Non-orthogonal multiple access schemes with higher spectral efficiency and the capability of accessing more users than orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme is preferred for the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this work, a non-orthogonal transmission scheme called pattern division multiple access (PDMA) is proposed for the 5G wireless communication systems. Two pattern matrices are proposed for 150% and 200% overloaded PDMA systems. Then, a low complexity symbol-wise belief propagation iterative detection and decoding (BPIDD) algorithm for multiple user detection is proposed. Numerical results and analysis provided by utilizing extrinsic information transfer chart show that the proposed scheme outperforms the traditional OMA systems significantly, and the performance of the proposed scheme is better than that of the existing schemes up to 1 dB. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme is superior to the existing schemes and the proposed BPIDD algorithm is better than that of the BP algorithm over 0.5 dB.

This paper represents a novel regenerative braking approach for the Electric Vehicles. The proposed method solves the short-range problem which is corresponding to the charge of the battery pack. The DTC switching algorithm has been modified to recover the electrical energy from Electrical Vehicle (EV), driven by Brushless DC motor, without using the additional power converter or the other electrical energy storage devices. During regenerative braking process, different switching pattern is applied to the inverter to convert the mechanical energy to the electrical energy through the reverse diodes. This switching pattern is different from the normal operation due to the special arrangement of voltage vectors which is considered to convert the mechanical energy to electrical energy. The state of charge of the battery is used as a performance indicator of the method. Simultaneously, a model reference adaptive system has been designed to tune the system's parameters. Several simulations are carried out to validate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed methods. The results show the high capability and performance of the designed method. Polymorphic transitions in layered transition metal dichalcogenides provide an excellent platform for discovering exotic phenomena associated with metastable states, ranging from topological phase transitions1 to enhanced superconductivity2. In particular, the transition from 2H to 1T0-MoTe2, which was thought to be induced by high-energy photon irradiation3–5 among many other means6–9, has been intensely studied for its technological relevance in nanoscale transistors3. Despite the remarkable electrical performance arising from this 2H-to-1T0 transition, it remains controversial whether a crystalline 1T0 phase is produced because optical signatures of this putative transition are found to be associated with the formation of elemental Te clusters instead10,11. Here, we demonstrate the creation of an intrinsic 1T0 lattice after irradiating a mono- or few-layer 2H-MoTe2 with a single field-enhanced terahertz pulse, whose low photon energy limits possible structural damage by optical pulses. To visualize the temporal evolution of this irreversible transition, we further develop a single-shot terahertz pump-second harmonic probe technique, and we find that the transition out of the 2H phase occurs within 10 ns after photoexcitation. Our results not only resolve the long-standing debate over the light-induced polymorphic transition in MoTe2, they also highlight the unique capability of strong-field terahertz pulses in manipulating the structure of quantum materials. Artificial intelligence (AI) agent created with Deep Q-Networks (DQN) can defeat human agents in video games. Despite its high performance, DQN often exhibits odd behaviors, which could be immersion-breaking against the purpose of creating game AI. Moreover, DQN is capable of reacting to the game environment much faster than humans, making itself invincible (thus not fun to play with) in certain types of games. On the other hand, supervised learning framework trains an AI agent using historical play data of human agents as training data. Supervised learning agent exhibits a more human-like behavior than reinforcement learning agents because of imitating training data. However, its performance is often no better than human agents. The ultimate purpose of AI agents is to entertain human players. A good performance and a humanlike behavior are important factors of the AI agents, and both of them should be achieved simultaneously. This study proposes frameworks combining reinforcement learning and supervised learning and we call then separated network model and shared network model. We evaluated their performances by the game scores and behaviors by Turing test. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed frameworks develop an AI agent of better performance than human agent and natural behavior than reinforcement learning agents.

Minimax optimal estimators for additive scalar functionals of discrete distributions

In this paper, we consider estimators for an additive functional of ø, which is defined as θ(P;ø) = Σki=1 ø(pi), from n i.i.d. random samples drawn from a discrete distribution P = (p1;⋯ pk) with alphabet size k. We propose a minimax optimal estimator for the estimation problem of the additive functional. We reveal that the minimax optimal rate is characterized by the divergence speed of the fourth derivative of ø if the divergence speed is high. As a result, we show there is no consistent estimator if the divergence speed of the fourth derivative of ø is larger than p-4. Furthermore, if the divergence speed of the fourth derivative of ø is p4-αfor α ∈ (0, 1), the minimax optimal rate is obtained within a universal multiplicative constant as k2/(n ln n)2α+ k2-2α/n. In order to safely operate the Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) at sea, it is necessary to communicate with Vessel Traffic system (VTS) for information delivery and also manned ship for collision avoidance. For this reason, the communication relay system was designed to enable navigation information exchange in a dedicated communication network via the Maritime Control Station (MCS). However, communication experiment at sea was not conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the USV communication relay system. In order to validate, experimental scenario was composed of the USV voice relay system according to navigation stages, and communication experiment was conducted in Mokpo sea area. A result of experiment based on the SINPO (Signal strength, Interference, Noise, Propagation, and Overall rating) code described in Document REC. ITU-R SM. 1135, overall rating was good.

There are huge amount of tasks and data to be processed in cloud rendering environment. How to effectively schedule them is the key to ensure the overall performance of the cloud rendering environment. In this paper, an improved task scheduling algorithm based on genetic algorithm (PMGA) and probabilistic model is proposed, which aims to minimize the total time and cost of task scheduling . First, the fitness function relating to the total time and task cost is improved under the consideration of the user's satisfaction to rendering services. Then, a probability model is constructed for the scheduling algorithm, which is used to achieve the non-linear adaptive adjustment of the crossover rate function and the mutation rate function. As a result, the evolutionary ability of poor individuals in the population can be enhanced, avoiding the stagnation in the early stages. Finally, experiments are performed to demonstrate that PMGA has a better ability of optimization than that of traditional adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA). Our approach contributes to reduce the total time and the scheduling cost of the cloud rendering tasks.

A wireless mobile ad hoc network has high node mobility and therefore requires dynamic schemes to address the process of routing. Periodic updates of the varying layout of a given wireless mobile ad hoc network may provide a solution. The frequent broadcasting of this routing information to all the participating nodes will incur overhead on rare resources of bandwidth and battery power of network participating nodes. The contribution of this work is the extension of our previous work to decompose a given large scale wireless mobile ad hoc network into various network regions thus limiting the broadcasting of network routing information within a region. Further a novel multi-region routing scheme is introduced for the process of path finding between a sender and receiver. A multi-region routing scheme will route the data transfer from one network region to another network region. © Springer science+Business Media Singapore 2016.
