Objectives: To prospectively investigate associations of frailty and other predictor variables with functional recovery and health outcomes in middle-aged and older patients with trauma. Design: Single-center prospective cohort study. Setting: Emergency department of Wan Fang Hospital in Taiwan. Participants: Trauma patients aged 45 and older. Measurements: Frailty was assessed with the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS). Injury mechanisms, pre-existing diseases, and fracture locations were recorded at baseline. The primary outcome was functional recovery assessed using the Barthel Index (BI). Secondary outcomes were new care needs, unscheduled return visits, and falls 3 months postinjury. Results: A total of 588 participants were included in the final analysis. For every one-point increase in the CFS, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio (OR, 95% confidence interval [CI]) of failure to retain the preinjury BI was 1.34 (1.16–1.55);associations were consistent across levels of age and injury severities. Significant joint associations of frailty and age with poor functional recovery were observed. CFS was also associated with new care needs (OR for every one-point increase, 1.36, 95% CI, 1.17–1.58), unscheduled return visits (OR 1.26, 95% CI, 1.04–1.51), and falls (OR 1.23, 95% CI, 1.01–1.51). Other variables associated with failure to retain preinjury BI included road traffic accident and presence of hip fracture. Conclusion: Frailty was significantly associated with poor functional and health outcomes regardless of injury severity in middle-aged and older patients with trauma. Injury mechanisms and fracture locations were also significant predictors of functional recovery postinjury. © 2023 American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry

Recent advances in information and communication technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) are driving the development of Industry 4.0. Its objective is to enable real-time information exchange between people, machines, products and resources, providing new opportunities for improved safety, quality, productivity and cost factors which can be applied in all stages of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). The application of lean principles and practices where Industry 4.0 is deployed can leverage real-time processing visibility into even greater productivity improvements if implemented correctly. To do this, companies need to go beyond the implementation of the familiar lean tools and practices such as 5S, visual management and management directed kaizen activities etc. to consider the thinking behind the tools, especially the role of the team members. An over-reliance on technology risks undervaluing the importance of human innovative capacity which can significantly impact the ability to conduct systematic problem solving, adversely effecting daily operational performance and significantly reducing continuous improvement (CI) capacity. This conceptual paper introduces the major elements and thinking of the Toyota Production system (TPS), also referred to as ‘True Lean’, which are often hidden or underdeveloped within the popular understanding of lean. This paper illustrates how TPS-thinking can be operationalized to support and sustain a CI environment while leveraging the improved visibility possible with Industry 4.0 to integrate all stages of PLM. © 2019, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Terahertz ultra-massive MIMO-based aeronautical communications in space-air-ground integrated networks

The emerging space-air-ground integrated network has attracted intensive research and necessitates reliable and efficient aeronautical communications. This paper investigates terahertz Ultra-Massive (UM)-MIMO-based aeronautical communications and proposes an effective channel estimation and tracking scheme, which can solve the performance degradation problem caused by the unique triple delay-beam-Doppler squint effects of aeronautical terahertz UM-MIMO channels. Specifically, based on the rough angle estimates acquired from navigation information, an initial aeronautical link is established, where the delay-beam squint at transceiver can be significantly mitigated by employing a Grouping True-Time Delay Unit (GTTDU) module (e.g., the designed Rotman lens-based GTTDU module). According to the proposed prior-aided iterative angle estimation algorithm, azimuth/elevation angles can be estimated, and these angles are adopted to achieve precise beam-alignment and refine GTTDU module for further eliminating delay-beam squint. Doppler shifts can be subsequently estimated using the proposed prior-aided iterative Doppler shift estimation algorithm. On this basis, path delays and channel gains can be estimated accurately, where the Doppler squint can be effectively attenuated via compensation process. For data transmission, a data-aided decision-directed based channel tracking algorithm is developed to track the beam-aligned effective channels. When the data-aided channel tracking is invalid, angles will be re-estimated at the pilot-aided channel tracking stage with an equivalent sparse digital array, where angle ambiguity can be resolved based on the previously estimated angles. Tidal power generation (TPG) provides a predictable and stable energy supply, making it a valuable complement to variable renewable sources such as solar and wind. However, its commercial viability remains constrained by high capital costs, complex installation requirements, and limited specialised infrastructure. This study assesses the economic feasibility of TPG in the Seto Inland Sea in Japan using the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) as a benchmark for competitiveness. The findings indicated that with a 10 % discount rate, the LCOE ave is approximately 85,990 ¥/MWh, whereas a 5 % discount rate reduces it to 31,088 ¥/MWh. The estimated annual energy production (AEP) was 374,640 MWh, sufficient to supply 89,735 households, with an equivalent CO₂ reduction of approximately 166,000 tons per year. Achieving cost competitiveness for TPGs requires large-scale deployment and supportive government incentives. Expanding infrastructure and leveraging economies of volume are crucial for reducing costs and enabling broader adoption. Despite existing challenges, TPG holds significant potential for enhancing Japan's energy security and contributing to its decarbonisation goals. This potential depends on effective grid integration, strong policy support, and sustained strategic investment.

Abstract Spherical-shaped tungsten trioxide (SS-TTO) nanoparticles, notable for their high photocatalytic activity and noble metal-free composition, were developed using an innovative and eco-friendly biosynthesis method. This approach leverages orange juice as a cost-effective and abundant resource, diverging from traditional methods that often rely on costly chemicals. The newly synthesized SS-TTO nanoparticles underwent thorough examination through established spectroscopic and microscopic methods, demonstrating significantly improved photocatalytic performance under UV light exposure. These properties suggest that SS-TTO nanoparticles are a promising and sustainable option for various photocatalytic applications. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Classification of images containing sensitive and non-sensitive information using the convolutional neural network

Currently, social media is used by almost all ages, from pre-teens to the elderly. They use social media to socialize and express their activities by uploading pictures; however, they sometimes do not realize that the images they upload contain sensitive information. They do not carefully analyze the images to be uploaded due to a lack of knowledge, irresponsible acts, or impaired vision. Therefore, we propose a method to classify images with sensitive or non-sensitive content using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). This research was performed through several steps: image public dataset collection, data pre-processing, model architecture design, model training, and model validation. A randomly selected sample of 2,000 of 5,537 images from the VizWiz-Priv dataset was used to train the classification model. The CNN architecture was compiled using two max-pooling layers and four convolution layers. Finally, the model was trained and validated using images containing sensitive and non-sensitive information. The results revealed that the model accuracy during training and validation achieved 98.75% and 83.30%, respectively.

We report the direct evidence of impacts of the Coulomb interaction in a prototypical Weyl semimetal, MoTe2, that alter its bare bands in a wide range of energy and momentum. Our quasiparticle interference patterns measured using scanning tunneling microscopy are shown to match the joint density of states of quasiparticle energy bands including momentum-dependent self-energy corrections, while electronic energy bands based on the other simpler local approximations of the Coulomb interaction fail to explain neither the correct number of quasiparticle pockets nor the shape of their dispersions observed in our spectrum. With this, we predict a transition between type-I and type-II Weyl fermions with doping and resolve its disparate quantum oscillation experiments, thus highlighting the critical roles of Coulomb interactions in layered Weyl semimetals.

Environmental approaches play an active role in the production platform as well as in the supply chain. Studies that deal with supplier selection problems in the supply chain with a green focus have recently intensified. In this research, the supplier selection problem of companies providing "last mile" service, which is seen as the last step of transportation, is handled with a green focus. The supplier selection problem of these companies is differentiated according to strategic and non-strategic product groups. In this study, a green-oriented supplier selection proposal is presented for both the strategic product group and the non-strategic product group. The supplier selection problem is accepted as a multi-criteria decision making problem (MCDM). Thus, the type-2 neutrosophic numbers (T2NNs) - based CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) – based Multi-Attributive Border Approximation Area Comparison (-MABAC) hybrid model is applied to evaluate the green-oriented supplier. The motivation of the study is to determine the best alternative supplier type for strategic and non-strategic products groups. In this context, two cases are created, ten criteria are selected, and three supplier types are determined. Supplier types are as follows: (i) Classical suppliers, (ii) Classical to green centric suppliers, and (iii) Start-Ups & green centric suppliers. In addition, the findings are strengthened by creating twenty-two sensitivity analysis scenarios. As a result of the research, solution proposals for both product groups of the last mile service company are developed. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The electricity load growth should be planned appropriately to meet energy demand in a certain area. Electricity consumption growth is generally proportional with the economic and population growth. Using historical data on Gross Domestic Regional Product (GDRP) and population growth, the electricity load growth in the near future can be statistically predicted. The relationship between economic and population growth trend and total customers as well as the demands of contract electricity energy growth trend could be connected by the linear regression method to predict electricity energy consumptions. Through a Simple Econometric Simulation system (SIMPLE-E) program run in Microsoft Excel application, linear regression trend can be calculated. The purpose of study is to predict the growth of electricity consumption in Tangerang City-Indonesia, for the next ten consecutive years (2019-2028). Customer data that will be analyzed consist of five segments, which are Residential (R), Commercial (B), Industry (I), Public (P), and Social (S). Those can be combined with Gross Regional Domestic Product and human population using Multiples Linear Regression in SIMPLE-E. The correlation between dependent variables (total customers and contract of power) and independent variables (population and GRDP) will be computed in SIMPLE-E through rate value of correlation R, Adjusted R, and Durbin Watson test. The Actual trend data of total customer, contract power from 2012 to 2018, is compared to model equation from linear regression. The calculation of error use Root Mean Square Percentage Error and Mean Percentage Error, shows that the total error is less than 5%, meaning the simulation is scientifically accepted. This study shows that the average growth of electricity consumption in Tangerang city from 2019 to 2028 is 5.63%. It means that every 1% growth of economy in Tangerang will increase electricity load consumption for 0.94%. © 2019 IEEE.
