This paper reports an efficient method to measure fluid viscosity in microchannels using hydrodynamic diverging chamber and digital counting. A proposed microfluidic viscometer is designed to have two inlets for sample as well as reference fluids, and a divergencing channel with 89 channels for digital counting. DI water and SDS solutions are used as a reference fluid and a sample fluid, respectively. The viscosities measured by the proposed microfluidic viscometer are compared with the ones measured by a commercially available viscometer (HAAKE MARS). The averaged deviation for four different viscosities measured by both viscometers is only about 2.5 %. Additionally, the microfluidic viscometer gives more consistent value, especially in low shear rate regime.

Validation results are discussed and compared in confirming the tendency of certain parameters being well represented by simulation with the actual equivalent at-sea test result. The primary objective of this field of study is to determine the feasibility of applying full motion simulators and plug and play simulations in support of manned or unmanned aircraft-ship dynamic interface at-sea testing and experimentation. Several years of simulated flight test programs using the Merlin CAE Trainer system at RNAS Culdrose (UK) and the Manned Flight Simulator at Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division at Patuxent River, Maryland have been conducted. A typical simulation consists of modular "plug and play" components contributed by the project participants assembled in a High Level Architecture (HLA) with the combined components reflecting the ship environment, the long and short term prediction methodologies and the ship's response mechanism. The use of 6 degree-of-freedom motion flight simulator to forecast physical deck motion and deck motion limits, is discussed. In the manned version, the simulated flight test has several objectives including assess the capabilities of the Cockpit Dynamic Simulator (CDS) to support Ship-Helicopter Operational Limit (SHOL) / Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) limits;demonstrate High Level Architecture (HLA) with selected modules;and determine feasibility of applying these simulators in support of dynamic interface at-sea testing. An application of this simulation is the forecast of manned and unmanned deck limits computed by the motion characterization of a platform in terms of, and as a function of, the deflection of landing gear configured for vertical landing aircraft or rolling vertical landing. Of some significance is the conversion of empirical manned scales, like Deck Interface Pilot Effort Scale (DIPES), into a deck limiting quantitative value. The development of the HIFU therapy for the deeply placed cancer such as the liver cancer and brain cancer has been desired. One problem is the displacement of the focal point due to the reflection and refraction of ultrasound. In the present study, the HIFU therapy for the brain cancer through a skull with a bowl-shape array transducer is performed numerically. Our approach is to solve the mass and momentum equations for mixture with the equation of state of media. The nonlinearity is mainly taken into account through the equation of state of the media. The three-dimensional controllability of the focal point by the array transducer with a phase delay is examined. As the result of the ultrasound propagation through the skull with the phase delay, we obtain a clear focal point where the peak pressure is higher than that without the phase delay. Therefore, the array transducer with the appropriate phase delay enables to assign the focal point to the target adequately, even if the ultrasound propagates through the inhomogeneous medium as a human skull.
