A Cognitive radio is the mobile communication technologies which help to utilize the efficient need of radio spectrum origin. The performance of CRN is significantly impacted by the spectrum sensing function. The problem of bandwidth has risen as a more specific one with breakthroughs in remote communications. By forgiving unlicensed users to usage the available spectrum in primary networks is the solution to the CR Technology. An innovative method for enhancing the electromagnetic spectrum's use efficiency, cognitive radio is a encouraging technology. Spectrum sensing has high spectral resolution capabilities and aids in the detection of the spectrum holes. The various methodologies are used to enhance the spectrum sensing essence. These techniques are distinguished by a sensing threshold, which is crucial to the performance of the sensing. The most important element in selecting the best threshold to optimize spectrum sensing performance is the dynamic threshold in the proposed system's spectrum detection algorithm. The energy earned from the licensed user over a precise time of observation, then the dynamic threshold is commutated between two levels. The estimation of the noise ambiguity factor forms the basis for threshold evaluations. These criteria are used to hike the likelihood of detection and contraction the possibility of false alarms. © 2023 IEEE.

Maintaining high-quality service supply and sustainability in modern cloud computing is essential to ensuring optimal system performance and energy efficiency. A novel approach is introduced in this study to decrease a system.s overall delay and energy consumption by utilising a deep reinforcement learning(DRL)model to predict and allocate incoming workloads flexibly. The proposed methodology integrates workload prediction utilising long short-term memory(LSTM)networks with efficient load-balancing techniques led by deep Q-learning and Actor-Critic algorithms. By continuously analysing current and historical data,the model can efficiently allocate resources,prioritizing speed and energy preservation. The experimental findings demonstrate that our load balancing system,which utilises DRL,significantly reduces average response times and energy usage compared to traditional methods. This approach provides a scalable and adaptable strategy for enhancing cloud infrastructure performance. It consistently provides reliable and durable performance across a range of dynamic workloads.

Face recognition (FR) technology has numerous applications in artificial intelligence including biometrics, security,authentication, law enforcement, and surveillance. Deep learning (DL) models, notably convolutional neuralnetworks (CNNs), have shown promising results in the field of FR. However CNNs are easily fooled since theydo not encode position and orientation correlations between features. Hinton et al. envisioned Capsule Networksas a more robust design capable of retaining pose information and spatial correlations to recognize objects morelike the brain does. Lower-level capsules hold 8-dimensional vectors of attributes like position, hue, texture, andso on, which are routed to higher-level capsules via a new routing by agreement algorithm. This provides capsulenetworks with viewpoint invariance, which has previously evaded CNNs. This research presents a FR model basedon capsule networks that was tested using the LFW dataset, COMSATS face dataset, and own acquired photos usingcameras measuring 128 × 128 pixels, 40 × 40 pixels, and 30 × 30 pixels. The trained model outperforms state-ofthe-art algorithms, achieving 95.82% test accuracy and performing well on unseen faces that have been blurred orrotated. Additionally, the suggested model outperformed the recently released approaches on the COMSATS facedataset, achieving a high accuracy of 92.47%. Based on the results of this research as well as previous results, capsulenetworks perform better than deeper CNNs on unobserved altered data because of their special equivarianceproperties.

Road damage detection (RDD) through computer vision and deep learning techniques can ensure the safety of vehicles and humans on the roads. Integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in RDD and infrastructure evaluation (IE) has also emerged as a key enabler, contributing significantly to data acquisition and real-time monitoring of road damages, such as potholes, cracks, and surface anomalies, facilitating proactive maintenance and improved road conditions. These UAVs are low-powered and resource-constrained devices that work autonomously to perform pattern detection and decision making leveraging tiny machine learning (Tiny ML) algorithms. These Tiny ML algorithms are designed to run on edge devices, IoT devices, UAVs, etc. In this study, the RDD2022 data set collected using UAVs and dashboard cameras of vehicles was utilized to train pure and mixed models that exhibit class instance imbalance in certain classes which is addressed by implementing data augmentation as a regularization technique. State-of-the-art two-stage detectors: Faster R-CNN ResNet101 and one-stage detectors: SSD MobileNet V1 FPN, YOLOv5, and Efficientdet D1 are employed. The results indicate that the two-stage detector achieved an impressive mean average precision (mAP) of 88.49% overall and 96.62% for focused classes. Notably, the state-of-the-art Efficientdet D1 approach achieved a competitive mAP of 86.47% overall and 95.12% for focused classes, with significantly lower computational cost. These findings highlight the potential of advanced object detection techniques, particularly Efficientdet D1, to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of RDD systems, thereby improving passenger safety and overall performance. © 2014 IEEE.

In the realm of recommendation systems, achieving real-time performance in embedding similarity tasks is often hindered by the limitations of traditional Top-K sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SpMV) methods, which suffer from high latency due to inefficient memory access patterns. This paper identifies these critical gaps and introduces AccelES, a novel approach that significantly enhances the efficiency of Top-K SpMV. Our method employs a two-stage calculation scheme: the first stage utilizes a compact, low-bit dataset to quickly identify the most relevant entries, while the second stage performs full-precision calculations solely on this pruned subset, thereby minimizing computational overhead. Furthermore, AccelES incorporates innovative matrix representations, Ultra-CSR and Random-CSR, which optimize memory bandwidth utilization. Experimental results demonstrate that AccelES accelerates performance, surpassing state-of-the-art FPGA, GPU, and CPU solutions by factors of 3.4×, 2.5×, and 153.3×, respectively, under controlled conditions. These advancements not only enhance processing speed but also significantly improve real-time performance in recommendation systems, establishing AccelES as a pivotal contribution to the field of Top-K sparse matrix-vector multiplication. © 2025 IEEE.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the coverage hole problem is one of the challenging problems that needs an effective solution. Data routing protocols in WSNs aim to disseminate the sensors' data to the central device with the minimum possible network resource usage. However, suppose there is a coverage hole in the middle of the source and destination nodes, and the source node doesn't have information about the hole. In that case, the data may choose the longer and more repetitive path to reach the destination, increasing resource usage, mainly energy and time. The condition is even more challenging when the network employs a mobile data collector. This paper proposes a Coverage Hole Aware Data Routing (CHADR) protocol for Mobile Sink WSNs that determines the shorter hole bypassing path in advance at the source node using the hole and data collector location information. CHADR evaluates the path efficiency using directional angle and expected hops count. After determining the path, data will be transmitted to the mobile sink using an Opportunistic routing technique. We proved CHADR performance with experimental simulations. © 2024 IEEE.

Toward High-Performance Delta-Based Iterative Processing with a Group-Based Approach

Many systems have been built to employ the delta-based iterative execution model to support iterative algorithms on distributed platforms by exploiting the sparse computational dependencies between data items of these iterative algorithms in a synchronous or asynchronous approach. However, for large-scale iterative algorithms, existing synchronous solutions suffer from slow convergence speed and load imbalance, because of the strict barrier between iterations;while existing asynchronous approaches induce excessive redundant communication and computation cost as a result of being barrier-free. In view of the performance trade-off between these two approaches, this paper designs an efficient execution manager, called Aiter-R, which can be integrated into existing delta-based iterative processing systems to efficiently support the execution of delta-based iterative algorithms, by using our proposed group-based iterative execution approach. It can efficiently and correctly explore the middle ground of the two extremes. A heuristic scheduling algorithm is further proposed to allow an iterative algorithm to adaptively choose its trade-off point so as to achieve the maximum efficiency. Experimental results show that Aiter-R strikes a good balance between the synchronous and asynchronous policies and outperforms state-of-the-art solutions. It reduces the execution time by up to 54.1% and 84.6% in comparison with existing asynchronous and the synchronous models, respectively.

Industrial Cyber-Physical (ICP) systems are integration of computation and physical processes to help achieve operational excellence. As sensors and actuators compose the openly deployed ICP systems and are often susceptible to interference, it puts forward higher requirements on reliability. Reliable coverage ensures sensors acquiring information and therefore coverage reliability of sensor network is studied from various perspectives. However, most existing reliability evaluation methods ignore the belief degree of coverage which influences the reliability to an extent. To evaluate the coverage reliability from the perspective of belief degree, we firstly define Confident Information Coverage Belief Reliability (CICBR) based on the Confident Information Coverage (CIC) model and D-S evidence theory, which comprehensively considers the coverage rate, interference from the environment, and belief degree of the result. Next, to evaluate the belief degree more reasonably, an Evidence-discount-based basic probability assignment generating method is proposed based on D-S theory to describe the interference in the belief degree. Moreover, a belief evaluation algorithm is proposed to calculate the belief degree of the coverage. Finally, an evidence-Discount-based Confident Information Coverage Belief Reliability Evaluation (D-CICBRE) algorithm is proposed to evaluate CICBR. The simulation result indicates that the proposed method can obtain higher and more reasonable reliability. Therefore, the proposed D-CICBRE algorithm can be used to evaluate the reliability of ICP systems more accurately and reasonably. © 2023 IEEE.

Mental stress poses significant health risks, manifesting in various psychological and physical issues such as depression, anxiety, and cardiovascular complications. Establishing a reliable method for swiftly and accurately classifying mental stress levels is crucial due to its widespread impact. Existing classification approaches predominantly rely on either data-intensive traditional machine learning algorithms or opaque deep learning models, hindering real-world use and interpretability. This study addresses these limitations by proposing a novel approach for stress level classification using the WESAD dataset. Our method combines an attention-based ResN et with CBAM. This innovative approach synergistically integrates shallow and deep features, harnessing both low-level details and high-level semantic information to effectively classify stress levels into four distinct states: baseline, stress, amusement, and meditation, or three states excluding the meditation state. The experimental result shows 92.74% accuracy and 91.19% F1 score for the 4-class setup, and 97.58% accuracy and 97.51 % F1 score for the 3-class setup. Our approach offers a more robust and interpretable framework for mental stress classification, with potential applications in health care and stress management. © 2024 IEEE.

In IoT-enabled smart infrastructure, accurate and real-time road damage detection is crucial for enhancing road safety and optimizing maintenance processes. However, detecting road damage in complex and dynamic environments presents significant challenges, such as varying lighting conditions, diverse damage types, and the need for fast processing to enable real-time decision-making. This study introduces an advanced approach utilizing the YOLOv9s-Fusion model to overcome these challenges. Leveraging the RDD2022 dataset, which comprises 1,976 annotated images of road damage from China, we employ comprehensive data preprocessing to create optimal conditions for model training. The YOLOv9s-Fusion model integrates innovative features, including a Transformer-based auxiliary module and enhanced feature extraction layers, specifically designed to detect fine-grained damage patterns accurately. Experimental results demonstrate that the model outperforms existing approaches, achieving notable improvements in mean Average Precision (mAP) and F1-score. Ablation studies further validate the impact of our modifications, highlighting the model’s robustness in real-time detection across diverse conditions. This IoT-centric approach sets a new standard for autonomous road damage detection, significantly advancing vehicle navigation and smart infrastructure management capabilities. © 2014 IEEE.
