The growing availability of high power semiconductor devices and the increasing necessity of high power converters in power systems and industry applications demand the use of multilevel converters topologies, such as the 3-level neutral point clamped voltage source converter. The tradeoff in designing this kind of converter is between switching losses and fast dynamic control. The size and cost of passive filters is also an important technological barrier, mainly when dealing with active rectifiers. Among the well-known pulse width modulation strategies, selective harmonic elimination (SHE) techniques has proven their advantages in producing the lowest harmonic content waveform for a low switching frequency. The main drawbacks of these methods are the assumption of steady-state conditions for switching angles calculation and the storage of switching angles' tables of considerable size. This paper deals with these two issues by proposing the application of the correlation factor method to reduce these tables, analyzing the frequency response of the modulator and implementing a current control scheme in dq frame. These methodologies are also applied to a true unity power factor (TUPF) rectifier which eliminates the use of input filters. Simulation results show the efficiency of these proposals. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper describes the application of real time vision system for dynamic tracking of moving objects, using image motion. The study encompasses experimental development of an Intelligent system that works in ordinary light and is capable of tracking moving objects with unpredictable motion. In this research the task of mobile target tracking using a pan-and-tilt camera is considered with motion-based dynamic target tracking to deal with complex targets (shape and motion pattern unknown). We propose a method based on retrieving the target position in the image from its estimated motion. Our proposed method is based on obtaining a desired 2-D motion field in the image sequence. In this study we link variations of visual features linearly to the camera velocity. Stereovision technique is used to calculate the maximum angular displacement to retrieve the object position in image and to get the direction of motion of the object. The results are obtained in a real time test environment and are discussed. We developed the program in C++ language for linking all the algorithms in one chain. The complete target tracking algorithm works in a real time mode and can be utilized for a number of applications. © 2005 IEEE.

Low-Rate Denial of Service (LDoS) attacks, an emerging breed of DoS attacks, present a formidable challenge in terms of their detectability. Within the realm of network security, these attacks cast a substantial shadow over the availability and integrity of services. This study seeks to delve into the intricate mechanics of LDoS attacks and explore the landscape of developed detection methodologies. Employing bibliometric analysis, we employ a multifaceted approach to gather research insights pertaining to LDoS attack detection. This approach encompasses the examination of evolving research trends, scrutiny of widely cited scientific publications within the same domain, identification of prolific researchers shaping the field, and a judicious selection of reputable publishers for dependable information acquisition. Furthermore, our study undertakes a meticulous categorization and classification of previously proposed LDoS detection methods documented in well-established scientific literature. This endeavor not only provides a more profound comprehension of the evolutionary trajectory and thematic thrusts within LDoS attack detection research, but it also facilitates the identification of gaps and directions for future exploration. The culmination of these analytical efforts culminates in a comprehensive framework. This contribution manifests through structured categorization, classification, and a forward-looking research roadmap, which collectively serve as valuable tools for both current and aspiring researchers engaged in LDoS attack detection. In summary, this research not only delves into the complexities of LDoS attacks and their mechanisms but also augments the current understanding of detection capabilities. This paper proposes an executable system architecting paradigm for discrete event system modeling and analysis through integration of a set of architecting tools, executable modeling tools, analytical tools, and visualization tools. The essential step is translating SysML-based specifications into Colored Petri Nets (CPNs) which enables rigorous static and dynamic system analysis as well as formal verification of the behavior and functionality of the SysML-based design. A set of tools have been studied and integrated that enable a structured architecture design process. Some basic principles of executable system architecture for discrete event system modeling that guide the process of executable architecture specification and analysis are discussed. This paradigm is aimed at general system design. Its feasibility was demonstrated with a C4type network centric system as an example. The simulation results was used to check the overall integrity and internal consistency of the architecture models, refine the architecture design, and, finally, verify the behavior and functionality of the system being modeled. ©2008 IEEE.

This paper presents for the first time experimental results on the peristaltic PDMS pump with perfect dynamic valves for both gas and liquid. Micropump consists of the three peristaltic-type actuators and the micro channel connecting with chambers and the inlet/outlet port. Micropump is fabricated by SU8 mold process and the two-step curing process for the irreversible bonding of PDMS layers. The diameter and the thickness of the actuator diaphragm are 1 mm and 98 μm, respectively. The total size of micro pump is about 5 mm × 5.5 mm. The dynamic gas and liquid valve actions of the single actuator are observed to verify effect of the fluidic mass and viscosity of the working fluid. Perfect peristaltic motions and robust pumping actions of the micro pump are confirmed by the flowrate test of micropump with the air and the ink. ©2006 IEEE.

Short-term memory is essential for cognitive processing, yet our understanding of its neural mechanisms remains unclear. A key focus in neuroscience has been the study of sequential activity patterns, where neurons fire one after another within large networks, to explain how information is maintained. While recurrent connections were shown to drive sequential dynamics, a mechanistic understanding of this process still remains unknown. In this work, we first introduce two unique mechanisms that can subserve short-term memory: slow-point manifolds generating direct sequences or limit cycles providing temporally localized approximations. Then, through analytical models, we identify fundamental properties that govern the selection of these mechanisms, i.e., we derive theoretical scaling laws for critical learning rates as a function of the delay period length, beyond which no learning is possible. We empirically verify these observations by training and evaluating more than 35,000 recurrent neural networks (RNNs) that we will publicly release upon publication. Overall, our work provides new insights into short-term memory mechanisms and proposes experimentally testable predictions for systems neuroscience. © 2025, CC BY.

Fluoroscopy in a low-dose tube output is used to reduce the damage associated with radiation exposure. However, lowering the radiation dose inevitably increases random noise in x-ray images, resulting in poor diagnostic image quality, which requires noise reduction for accurate diagnosis. Also, in the case of non-static objects, the image is blurred due to motion. The most-used denoiser with a recursive filter (RF) preserves details well when applied to temporal data, but it is vulnerable to motion blur. Existing convolutional neural network (CNN)-based algorithms with single-frame input cannot use the temporary context, and others with multi-frame input are good for motion detection but poor for detail preservation. Therefore, we propose a motion-level-aware denoising framework to combine the results of RF- and CNN-based algorithms depending on the pixel-wise magnitude of motion to complement each other. The data we use are fluoroscopy images taken in continuous time, and we aim at many-to-one so that one frame is denoised by considering sequential frames. Also, since both RF- and CNN-based algorithms used in our architecture are many-to-one methods, they can consider spatiotemporal information. In the multi-frame input, the difference in intensity of each pixel between frames is calculated to obtain a moving map. Depending on the factor value from the moving map, the final image is obtained by reflecting the outputs of the RF- and CNN-based algorithms. If the factor value is high, the pixel intensity of the final image is like the CNN-based output, which is good for motion detection, and vice versa, it more reflects the intensity of RF output, which is excellent in perceptual quality. Therefore, it prevents motion blur and does not over-smooth microdetails, such as bones and muscles. The results show that combining the two outputs together records higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and has better perceptual quality for diagnosis than using only one method. F

Within the last decade, e-commerce has increased at an extraordinary level. The widespread use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (VAVs) in the logistics sector can reduce traffic density, improve delivery time, and can provide contactless delivery. This work proposes a new hybrid VAV, that combines the benefits of vertical take-off and land vehicle and a fixed-wing aircraft. It can carry multiple packages, which can decent automatically towards the recipients. This approach eliminates time-consuming landing maneuvers of the VA V for delivery. This work focuses on the design of the vehicle, and the challenges of the transitions from VTOL to aircraft modes and vice versa with a Model Predictive Controller. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper decribes design, fabrication, and chracteristics of all PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) pneumatic balloon actuators for the bidirectional motion of the microfinger. The actuation mechanism of the balloon actuator is based on pressure-dependent swelling and saturation phenomena of two flexible diaphragms with different thicknesses. Two types of microfingers with balloon actuators are fabricated by the simple silicon molding process and pneumatically tested. From the pneumatic test result, it is confirmed that the out-of-plane motion of the microfinger depends on the thickness of the bottom diaphragm of pneumatic balloon actuators. When the applied pressure is 50 kPa, the generated force and the bending angle of Type A finger are 0.17 mN and 59°, respectively. © 2005 IEEE.
