Since the 1950s, AT&T has provided underwater detection equipment to the U.S. Navy to satisfy the navy's two-tier mission of studying the ocean and developing and testing sonar systems. The latest generation of hardware is a fiber-optic system that has the transmission capacity of all the previous systems combined. Its design and development has provided a challenge both from the technical aspect of meeting stringent performance requirements and from the engineering aspect of managing a large defense program having a budget greater than $500 million. Following a brief summary of AT&T's history in the development and manufacture of underwater acoustic detection hardware, this paper provides a technical description of the fiber-optic system and a project history describing the processes used in bringing the equipment into production. During the period of program execution (1989 to the present), systems engineering management philosophy has evolved from strict now-down of requirements via military standards to concurrent engineering and product-realization teams. The Fixed Distributed system (FDS) project has followed the same route, partly by design and partly by necessity. It provided some valuable lessons that have been learned and incorporated into the present AT&T Advanced Technology systems (ATS) engineering process, which has been the basis for AT&T Best Current Practices in systems engineering.

There will be vibrations caused by friction between the rotating workpiece and the insert on the boring bar during the boring process. Vibrations that occur in the workpiece can be suppressed with a Dynamic Vibration Absorber (DVA). Therefore, the boring process produces a rough surface and damages the components of the lathe. In this research, DVA is placed on a workpiece by utilizing force damping in the radial direction and it is called as Rubber Radial Vibration Damper (RRVD) with rubber as a damping element. An analysis of the effect of RRVD addition on the vibration reduction response of the workpiece was carried out. The variations in this study are mass of RRVD (AISI 4340 and Copper Alloy), cutting parameters, and the ratio of length per diameter (L/D) of the workpiece overhang 7, 8, and 9. The simulation results showed that the main system's highest natural frequency and amplitude occurred at the L/D 7 without RRVD or with RRVD. In addition, the RRVD Copper Alloy mass variation has a lower natural frequency and amplitude than the AISI 4340. Based on this research, it was found that the most stable and well-reduced system was in the main system with L/D 8 and using RRVD Copper Alloy mass. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Although deep learning has resulted in tremendous success for image classification processing, speech processing, and video detection processing applications in recent years, most of the training uses sub-optimal hyperparameters, requiring unnecessarily long training time. The Setting hyperparameters remains a black box which requires considerable experience to acquire. This study proposes several efficient ways to adjust hyperparameters that significantly reduce training time and improve model performance. Hyperparameters are used for the classification of arrhythmias. Classification is used for 16 classes that get an accuracy value 98.88%. Apart from tuning learning rate and batch size, this research also tried several scenarios of optimizer, ratio training set, validation set, and testing set;where the ratio 70 : 10 : 20 makes a significant contribution to the accuracy value. © 2023 IEEE.

The realization of the mass use of renewable energy needs to be supported by various parties, including Indonesia, which is a country that has great potential in the use of renewable energy. The community, government, and private parties who become developers in this regard need to realize the main potential of regions in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the prediction results of renewable energy in Indonesia, especially the potential for solar and wind energy. The method used in this research is machine learning with a random forest algorithm. Random forest classification prediction modeling was carried out using R software. The data samples used were data on maximum temperature, minimum temperature, average temperature, average humidity, duration of sunshine, and average wind speed from 34 provinces in Indonesia. Based on the prediction results with random forest, the average accuracy of the random forest classification model ranges from 81-92%. So, it can be said that the model can provide reasonable predictions. Based on random forest predictions, the classification of the largest level of solar energy potential is in 3 main areas, namely the provinces of East N usa Tenggara, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara. While the areas with the greatest wind energy potential are in 3 provinces, namely Kep. Bangka Belitung, East Nusa Tenggara, and East Java. The province of East Nusa Tenggara has a high potential for solar and wind energy. The potential duration of solar radiation reaches 10.6 hours per day, while the average wind speed reaches 4 m/s per day. The results of this study are expected to be input for parties who play a role in developing renewable energy in Indonesia to support the renewable energy mix target of 23 % by 2025. © 2022 IEEE.

Tidal power generation (TPG) provides a predictable and stable energy supply, making it a valuable complement to variable renewable sources such as solar and wind. However, its commercial viability remains constrained by high capital costs, complex installation requirements, and limited specialised infrastructure. This study assesses the economic feasibility of TPG in the Seto Inland Sea in Japan using the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) as a benchmark for competitiveness. The findings indicated that with a 10 % discount rate, the LCOE ave is approximately 85,990 ¥/MWh, whereas a 5 % discount rate reduces it to 31,088 ¥/MWh. The estimated annual energy production (AEP) was 374,640 MWh, sufficient to supply 89,735 households, with an equivalent CO₂ reduction of approximately 166,000 tons per year. Achieving cost competitiveness for TPGs requires large-scale deployment and supportive government incentives. Expanding infrastructure and leveraging economies of volume are crucial for reducing costs and enabling broader adoption. Despite existing challenges, TPG holds significant potential for enhancing Japan's energy security and contributing to its decarbonisation goals. This potential depends on effective grid integration, strong policy support, and sustained strategic investment.

Many regions in Indonesia are still lack of electricity due to geographical condition in the form of archipelago, including Tanjung Balai Karimun District, in Kepulauan Riau Province, Indonesia. Therefore, using local renewable resources to fulfill load demand is better than relying on utility grid. The potential of using biomass waste, for instance oil palm and coconut residues, as renewable energy resources should be an optional decision to make improvement, not only for the reliability of existing power system itself but also to meet the load demand generally available in every region of Indonesia. In 2016, Karimun Regency in Riau Islands Province as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is growing rapidly in economic and facing electrical energy crisis simultaneously. Addressing this problem, the government has taken an action by making amendment on the policy that consciously planned to increase the capacity of power plants, in particular Oil and Gas Power Plants (OGPP) in the period of 2018-2024. The objective of this study is to evaluate the reliability of Tanjung Balai Karimun power system based on its Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) index designed during the planning period of power plant addition. Then, the value of new LOLP index was recalculated after integrating new system of Biomass Power Plant (BPP). Based on LOLP calculation using recursive method, LOLP index in 2018 decreased from 3.63 days/year to 2.05 days/year, reflecting quality improvement of the power plant reliability. Integrating BPP into the existing power plant has powered up the capacity of 2.8 MW according to the availability of oil palm and coconut biomass waste. © 2019 IEEE.

The oil refinery industry has a potential emission reduction by combining its fossil fuel with Renewable Energy usage. One alternative to reduce carbon emissions is the hybrid power system using solar panels for electricity generation. This research will observe the optimum scenario for utilizing a hybrid power system. The research subject is observed refinery facilities that will be built in Indonesia, where the electricity source used formerly comes from fossils. The monitored parameters are Cost of Energy (COE) and carbon emission. optimization involves three scenarios involving basic and hybrid configurations. The basic scenario is the initial configuration of the electricity supply with power source from the generator and PLN (national's utility). The first scenario is a hybrid power plant utilizing the roofs of existing buildings in the refinery area. The second is a hybrid power plant with a battery to supply electricity at night, at the capacity of renewable energy (RE) of 20% and 40%. Compared to the basic scenario, scenario 1 increases COE by 0.17% and reduces carbon emission at 0.3% compared to the basic scenario. Scenario 2 with 20% and 40% of renewable energy are obtained at COE of 4.7% and 44.3%, while reducing emissions occurred at 38% and 52.7%, respectively. The scenario of a hybrid power system with a 20% renewable energy is the optimal result compared to the other scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel approach to estimate and compensate for the misalignment between the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) sensors. Estimating the location and attitude of an ROV usually combines the attitude by IMU and the velocity by the DVL provided in the sensor coordinate system. The attitude is regarded as the attitude of the ROV and the velocity in the sensor coordinate frame is converted to the velocity in the inertial coordinate frame. Misalignment in the DVL and IMU causes errors in the converted velocity and results in the degradation of the navigation performance. The proposed method represents the misalignment using unit quaternion. Especially, the method utilizes the Lie theory to deal with the operations on unit quaternions which constitute a Lie group, called the 3-sphere group. Simulation and testing of the method in a marine environment validate its effectiveness and practical applicability. © 2023 ICROS.

This article presents a conceptual framework entitled Project Aware Shutdown Maintenance (PASM) as a support tool for the diagnosis and establishment of managerial and operational improvements in the structuration of Maintenance Shutdowns. In order to achieve such objective, semi-structured researches were conducted and analyzed under the conceptual support of content analysis and the Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software - CAQDAS. As a complementary stage, the Shutdown Maintenance history in a business unit of a food MLE (Medium and Large Enterprise) located in Southern Brazil was studied and analyzed. So as to attest the data obtained, the maintenance managers of the enterprise were interviewed. And these elements together, under a specific methodological approach based on the project management concepts conceived by the PMI, led to the creation of the PASM.

This current work presents a proposal of a method for anatomical prosthesis modelling in order to generate the geometric parameters for the implants manufacturing. The concept of this proposed method is to fill the skull bone failure with the individual own skull shape by symmetric mirroring, from its non-affected opposed bone area. By using its own shape our main goal is to respect and preserve the individual morphology. A software prototype was developed as a plug-in at the Java based image processor (ImageJ) in order to generate a virtual 3D modelled anatomical prosthesis by applying all the proposed procedures. We apply the method upon a lateral skull failure as study case in order to demonstrate all the process and to discuss the evaluation of results.
