The GPU has been successfully used for diverse emerging compute-intensive applications, including imaging, computer vision, and more recently, deep learning, to name a few. To offer high performance for such applications, it is provisioned with massive Register Files (RFs) to exploit high Thread-Level Parallelism (TLP). As RFs are designed to store thousands of contexts and provide very high bandwidth for uninterrupted supply of operands to hundreds of compute units for high TLP, they have become one of the most power-hungry components in the GPU. Meanwhile, faced with the end of Dennard scaling, it is more important than ever to innovate the microarchitecture of (power-constrained) GPUs to continuously improve the performance of future compute-intensive *** this work, we propose a GPU microarchitecture, WarpedCompaction, designed to utilize given RFs more efficiently, instead of relying on larger-capacity and/or higher-bandwidth RFs to further improve GPU performance. Specifically, first, we reverse-engineer the latest GPU's RF organization through microbenchmarking. This uncovers that each sub-core within a streaming multiprocessor contains only two dual-ported RF banks, and accesses to these banks are arbitrated solely based on register IDs. We also reveal that, despite the modest configurations, RF banks are largely underutilized, staying inactive for 33.5% of the time. Second, we observe that previously proposed RF optimization techniques, data forwarding and dead register elimination, cannot address this underutilization problem. This is mainly due to the (R1) insufficient RF access requests from a limited number of Operand Collector Units (OCUs) and (R2) inefficient operand distribution by the conventional RF bank arbitration. Third, we present two architectural solutions to tackle the observed inefficiency: (S1) OCU sharing and (S2) skewed arbitrator. For evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithms (EMOAs), an external archive can be utilized for saving good solutions found throughout the evolutionary process. Recent studies showed that a solution set selected from an external archive is usually superior to the final population. That is, the incorporation of an external archive improves the performance of EMOAs. However, the computation time for maintaining an external archive is long, especially when the archive size is large. To solve this issue, a simple archiving strategy is to save all solutions generated in the last several generations. In this paper, we examine this archiving strategy for three representative EMOAs on artificial test problems (Minus-DTLZ and WFG) and real-world problems (RE). Our results show that archiving the last several generations clearly improves the performance of EMOAs without severely increasing the computation time. © 2024 IEEE.

Sharing the hardware platform between diverse information systems to establish full cooperation among different functionalities has attracted substantial ***,broadband multifunctional integrated systems with large operating frequency ranges are challenging due to the bandwidth and computing speed restrictions of electronic ***,we report an analog parallel processor(APP)based on the silicon photonic platform that directly discretizes and parallelizes the broadband signal in the analog *** APP first discretizes the signal with the optical frequency comb and then adopts optical dynamic phase interference to reassign the analog signal into 2N parallel *** photonic analog parallelism,data rate and data volume in each sequence are simultaneously compressed,which mitigates the requirement on each parallel computing ***,the fusion of the outputs from each computing core is equivalent to directly processing broadband *** the proof-of-concept experiment,two-channel analog parallel processing of broadband radar signals and high-speed communication signals is implemented on the single photonic integrated *** bandwidth of broadband radar signal is 6 GHz and the range resolution of 2.69 cm is *** wireless communication rate of 8 Gbit/s is also *** the bandwidth and speed limitations of the single-computing core along with further exploring the multichannel potential of this architecture,we anticipate that the proposed APP will accelerate the development of powerful optoelectronic processors as critical support for applications such as satellite networks and intelligent driving.

In today's digital age, recommendation systems have become an important tool in many sectors, including education. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature related to recommendation systems in an educational context. Using major scientific databases and bibliometric analysis tools, we evaluate publications from the last 5 years to identify research trends, collaboration patterns, and methodological developments. Our results show a significant increase in the number of publications and interest in this field, with a wide variety of research themes ranging from personalized learning to optimization of educational resources. The most dominant analytics techniques include collaborative filtering and content-based filtering, while hybrid and deep learning approaches show growing potential. In addition, we identified geographic and institutional concentrations of research, as well as a set of challenges such as data privacy and the need for adaptation to learner dynamics. This research underscores the importance of recommendation systems in improving tailored educational experiences and supporting data-driven academic decisions. We also offer insights for future research directions, including the need for interdisciplinary research and closer international collaboration. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a vibration monitoring system for electrical appliances. This system is based on RFID sensors and edge processing technologies. For long-term monitoring, two different operation modes referred to as standby and active modes are introduced. The difference between the two modes is radio wave radiation times. The standby mode is useful to reduce energy consumption and temperature increase of an RFID reader, and amount of data uploaded to a network. This mode also detects a beginning of a vibration event caused by the motor of an electrical appliance. The standby mode subsequently triggers the active mode. The active mode accurately monitors the vibration event and keeps the measured data only for the active mode. Experiments for monitoring a refrigerator demonstrate that the proposed modes enable efficient vibration detections. This system can prevent unintended COVID-19 vaccine disposals caused by the problematic operation and management of refrigerators. © 2022 IEEE.

This research addresses the challenge of assessing equipment decision-making effectiveness in environments characterized by uncertainty and multiple influencing factors. We propose a novel approach involving the creation and optimization of a dynamic Bayesian network-based model tailored for equipment decision-making processes. The model facilitates a systematic evaluation of decision-making effectiveness by incorporating various factors, including equipment performance, environmental conditions, and enemy defensive capabilities. A comprehensive assessment system has been developed to simulate the penetration capabilities of different equipment through enemy defenses. Moreover, this study identifies potential errors in the effectiveness evaluation model by analyzing its performance in typical scenarios, pinpointing areas for enhancement. © 2024 IEEE.

Fast-growing IoT devices in healthcare have ushered in a new era of data-driven patient care and treatment. These gadgets capture too much sensitive medical data, a major issue. We need to boost data analysis, security, and privacy. This research uses cutting-edge concepts like federated learning and blockchain technology to improve Healthcare IoT analytics and security. This study examines blockchain and federated learning's numerous integration aspects. It begins with data security, employing blockchain's immutability and decentralization to prevent manipulation. Federation learning was utilized to solve privacy concerns while adhering to tight healthcare data security regulations, providing strong data analysis without releasing raw, patient-specific information. This study examines how federated learning and blockchain technologies enhance healthcare IoT systems' analytics. This connection allows safe, collaborative analysis among healthcare professionals and devices, offering more insights for research, diagnostics, and tailored patient care. This paper presents our Facial Action Units (AUs) detection submission to the fifth Affective Behavior Analysis in-the-wild Competition (ABAW). Our approach consists of three main modules: (i) a pre-trained facial representation encoder which produce a strong facial representation from each input face image in the input sequence;(ii) an AU-specific feature generator that specifically learns a set of AU features from each facial representation;and (iii) a spatio-temporal graph learning module that constructs a spatio-temporal graph representation. This graph representation describes AUs contained in all frames and predicts the occurrence of each AU based on both the modeled spatial information within the corresponding face and the learned temporal dynamics among frames. The experimental results show that our approach outperformed the baseline and the spatio-temporal graph representation learning allows our model to generate the best results among all ablated systems. Our model ranks at the 4th place in the AU recognition track at the 5th ABAW Competition. Our code is publicly available at https://***/wzh125/ABAW-5. © 2023 IEEE.
