Injection molding is one of the most common methods for the mass production of plastic products with complex geometries. However, while injection molding is a highly convenient and cost-effective method, some problems still remain, including warpage, quality variations, surface defects, insufficient physical properties of the finished parts, and so on. During the ejection stage, one of the most serious problems is that of sticking at the interface between the molded part and the cavity surface. The adhesion force inhibits the release of the molded part from the mold surface, and can lead to serious defects, such as distortion and cracking. The adhesion phenomenon is particularly common in the injection molding of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Numerous factors affect the intensity of the mold adhesion force, including the injection molding conditions, the surface morphology, the surface modification conditions, and the rheological properties of the molten polymer. To clarify the effect of the molding conditions on the mold adhesion level, the present study uses a tensile mode mold adhesion tester to measure the adhesion force for various values of the mold temperature, melt temperature and injection speed. In addition, the surface free energy (SFE) of the molded parts is measured in order to better understand the correlation between the wettability and the processing conditions. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers. Product Distribution and Characteristic from Pyrolysis of Indonesia Palm Oil Residues

During the production, palm oil industry generated around 4 ton of dry biomass waste such empty fruit bunch (EFB), palm kernel shell (PKS), and palm oil fiber (PF) for each 1 ton of palm oil extracted. As main industry in Indonesia, palm oil industry offered not only the oil product but also biomass waste which was potential for clean energy sources. The utilization of those biomass residue is still limited due to lack of information related to conversion method as well as characteristic of various product. This research focuses on the product distribution and characterization of biomass pyrolysis especially PKS and PF. Pyrolysis experiments were conducted using both thermogravity (TG) method and stainless steel reactor at temperature range of 450–550°C. Based on the TG method that biomass was heated up until 1000°C in nitrogen atmosphere, PKS exhibited slower decomposition process rather than PF because of high value of hardness and fixed carbon. Two strong peaks were seen clearly which the first peak correspond to hemicellulose and lignin decomposition that proceed in the temperature range of 200 – 300°C. While, the second peak represented to cellulose and lignin decomposition that occurred in the temperature range of 300 – 500°C. Pyrolysis at higher temperature initiated smaller amount of solid product due to volatilization and higher ash content. The ash composed of several chemical such as Si, Al, Ca, Mn etc which would still remain in the solid product when temperature was increased. However, the fixed carbon and heating value enhanced significantly as increasing temperature. Clearly, based on the SEM images, the biochar hold better pore structure compared to raw material. In the pyrolysis process, the volatile matter moved to gas phases and create abundant vacant as pore structure in the solid product. Interplay of Purcell Effect, Stimulated Emission, and Leaky Modes in the Photoluminescence Spectra of Microsphere Cavities

A theoretical model for describing the emission spectra of microsphere cavities is presented and its predictions of detailed line shapes of emission spectra associated with whispering gallery modes (WGMs) of various orders in ZnO microspheres (MSs) are verified experimentally by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The interplay of the Purcell effect, quality factor, and leaky modes in spontaneous and stimulated emission spectra related to WGMs of all orders is revealed. The key success of the theory is based on the expansion of the full Green’s function of the MS in terms of all possible resonance modes in complex frequency space, which allows incorporation of contributions from leaky modes, stimulated emission processes, and the Purcell effect. We show that the spontaneous emission spectrum calculated according to Mie theory (without the Purcell effect) is dominated by the contribution of leaky modes, while the spontaneous and stimulated emission enhanced by the Purcell effect is responsible for the main WGM resonance peaks observed experimentally. It is found that the stimulated emission peaks are doubly enhanced by their respective mode quality factor Q: one factor from the Purcell effect and the other factor from the photon number derived from the rate equation. After combining all these effects, the theory can provide a quantitative description of fine features of both TE and TM modes (including higher-order modes) observed in the PL spectra of ZnO MSs. Surprisingly, it is found that for ZnO MS with a diameter larger than 5 μm, the PL emission spectrum is dominated by higher-order modes. The quantitative understanding of the interplay of these emission mechanisms should prove useful for optimizing the performance of light-emitting devices based on microresonators.

Developing countries are currently experiencing rapid urbanization due to economic growth which resulted in large scale of residential constructions including condominium. Despite its contribution to the society welfare, condominium projects also create significant negative impacts on the environment through the consumption of non- renewable resources. Various methods, technologies as well as regulations have been employed to overcome the problem. However, the efforts to reduce the impacts, improve resource efficiency and promote sustainable construction were challenged by the fact that adopting sustainability will increase costs during investment phase, which is the main concern of most investors. In that respect, this paper was aimed to develop a dynamic hypothesis of sustainable construction which might be applicable for condominium project in developing countries, using a case study in Surabaya, Indonesia. system dynamic modelling was utilized to analyze the interrelationship among the controlling variables that influence system behavior of sustainable construction and project cost over a certain period. Variables were selected from previous literatures relevant to sustainable construction aspects. A questionnaire was then designed to collect experts’ perception on the influencing factors to sustainability in condominium projects. It included material and energy consumption, construction waste, lean construction method, use of green materials, indicators of sustainable construction and life cycle cost. The model obtained in this study was expected to be considered as a tool for improving sustainable construction while maintaining business objective in condominium project and formulating better policy to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability target in the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing unprecedented economic disruption and downturn in communities and organizations globally, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certified products have good quality and are competitive in trade. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of SNI-certified SMEs. The research method used is descriptive quantitative involving 34 SMEs that apply SNI. The data collection method is an online interview using a structured questionnaire to SMEs implementing SNI with research variables covering four independent variables, namely financial, operational, supply chain, and reputation of SMEs. The analysis used is using quantitative analysis techniques using a Likert scale. The COVID-19 pandemic has harmed the performance of SMEs from the financial, operational, supply chain, and reputation aspects. The percentage of the impact caused is 70% with the information level being high. Financial and operational impacts have a high level of impact with a percentage of 72% and 73%, while the supply chain and reputation aspects have a moderate level of impact with an impact percentage of 68% and 63%, respectively. In the aspect of reputation, brand image, product quality, and competitiveness can be maintained by the implementation of SNI, so that it has the lowest percentage value. SNI certification also helps SMEs in product promotion and sales. Although the majority of SMEs stated that recertification was a priority, not a few SMEs experienced difficulties and incompetence in the SNI certification process.

In today's era, nanoparticles (NPs) have become an integral part of human life, finding extensive applications in various fields of science, pharmacy, medicine, industry, electronics, and communication. The increasing popularity of NP usage worldwide is a testament to their tremendous potential. However, the widespread deployment of NPs unavoidably leads to their release into the environmental matrices, resulting in persistence in ecosystems and bioaccumulation in organisms. Understanding the environmental behavior of NPs poses a significant challenge due to their nanoscale size. Given the current environmental releases of NPs, known negative consequences, and the limited knowledge available for risk management, comprehending the toxicity of NPs in ecosystems is both awaiting and crucial. The present review aims to unravel the potential environmental influences of nano-scaled materials, and provides in-depth inferences of the current knowledge and understanding in this field. The review comprehensively summarizes the sources, fate, transport, toxicity, health risks, and remediation solutions associated with NP pollution in aquatic and soil ecosystems. Furthermore, it addresses the knowledge gaps and outlines further investigation priorities for the sustainable control of NP pollution in these environments. By gaining a holistic understanding of these aspects, we can work toward ensuring the responsible and sustainable use of NPs in today's fast-growing world.

Continuous glucose monitoring(CGM) technology has grown rapidly to track real-time blood glucose levels and trends with improved sensor accuracy. The ease of use and wide availability of CGM will facilitate safe and effective decision making for diabetes management. Here, we developed an attention-based deep learning model, CGMformer, pretrained on a well-controlled and diverse corpus of CGM data to represent individual's intrinsic metabolic state and enable clinical applications. During pretraining, CGMformer encodes glucose dynamics including glucose level, fluctuation, hyperglycemia, and hypoglycemia into latent space with self-supervised learning. It shows generalizability in imputing glucose value across five external datasets with different populations and metabolic states(MAE = 3.7 mg/d L). We then fine-tuned CGMformer towards a diverse panel of downstream tasks in the screening of diabetes and its complications using task-specific data, which demonstrated a consistently boosted predictive accuracy over direct fine-tuning on a single task(AUROC = 0.914 for type 2 diabetes(T2D) screening and 0.741 for complication screening). By learning an intrinsic representation of an individual's glucose dynamics,CGMformer classifies non-diabetic individuals into six clusters with elevated T2D risks, and identifies a specific cluster with lean body-shape but high risk of glucose metabolism disorders, which is overlooked by traditional glucose measurements. Furthermore, CGMformer achieves high accuracy in predicting an individual's postprandial glucose response with dietary modelling(Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.763)and helps personalized dietary recommendations. Overall, CGMformer pretrains a transformer neural network architecture to learn an intrinsic representation by borrowing information from a large amount of daily glucose profiles, and demonstrates predictive capabilities fine-tuned towards a broad range of downstream applications, holding promise for the ear

We establish an open framework for developing plan optimization models for knowledge-based planning (KBP) in radiotherapy. Our framework includes reference plans for 100 patients with head-and-neck cancer and high-quality dose predictions from 19 KBP models that were developed by different research groups during the OpenKBP Grand Challenge. The dose predictions were input to four optimization models to form 76 unique KBP pipelines that generated 7600 plans. The predictions and plans were compared to the reference plans via: dose score, which is the average mean absolute voxel-by-voxel difference in dose a model achieved;the deviation in dosevolume histogram (DVH) criterion;and the frequency of clinical planning criteria satisfaction. We also performed a theoretical investigation to justify our dose mimicking models. The range in rank order correlation of the dose score between predictions and their KBP pipelines was 0.50 to 0.62, which indicates that the quality of the predictions is generally positively correlated with the quality of the plans. Over the past 2 to 3 decades,Chinese forests are estimated to act as a large carbon sink,yet the magnitude and spatial patterns of this sink differ considerably among *** 3 microwave(L-and X-band vegetation optical depth[VOD])and 3 optical(normalized difference vegetation index,leaf area index,and tree cover)remote-sensing vegetation products,this study compared the estimated live woody aboveground biomass carbon(AGC)dynamics over China between 2013 and *** results showed that tree cover has the highest spatial consistency with 3 published AGC maps(mean correlation value R=0.84),followed by L-VOD(R=0.83),which outperform the other *** AGC estimation model was proposed to combine all indices to estimate the annual AGC dynamics in China during 2013 to *** performance of the AGC estimation model was good(root mean square error=0.05 Pg C and R^(2)=0.90 with a mean relative uncertainty of 9.8% at pixel scale[0.25°]).Results of the AGC estimation model showed that carbon uptake by the forests in China was about+0.17 Pg C year^(-1) from 2013 to *** the regional level,provinces in southwest China including Guizhou(+22.35 Tg C year^(-1)),Sichuan(+14.49 Tg C year^(-1)),and Hunan(+11.42 Tg C year^(-1))provinces had the highest carbon sink rates during 2013 to *** of the carbon-sink regions have been afforested recently,implying that afforestation and ecological engineering projects have been effective means for carbon sequestration in these regions.
