Traditional carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates without z-directional fiber-reinforcement are vulnerable to matrix-sensitive damages including the interlaminar shear failure. It was hypothesized that long carbon nanofibers (CNFs) zig-zag thread through multiple layers of carbon fibers along the z-direction could form an interlocked multiscale fiber-reinforcement network, therefore, enhance the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of the CNF z-threaded CFRP laminate. To find the answer, the "Double-Notch Shear Test" (ASTM D3846) was performed on the CNFs z-threaded unidirectional CFRP laminates. The CNFs z-threaded CFRP prepreg was manufactured by flow-transferring a resin film, containing 1 wt% electrical-field-aligned CNFs, into a dry unidirectional carbon fabric. The prepregs were stacked and cured into a laminate using an Out Of Autoclave-Vacuum Bag Only (OOA-VBO) process. Benchmarked with the ILSS of the control CFRP laminates, the CNF z-threads added a statistically substantial improvement to the CFRPs with an increased mean by +35.15 % and a reduced uncertainty (i.e., coefficient of variation) by -47.56 %. Oppositely, unaligned CNFs added to CFRPs yielded a negligible change in the mean and a substantially worse uncertainty. A microscopic morphology study was performed on the CNFs z-threaded CFRPs to understand the roles of the CNF z-threads in the interlaminar shear fracture mechanism. © 2018. Aloe vera and beeswax based coating to maintain shelf life of salak cv. Madu

The coatings on fruits after harvested was applied to maintain the appearance and quality up to the consumer's hands. This study aimed to maintain color and reduce the level of decay of salak madu during storage. Salak madu was obtained from Madding Fresh, trader and supplier salak from Sleman, Yogyakarta. The salak was coated with Aloe vera gel (20% and 50%) and beeswax (3, 6, and 10%). All samples were stored at 25–28 °C. The parameters used to measure the effect of treatment are skin color, percentage of decay, and weight loss. Observations were carried out for 12 days. The results of this study were found that dyeing on a coating made from Aloe vera 50% was able to slow down weight loss and percentage of decay until the 6 days, while Aloe vera 30% was better at maintaining color changes during storage. Beeswax 3% coating can slow down discoloration and percentage of decay until 6 days of storage. Long-term storage (12 days) with beeswax 10% was better in maintaining changes in the quality of salak madu, while for short-term storage (6 days), beeswax 3% gives better results.

According to the theory of coordinated reset (CR) stimulation, multifocal bursts of stimuli delivered in a random order with a specific interval may reduce the resonance power of the oscillatory generator in the epicenter. We develop a noninvasive coordinated multifocal burst stimulation (COMBS) with three repetitive transcranial stimulation machines based on CR theory to modulate the target frequency in the primary motor cortex and to assess its effect on motor cortical excitability in separate experiments. Electroencephalography and electromyography were recorded in 16 healthy participants during a finger-tapping task, both before and after the intervention. The resting oscillatory power at the targeted frequency was not changed by COMBS. α-Band power was increased in both preparation and movement stages and the low β-band power was increased in the movement stage of the finger tapping task. The extent of low β-band event-related desynchronization was reduced by COMBS. There were no changes in reaction time, but there was a trend for a reduced error rate after COMBS. In another 14 healthy participants, there were no significant changes in cortical excitability before and after COMBS measured by rest motor threshold, short interval intracortical inhibition, short interval intracortical facilitation, and cortical silent period. The result indicates that COMBS may modify the cortical oscillatory power and its perturbation within specific movement stage. This is the first study, to our knowledge, to apply coordinated reset (CR) neuromodulation to the motor cortex with three repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) stimulators to assess its effect on cortical oscillation. The results revealed enhancement of α-band power specifically in preparation and movement stages and low β-band power in the movement stage of a motor task. It postulated that CR stimulation may modify the motor cortical oscillation in the specific movement stages.

Indonesia had been suffered by earthquake and tsunami for many centuries. Since many lives have taken by tsunami strikes, alert and response system are very important as important part of Disaster Risk Reduction, especially in area with high population density. This research conducted in Kangkung fishing village in Bandar Lampung coastal area which is an earthquake and tsunami prone area. The aim of the research is to study alert and response of Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction. The research conducted by qualitative method and purposive-descriptive approach. There were 53 respondents which participated in the survey and interview. It is reported that 'Smart Resilient City' model suitable for community needs of alert and response of earthquake and tsunami disaster. This research meets conclusion that 'Smart Resilient City' model may become a great solution in Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction to cope with the hazard of earthquake and tsunami comprehensively and sustainably.

Objectives:Many cancer biomarkers such as the circulating tumor cells/microemboli (CTCs/CTM) have been reported significant associations with clinical outcomes. However, different biomarkers have different sensitivities and specificities for cancer types and cohort patients, and synergistic effects between certain biomarkers have also been observed, leading to the inaccurate, fluctuating, and even controversial results when multiple biomarkers are analyzed together. In this paper, a novel combinational index, P-score, was developed for monitoring and predicting the disease condition of lung cancer patients during follow-up visits. Materials and methods:There were totally 13 return patients with 54 blood samples involved in this study to examine the number of CTC and CTM. Information from one group of 7 patients including 27 blood samples with published clinical data was employed to develop while those from another group of 4 patients containing 14 blood samples with unpublished clinical data were used to validate the P score in prediction. Enumerations were based on immunofluorescent staining images. Distributions of CTC/CTM and their frequencies in stratified patients were carefully examined and analyzed the ROC curve and AUC value to develop the P score and P score-based prediction model. Results and conclusion:We found that the predictive power of P-score was not only comparable to the traditional cancer marker, in comparison with individual CTC/CTM, more false positives could be corrected by using P-score, thereby to improve the accuracy of analysis. From our preliminary validation tests, the prognosis and disease progression monitored longitudinally by P-score were further confirmed by clinical outcome data from physicians and its sensitivity was even better than those from individual biomarkers. We believe that this novel combinational indicator could be a promising tool to interpret clinical outcomes more accurately from multiple factors, particularly useful

This research has applied an integrated design and development of planning information system, which is been designed using Enterprise Architecture Planning. Frequent discrepancy between planning and realization of the budget that has been made, resulted in ineffective planning, is one of the reason for doing this research. The design using EAP aims to keep development aligned and in line with the strategic direction of the organization. In the practice, EAP is carried out in several stages of the planning initiation, identification and definition of business functions, proceeded with architectural design and EA implementation plan that has been built. In addition to the design of the Enterprise Architecture, this research carried out the implementation, and was tested by several methods of black box and white box. Black box testing method is used to test the fundamental aspects of the software, tested by two kinds of testing, first is using User Acceptance Testing and the second is using software functionality testing. White box testing method is used to test the effectiveness of the code in the software, tested using unit testing. Tests conducted using white box and black box on the integrated planning information system, is declared successful. Success in the software testing can not be ascertained if the software built has not shown any distinction from prior circumstance to the development of this integrated planning information system. For ensuring the success of this system implementation, the authors test consistency between the planning of data and the realization of prior-use of the information system, until after-use information system. This consistency test is done by reducing the time data of the planning and realization time. From the tabulated data, the planning information system that has been built reduces the difference between the planning time and the realization time, in which indicates that the planning information system can motivate the plann

This paper shows the possibility of the output improvement to a large wind turbine, so the operator can earn more and thus reduce the overall cost of energy. For a modern wind turbine certificated by IEC or DNV-GL guidelines, a 20 years design lifetime is a base line. However, the efficiency of the turbine will degrade after 8 or 9 years' operating. Some components, especially the turning blade, the efficiency may vary due to the surface condition change. Meanwhile, the controller technology may also have been improved after years. So, the turbine can regain its original output or even have a better output performance through some adjustments. In this paper, a 2 MW wind turbine with different design and operating parameters like blade efficiency, wind direction alignment, high/low wind control strategy has been evaluated, then with the software DNV-GL BLADED simulation, to calculate the output differences and availability of the turbine. The result shown that a 3~5% yield annually can be obtained for each improved parameter in a 9 m/s mean wind speed situation. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

The impact of forest degradation due to open-pit mining activities causes sustainable ecological damage. Mining activities that are not organized due to the mineral exploration process have resulted in many forest areas experiencing degradation. This degradation certainly reduces the level of carbon sequestration in the area, impacting the sustainability of environmental functions around the mining area. The high carbon stock (HCS) approach is a way to help companies implement their 'no deforestation' commitments. The high carbon stock approach will identify forests that must be protected and land that can be developed. Forests with high carbon stocks are maintained because they function as carbon stores, habitats for biodiversity, and provide the necessities of life for local communities. Therefore, this study aims to obtain data on the potential for carbon stocks and create a spatial model for distributing carbon content in the concession area of PT. Vale Indonesia can later be determined as high conservation value (HCV) areas using the high carbon stock approach. Measurement of carbon content in the study used an allometric equation that has been developed, then the distribution of carbon was made using the spatial vegetation index model obtained from Sentinel 2 imagery. The results showed an area of 30,526.49 (42.97%), which had high carbon stock with an average carbon stock of 106.09 ton/ha, which needed to be maintained as an area of high conservation value in the mining area of PT. Vale Indonesia.

Parameter Optimization and Learning in a Spiking Neural Network for UAV Obstacle Avoidance targeting Neuromorphic Processors

he Lobula Giant Movement Detector (LGMD) is an identified neuron of the locust that detects looming objects and triggers the insect’s escape responses. Understanding the neural principles and network structure that lead to these fast and robust responses can facilitate the design of efficient obstacle avoidance strategies for robotic applications. Here we present a neuromorphic spiking neural network model of the LGMD driven by the output of a neuromorphic Dynamic Vision Sensor (DVS), which incorporates spiking frequency adaptation and synaptic plasticity mechanisms, and which can be mapped onto existing neuromorphic processor chips. However, as the model has a wide range of parameters, and the mixed signal analogue-digital circuits used to implement the model are affected by variability and noise, it is necessary to optimise the parameters to produce robust and reliable responses. Here we propose to use Differential Evolution (DE) and Bayesian Optimisation (BO) techniques to optimise the parameter space and investigate the use of Self-Adaptive Differential Evolution (SADE) to ameliorate the difficulties of finding appropriate input parameters for the DE technique. We quantify the performance of the methods proposed with a comprehensive comparison of different optimisers applied to the model, and demonstrate the validity of the approach proposed using recordings made from a DVS sensor mounted on a UAV. ZrSiS-type materials represent a large material family with unusual coexistence of topological nonsymmorphic Dirac fermions and nodal-line fermions. As a special group of ZrSiS family, LnSbTe (Ln=lanthaniderare−earth) compounds provide a unique opportunity to explore new quantum phases due to the intrinsic magnetism induced by Ln. Here we report the single-crystal growth and characterization of NdSbTe, a previously unexplored LnSbTe compound. NdSbTe has an antiferromagnetic ground state with field-driven metamagnetic transitions similar to other known LnSbTe, but exhibits distinct enhanced electronic correlations characterized by large a Sommerfeld coefficient of 115mJ/molK2, which is the highest among the known LnSbTe compounds. Furthermore, our transport studies have revealed the coupling with magnetism and signatures of Kondo localization. All these findings establish NdSbTe as a platform for observing phenomena arising from the interplay between magnetism, topology, and electron correlations.
