In this paper, we propose an Embedded Real-time Monocular SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) system for an autonomous indoor mobile robot. Autonomous mobile robots must be able to estimate and maintain the pose of the robot and the map of the environment at the same time. SLAM performs those tasks using one or more external sensors (e.g., LiDAR, Camera, and Inertial Measurement Unit). The previous SLAM system had problems with a sensor size, high power consumption, and high cost. Thus, it is hard to implement on a small indoor robot. We propose an Embedded (small size, low power consumption, and low cost) Real-time Monocular SLAM system which combines an ORB feature extraction-based SLAM (ORB-SLAM), a monocular camera, and a dynamically reconfigurable processor (DRP). This system realizes real-time (30 fps over) and low-power (less than 2 W) SLAM utilizing the hardware accelerating function of DRP. Reverse bullwhip effect in pricing (RBP) refers to the amplified variability of retail prices compared to wholesale prices. RBP effect propagates from upstream towards downstream in a supply chain. The conditions for RBP depend upon the price sensitive demand functions that eventually govern the optimized retail prices. In this study, a game-theoretic framework is used to model a supply chain that consist of multiple suppliers, a wholesaler and a retailer. Multiple suppliers compete with each other following a simultaneous auction game. There are also sequential games among each supplier and the wholesaler and the retailer. Optimization along with simulation analysis has been applied to illustrate the presence of RBP effect for linear demand functions.

Resistance of double-glove hole puncture indication systems to surgical needle puncture

Double-gloving has been shown to reduce conclusively the risk of operating room personnel's exposure to blood. Limiting risk of exposure to blood by double-gloving provides protection against the transmission of bloodborne diseases. Realizing the importance of double-gloving, a double-glove hole puncture indication system exists that accurately detects the presence of glove hole puncture in the presence of fluid. Once a glove puncture is recognized by this double-glove hole puncture indication system, it provides a warning to the surgeon to remove the punctured gloves, wash hands, and don a new, sterile double-glove hole puncture indication system. While accurately identifying the presence of glove hole puncture in the presence of fluid, this double-glove hole puncture indication system also has resistance to needle puncture superior to that of single gloves. It is the purpose of this study to document the resistance to needle puncture of latex and non-latex double-glove hole puncture indication systems using a reproducible experimental model. The resistance to needle puncture of the double-glove systems was significantly greater than that of the undergloves or outer gloves alone. The resistance to glove puncture of the non-latex and latex single and double-glove systems was significantly greater than those encountered by the latex single and double-glove systems, respectively. On the basis of their accuracy in detecting glove hole puncture, combined with their demonstrated superior resistance to surgical needle puncture as compared to single gloves, these latex and non-latex double-glove hole puncture indication systems are recommended for all surgical procedures.

We present a new protocol for information dissemination in intermittently connected networks. The objective of the protocol is to disseminate a piece of information, a podcast episode in our scenario, to a subset of nodes of the network by exploiting the random opportunistic contacts occurring among them. To allow for minimum coordination among nodes we leverage a network coding technique. Our protocol is particularly suitable for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) where the duration of a contact among two nodes is likely to be short. We present theoretical analysis of the protocol backed up by a comparison against the previously proposed E-NCP protocol using simulations. © 2010 IEEE.

Paddy is a rice-producing plant as a staple food raw material for most of the population in Indonesia. The rice planting process cannot be separated from pests and diseases that can cause crop failure and impact on rice production stocks. Currently, the process of monitoring the development of rice plants is done conventionally by direct observation by farmers. Meanwhile, in this paper, a classification model and determination of object detection in rice plants infected with pests and diseases is proposed based on leaf color. Leaf classification applies convolution conditional network algorithm with mobilenet as the architecture. The leaf image dataset was taken from public data from *** by involving 4 classes, namely healthy leaf images, brownspot, hispa and leafblast images. In each class the leaf images are grouped into 2 groups, namely 70% training and 30% validation. On the mobilenet backbone, it produces 97% accuracy and 22% loss with the time required for 195s 19s/step in 1 epoch round. © 2022 IEEE.

The application of computerised optimisation techniques to the design of low and net-zero energy buildings would provide building designers with a powerful design tool. This paper presents such a tool that is being developed that links TRNSYS energy simulation with an optimisation program based on genetic algorithms. This early design stage optimisation tool optimises 17 parameters including building width to length ratio, heating system type, solar thermal collector type and size, window sizes by orientation, and more, to find multiple design configurations that achieve a set energy consumption target.

Cloud computing will play an essential role in smart power grid by providing a cost-efficient, scalable IT platform for the delivery and management of electricity. A key component in the cloud-based smart power grid is the intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), which monitor, control, and protect the power system, and collect data back into the cloud for analysis and management. To maintain proper and robust operations of the power system, the collected data must be time-stamped under a common time reference. This in turn demands that the clocks of the distributed IEDs be synchronized to the required precision. A viable approach is to equip some of the IEDs with the Global Positioning system (GPS) as the time references and use the communication links already existing between the IEDs to synchronize the clocks of those without GPS. The question is, given a set of such references nodes, how to decide whether the clocks of all the IEDs can be synchronized to the required precision. If not, how can one add fewest reference nodes to meet the requirements? This paper addresses these issues and proposes efficient algorithms to solve the problems. © 2011 IEEE.

Nowadays, the main problem we found in most Smartphones is the poor battery life when using applications that make an intensive use of connectivity services. This becomes a serious problem in specific applications such as telemedicine;where services such as WiFi and 3G connection are the largest consumers of energy, but are essential for the transfer of data required by these applications. This paper examines different energy consumption studies on mobile devices via WiFi and 3G. After this analysis, we propose a strategy for choosing the network with lower energy consumption based on the characteristics of the data transfer that the application requires. © 2013 Infonomics Society.

Sasirangan cloth is one of the traditional cloths owned by Indonesia and is a typical cloth originating from the province of South Kalimantan. This Sasirangan cloth has many motifs and is unique. Sasirangan cloth is also one of the potentials that can attract local and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan. However, in recent years, tourist visits to South Kalimantan have decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it also has an impact on the delay in the implementation of the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival which is usually held annually. The next impact is a decrease in turnover and interest in shopping for Sasirangan cloth, so that employees who work for Sasirangan cloth craftsmen are dismissed and reduce people's income. So the purpose of this study is to report the results of the development of a Virtual Reality Game application called VR-SasiranganKu by integrating the interaction of Non-Player Character (NPC) behavior with the type of narrative in the simulation genre game. VR-SasiranganKu is recommended to introduce and at the same time promote Sasirangan cloth to users, then justify the reaction to knowledge and shopping experience, and evaluate user experience using the UX Honeycomb method. Respondents involved as many as 100 people who are local and national tourists. The results show that the interaction of NPC behavior can provide good direction to users regarding the introduction of Sasirangan cloth by presenting an appropriate interaction design based on the narrative and the theme of the NPC that has been adopted, the results of justification using VR-SasiranganKu can provide knowledge reaction and very good shopping experience, and based on user experience evaluation that VR-SasiranganKu has adopted a very good UX with an average score of 4.91. © 2022 IEEE.

In this study, dopamine passivated carbon nanodots (C-dots) were fabricated to detect ferric ions (Fe3+) sensitivity and selectivity. Photoluminescence (PL) intensity of C-dots was turned on after adding phenyl boric acid. Depending on the interesting PL property, we investigated a novel strategy for Fe3+detection. Comparing to the previous papers used complicated and tedious process to fabricate nanomaterial-based probes for Fe3+ sensing, the one-pot hydrothermal method spend only 2 h to prepare C-dots from dopamine and trisodium citrate. The limit of detection (LOD) is 5.8 nM, which is lower than these papers.
