer cooperation. Specifically, at the training layer, we design a reward payment rule based on multidimensional contracts, while at the trading layer, we use a competitive market pricing game to develop the accuracy pricing rule. In particular, the above rules cleverly combine the fine-grained model sellers' reputations with the willingness of healthcare devices to indirectly affect the model sellers' utilities. Theoretically, we prove that PACE can effectively incentivize model sellers to truthfully report model quality while satisfying both individual rationality and incentive compatibility with a fairness guarantee. Experimental results conducted on four real-world datasets show that our PACE improves the global performance by up to 12.85% and reduces the global loss by at least 19.23% compared with the state-of-the-art baselines. © 1975-2011 IEEE.
