Industrial development promotes the production of various electronics for contributing to our life. On the other hand, various electronics occur the compatibility trouble about the communication standard. Especially, the compatibility of physical connection standards such as USB or Ethernet is required without the converter of the connector. One way to solve the compatibility of physical connection is the universal connector that enables optimal communication according to the connection partner. The universal connector can be realized by single-wire handshake of pin assignment which automatically negotiates the voltage signal or the role of the pin. After the connection between the pin, all connected pin conducts the single-wire handshake for determining the pin assignment. The single-wire pin assignment handshake consists of the physical half-duplex communication that conducts transmission and reception on one connection line. The physical half-duplex communication requires the single-wire handshake of the communication speed because the multi-pin cannot use for the communication. In addition, the communication speed cannot determine in advance because the connection partner is assumed various for the compatibility. In this paper, we propose the single-wire handshake which automatically adjusts the communication speeds for the universal connector. Moreover, the feasibility of our method is evaluated by the analysis result of the voltage signal between electronics.

An end-to-end solution for handwritten numeral string recognition is proposed, in which the numeral string is considered as composed of objects automatically detected and recognized by a YoLo-based model. The main contribution of this paper is to avoid heuristic-based methods for string preprocessing and segmentation, the need for task-oriented classifiers, and also the use of specific constraints related to the string length. A robust experimental protocol based on several numeral string datasets, including one composed of historical documents, has shown that the proposed method is a feasible end-to-end solution for numeral string recognition. Besides, it reduces the complexity of the string recognition task considerably since it drops out classical steps, in special preprocessing, segmentation, and a set of classifiers devoted to strings with a specific length.

BACKGROUND Disease-related single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)based genetic risk score(GRS)has been proven to provide independent inherited risk other than family history in multiple cancer *** To evaluate the potential of GRS in the prediction of pancreatic cancer *** In this case-control study(254 cases and 1200 controls),we aimed to evaluate the association between GRS and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)risk in the Chinese *** GRS was calculated based on the genotype information of 18 PDAC-related SNPs for each study subject(personal genotyping information of the SNPs)and was weighted by external odd ratios(ORs).RESULTS GRS was significantly different in cases and controls(1.96±3.84 in PDACs vs 1.09±0.94 in controls,P<0.0001).Logistic regression revealed GRS to be associated with PDAC risk[OR=1.23,95%confidence interval(CI):1.13-1.34,P<0.0001].GRS remained significantly associated with PDAC(OR=1.36,95%CI:1.06-1.74,P=0.015)after adjusting for age and *** analysis revealed an association of increased risk for PDAC with higher *** with low GRS(<1.0),subjects with high GRS(2.0)were 99%more likely to have PDAC(OR:1.99,95%CI:1.30-3.04,P=0.002).Participants with intermediate GRS(1.0-1.9)were 39%more likely to have PDAC(OR:1.39,95%CI:1.03-1.84,P=0.031).A positive trend was observed(P trend=0.0006).CONCLUSION GRS based on PDAC-associated SNPs could provide independent information on PDAC risk and may be used to predict a high risk PDAC population.

The software quality can be achieved by the process improvement; software engineers aim to analyze and monitor the whole process of the development. This paper presents `AppDOSI', a web application that allows software engineers to manage and keep track of their work performance. The design of the application was in line with the principle of the Personal Software Process (PSP). The application has been used extensively in the Software Developing Camp and gained a positive feedback from software engineering undergraduates as well as their course instructors.

BackgroundHuman exposure to cadmium has various effects on health, especially the reproductive organs in males. Although it is widely known that prenatal maternal cadmium exposure can affect birth outcomes, the effect of paternal exposure to cadmium remains *** purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of paternal cadmium exposure on fetal growth by considering not only maternal cadmium exposure but also exposure to other heavy *** Mothers and Children’s Environmental Health (MOCEH) study is a prospective birth cohort study in Korea. Overall, 1313 families (Father-Mother-Child) who did not have child abnormalities and who completed paternal whole blood cadmium assessments were included. Families were divided into two subgroups based on the blood sampling period (early and late pregnancy). Subjects were selected one family triple with high level of paternal cadmium and 2 triples with low levels of paternal cadmium, using the method of propensity score matching. And linear regression analyses were *** group with high paternal cadmium exposure (80% or more: 1.93 ug/L) had less birth weight than the group with low cadmium concentrations(β(se)=-0.21(0.10), p-value=0.0283). After stratified by infantile sex, prenatal paternal cadmium exposure significantly reduced the birth weight of girls only in both subgroup of different sampling time (Early pregnancy: β(se) = −0.52 (0.22), p-value = 0.0170, Late pregnancy: β(se) = −0.43 (0.18), p-value = 0.0160). Finally, after performing propensity score matching in the early pregnancy measurement group, it was found that the prenatal exposure of cadmium in fathers significantly reduced birth weight in girls(β(se)=-0.72(0.25), p-value=0.0047).DiscussionThis study assessed the effect of paternal cadmium exposure on birth outcomes in family units consisting of a father, mother, and child. Recently, smart city is a popular discussion. In Indonesia, some cities have been implemented to follow Government Information Communication and Technology (ICT) development program. One of smart city domain is society and it has transportation as the component. One of the approaches to encounter the urban complexities are developed public transportation. As case study, Purwokerto and Purbalingga has been implemented Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as new public transportation. The concept is similar with others BRT. Operational of BRT shall be supported by society to guarantee the sustainability. As information, both cities are developing cities that will implement smart city design and society become critical element to develop city to be planned smart city. This study measures the readiness of both cities initiative to implement smart city concept, specifically at transportation component through BRT Purwokerto-Purbalingga operation. The used methods are quantitative and qualitative analysis. Quantitative analysis is using statistical method to find correlation between socioeconomic or demographics and BRT ridership perceptions. The result is there is significantly difference BRT perception as reliable transportation for residences and routines of BRT use. Moreover, there is statistically difference between perception of BRT as alternative mass transportation with ridership residence and gender. As smart city initiative measurement using qualitative methods, supported smart city in BRT operation gain readiness of ICT, governance and human or society. By this finding, BRT operation shall improve governance and ICT enablers to come up with smart city initiative.

Understanding epithelial cell aging in bowel tissue can provide critical insights into gastrointestinal (GI) health, potentially leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies for various GI conditions. Despite the significance of cellular aging in the GI tract, previous studies have not quantified epithelial cell maturity development along the base-to-surface axis of colon crypts due to the labor-intensive nature of manual quantification and the lack of a clear definition of cellular age. Moreover, the process faces tremendous challenges when tissue is cut in 2D and examines results solely from one or a few biopsy cuts without reconstructing the full 3D space, as the original cell structure is 3D, leading to variability based on the cut angle. This research addresses these challenges by systematically analyzing the relationship between epithelial cell morphology and their position from the base to the surface in colon crypt tissue. Our approach involves using multiplex immunofluorescence (MxIF) imaging for cell nuclei segmentation, identifying the potential full longitudinal cut, and manually annotating the surface and base of the colon crypts. By analyzing the epithelial cells, we create density maps to investigate the relationship between nucleus size and the surface-to-base distance ratio, defining this ratio as cell age. We also examine the nucleus-to-cytoplasm (N/C) ratio in relation to cell age. For the statistical analysis, we use a robust linear regression model to remove outliers and a random effects model for the final regression. Our results show a decreasing trend in both the N/C ratio and nucleus size as epithelial cells move from the base to the surface. These findings provide a quantitative pipeline for single-cell profiling in a spatial manner, facilitating broader analysis of epithelial cell aging and its implications for GI health. © 2025 SPIE.

Traditional Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRPs), carry high in-plane strength and electrical conductivity but exhibit intrinsic weaknesses in strength, toughness and conductivity in the through-thickness direction (i.e. z-direction). This paper presents a novel approach to align and thread Carbon Nanofibers (CNFs) through the porous medium (Carbon fiber fabric) using an interesting radial-flow alignment method and manufacture a novel CNFs z-threaded CFRP prepreg. This new radial-flow alignment approach is unique and has been found highly effective to z-thread the array of carbon fibers (diameter ~ 7 microns) with numerous long CNFs (length ~ 50-200 microns) under a Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM) analysis. Experimental tests performed on a cured laminate sample prepared by this novel technique with 1 wt% aligned CNF concentration showed a significant improvement on the z-directional electrical conductivity for direct current (DC). The 1 wt% CNFs z-threaded CFRP was found about 100 times as conductive as the control CFRP;whereas the unaligned 1 wt% CNFs modified CFRP was only about 16 times as conductive as the control sample. © 2017 by Bikash Ranabhat and Kuang-Ting Hsiao.
