Intelligent integration of AI and IoT for advancing ecological health, medical services, and community prosperity

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are developing so fast that they can bring revolutionary changes in ecological sustainability, public health, and community welfare. In contrast, the present waste management system has a set of inefficiencies due to some challenges, such as poor waste stream segregation, limited real-time data analysis, and negligible integration of recent technology. These challenges lead to environmental degradation, public health hazards, and inefficient usage of resources. This research targets these challenges by designing an IWM framework like AI-IoT for smart waste management. The system employs AI models powered by IoT sensors for efficient waste collection, classification, and optimization of recycling schedules. CNN (convolutional neural networks) with transfer learning enabled by Res-Net provides high-accuracy image recognition, which can be used for waste classification. Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) allow multilingual users to interact and communicate properly in any linguistic environment. Data collected from IoT-enabled smart bins is transmitted in real-time to a central control system for dynamic decision-making and follow-up analysis. A pilot exercise to verify the system's effectiveness was implemented in metropolitan settings to show the transformation: landfill dependency was decreased by 30 %, recycling efficiency was greatly increased to 90 %, and thus the cost of waste management was optimized. At the same time, environmental health inequity, causing pathogen-related threats, was reduced by 35 %. The model has an accuracy of 96.8 %. The features of the proposed framework not only provide solutions to the existing inefficiencies but also enhance scalability, cost-effectiveness, and global environmental standardization. Positive and Unlabeled (PU) learning is a learning method which can be applied to various field such as recommendation and big data analysis. A direct method to solve PU learning is transform it into a weighted classification problem. However, previously proposed methods assume a strict condition. In this paper, we first investigate if the condition can be satisfied in real world situations and then propose a normalized weighted method which can relax the difficultly of PU learning. © 2023 ACM.

Big data has emerged very fast, and this has brought both opportunities and problems that are related to the application of deep learning. This paper explores how deep learning can be implemented using big data and in particular the Apache Mahout library. Unlike most other machine learning tools, Mahout can perform distributed computation, especially while using the MapReduce frameworks including Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark. However, this study does not only focus on the explanation of the need for Mahout's integration and employment but also carries out a high-fidelity argument on how deep learning algorithms can be incorporated in the Mahout framework to optimize the manipulation of large and complicated datasets. Mahout-based contributions include the comparative analysis of key deep learning paradigms including distributed processing, parallel processing and transfer learning. This paper also includes examples of the Mahout deep learning integration use and its application in real contexts. This article describes the challenges that currently organizations face in handling big data and indeed, the potential threats these challenges pose to the success of deep learning techniques when used in organizations' big data processing and analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

In permissionless blockchain systems, Proof of Work (PoW) is utilized to address the issues of double-spending and transaction starvation. When an attacker acquires more than 50% of the hash power of the entire network, they gain the ability to engage in double-spending activities, posing a significant threat to the PoW consensus algorithm. This research focuses on the consensus algorithm employed in the Bitcoin system, explaining how it operates and the security challenges it faces. The proposed modification to the PoW algorithm imposes a restriction on miners: they are not allowed to accept consecutive blocks from the same miner into the final local blockchain to prevent the 51% attack problem. This modification supports transactions that require six confirmations. In the event an attacker attempts a 51% attack with a private chain that consists of fewer than 6 blocks, it becomes easier to detect a double-spending attack before accepting the attacker's private chain. The modified algorithm introduces a 'Safe Mode Detection Algorithm' that scrutinizes incoming blocks for adjustments at the top of the local blockchain. If inconsistencies are identified, the consensus algorithm proceeds cautiously by comparing the UTXO dictionaries from the attacker's chain with those from the miner's own blockchain. This meticulous comparison aims to detect instances of double-spending. If such instances are detected, the miner rejects the attacker's chain, establishing a double-spend-free environment and thwarting 51% attacks. © 2013 IEEE.

A Scalable Open-Set ECG Identification system Based on Compressed CNNs

Deep learning (DL) is known for its excellence in feature learning and its ability to deliver high-accuracy results. Its application to ECG biometric recognition has received increasing interest but is also accompanied by several deficiencies. In this study, we focus on applying DL, especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to ECG biometric identification to address these deficiencies. Using prestored user-specific feature vectors, the proposed scheme can exclude unregistered subjects to realize 'open-set' identification. With the help of its scalable structure and 'transfer learning,' new subjects can be enrolled in an existing system without the need for storing the ECGs of those previously enrolled. Finally, schemes based on the quantum evolutionary algorithm (QEA) are presented to prune unnecessary filters in the proposed CNN model. The performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated using the ECGs of 285 subjects from the PTB dataset. The experimental results demonstrate an identification rate of more than 99% in closed-set identification. Although incorporating the proposed method for unregistered subject exclusion degraded the identification performance slightly, the ability of the approach to resist a dictionary attack was evident. Finally, using the QEA-based filter pruning method and its two-stage extension reduced the number of floating-point operations required to complete one identity recognition to 1.20% and 0.22% of the original value without significantly impacting the identification accuracy. © 2012 IEEE.

Cricket is the game that binds Bangladeshis to-gether. The datasets were split into different parts based on the time of the cricket matches to experiment with the results. We have used Random Forest Regression and Linear Regression to experiment with the results. We have worked on different sets of independent variables while working with different datasets but runs and wickets were constant features. The linear Regression technique gave 0.58 of r-squared metric and its MAE: 32.857046003557706, MSE: 1793.4360657965133, RMSE: 42.34897951304746 values indicate that the regression model is making predictions that are reasonably close to the actual ob-served values. However, there is still some room for improvement. The r-squared metric of 0.787 was derived from a relatively brief dataset, MAE: 20.48880467759807, MSE: 690.1167559064677, RMSE: 26.270073389818837 metrics indicate that the regression model is making predictions that are very close to the actual observed values. Random Forest Regression's r-squared metric resulted in 0.807 but the learning curve pointed out an overfit model. Thus, linear regression contained the best result. We have applied the regularisation technique to achieve a better result. The dataset was collected from Github and Kaggle, sizes are (350899, 15) and (4037, 9) respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Tomatoes are essential fruits in numerous nations for their vast demand. It is very important to maintain the freshness of tomatoes. One of the primary challenges in the recent culinary landscape is accurately identifying healthy tomatoes while effectively eliminating damaged or rejected ones. Existing approaches employ various strategies for categorizing tomato fruit, but they often suffer from inaccuracies, slow detection, and suboptimal performance. Thus, motivated by this gap, in this paper, we propose a novel machine learning (ML) framework, ViT-SENet-Tom, which is a hybrid vision transformer (ViT) model with squeeze and excitation (SENet) block network for fast, accurate, and efficient tomato fruit classification. The framework works on three tomato classes, respectively, the ripe, unripe, and reject. In developing the proposed model, we utilized advanced and newly designed layers and functions. This integration created a more complex and sophisticated neural network, significantly enhancing efficiency and contributing to the model’s novelty. Our chosen dataset was small initially, but we implemented augmentation techniques to increase its size. This approach made our system more reliable, efficient, and effective. The hybrid ViT-SENet framework employs encoders and self-attention networks with squeeze and excitation channel functions to allow precise, robust, fast, and efficient tomato classification. In simulation, the framework achieves a training accuracy of 99.87% and validation accuracy of 93.87%, indicating the precise classification of tomatoes. Besides, this work tests accuracy using fivefold cross-validation. The highest accuracy seen at fold-5 is 99.90%. These testing results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed framework in real-deployment scenarios. The implementation has the potential to provide enhanced and more sustainable food security and safety in future. © The Author(s) 2025.

Communication-less Management Strategy for Electric Vehicle Charging in Droop-controlled Islanded Microgrids

Adopting high penetration levels of electric vehicles(EVs) necessitates the implementation of appropriate charging management systems to mitigate their negative impacts on power distribution networks. Currently, most of the proposed EV charging management techniques rely on the availability of high-bandwidth communication links. Such techniques are far from realization due to(1) the lack of utility-grade communication systems in many cases such as secondary(low-voltage) power distribution systems to which EVs are connected, rural areas, remote communities, and islands, and(2) existing fears and concerns about the data privacy of EV users and cyber-physical security. For these cases, appropriate local control schemes are needed to ensure the adequate management of EV charging without violating the grid operation requirements. Accordingly, this paper introduces a new communication-less management strategy for EV charging in droop-controlled islanded microgrids. The proposed strategy is autonomous, as it is based on the measurement of system frequency and local bus voltages. The proposed strategy implements a social charging fairness policy during periods when the microgrid distributed generators(DGs) are in short supply by allocating more system capacity to the EVs with less charging in the past. Furthermore, a novel communication-less EV load shedding scheme is incorporated into the management strategy to provide relief to the microgrid during events of severe undervoltage or underfrequency occurrences due to factors such as high loading or DG outages. Numerical simulations demonstrate the superiority of the proposed strategy over the state-of-the-art controllers in modulating the EV charging demand to counteract microgrid instability.

Web search engines are used for retrieving information but still there exists ambiguity in their retrieval process. It is so because traditional search engines laid emphasis on matching of keywords rather than maintaining semantic relations among terms lack of ability to produce precise results, presence of ambiguous keywords and verifying needs of users are few hindrances that are acting as scenario for web search engines.
